I'm sure this is all about doing the right thing, not excising this cancer for saying what they all believe, but makes him unelectable.

Earlier today, Scott Brown called for Akin to drop out.

I think the GOP has written off this fool, but still has hopes for Romney getting Missouri's electoral votes.

No. They don't.

They just have an appreciation of political expediency. They saw the mocking and outrage at Akin, and they jumped on the bandwagon so as not to appear on the same side as a dim-witted, knuckle-dragging moron who clearly failed high school Health Class.

Well, you've got to grade them on a curve. At least they've developed a rudimentary sense of when other people are offended by something sufficiently stupid (instead of their usual reflex to cry that it's all political correctness run amok). One could even hypothesize that this is a proto-empathic response that may eventually evolve into a true (if basic) sense of empathy in ten or twenty generations.

The GOP was counting on this Senate seat changing hands and now they're desperate to avoid yet another embarrassing loss on Election Day. There's far too much derp in rural Missouri for Obama to win here.

They need to bury this story before someone ask Ryan about the "forcable rape" bill he cosponsored with Akin.

He won in 2008. Nate Silver has the state leaning pink, but that was back when there was a Senate race. If people stay home on election day, Obama has a shot at picking up the state,

It would be nice to see someone from the so-called Liberal MediaTM actually do this.

Akin's only error in the eyes of the Republicans is that he articulated their views on the topic.

They'd prefer to interfere with a woman's personal medical decisions quietly. Like by inserting intrusive anti-abortion legislation into jobs bills, and shutting down Planned Parenthood with lies.

Do you have the HR number for that? I did a Thomas LOC search for bills that both Akin and Ryan co-sponsored but don't have time to narrow it down further than that and there were a lot of potentials in those results.

They are just responding to possible negative consequences. It's not evidence of sophisticated moral behavior.

It doesn't demonstrate that they've moved beyond pre-conventional moral reasoning, only demonstrating a level 2 understanding per Kohlberg's scale.

Forcing Akin to drop out is like cutting the head off a Hydra. Seven more will grow back in its place. Or in this case, it doesn't actually disavow what he said, only gives the appearance that he shouldn't have said it publicly.

Obviously what you people don't get is the enormity of the fake rape problem. Women should be forced to show an official ID before being raped to make it "legitimate".

You can only get an abortion if your rapist has been found guilty by a jury of his peers.

This. He also may want to employ a food taster.

I would be shocked if the GOP doesn't convince him to drop out by the deadline. He may wake up with the head of Mitt Romney's ballerina horsey in his bed. Although admittedly that wouldn't make any sense.

How much do you want to bet the Obama campaign is brainstorming ways to have the Romney/Ryan ticket limp into their convention on the defensive about rape.  It's only two weeks away, lets see if they can keep this in the news.

They don't need any additional ammunition. They have all they narratives they need already, they just need to hammer away at them.

I recognize that this is a difficult time for him, but over the next twenty-four hours, Congressman Akin should carefully consider what is best for him, his family, the Republican Party

Nice family ya got there...

Of course that's Todd Akin's duty. Heaven forbid if Mrs. Akin or any of the homeschooled Akinettes do any of their own consideration of what is best for themselves.

But the guy sitting in for Limbaugh today has dropped that line at least twice in the last hour.

Well you libtards need to understand that zero percent of all men who are raped get pregnant, forcibly or not! Yeah, didn't think of that? Once again, the feminazi agenda glosses over the real victims: Straight dudes.

Oh please. Rafalca was foaled in 1997, that's far too old for the fantasy sex cruise.

/Also, those cruise tickets are too damn expensive.
