A couple years ago as I was going to see a movie with the girl, we happened upon a group of about 100 completely naked bikeriders in Manhattan.

All shapes and sizes, all naked as the day they popped into the world.

It made my day.

2012-08-20 03:14:24 PM
So it's a gay-pride parade on bikes?

2012-08-20 03:16:07 PM
People who want to ride nekkid are the very people no one wants to see nekkid.

2012-08-20 03:16:23 PM
Chaffing?

Naked Philadelphians on bikes? I'll pass.

Much like nude beaches the people you don't want to see naked are the one's that show up....

2012-08-20 03:18:51 PM
Do the bikes have seats?

2012-08-20 03:21:19 PM
This is up there with mudrunning, nautical tattoos and gentrifying neighborhoods as something that white people do to bring danger into their life. Like working and living in cubicles have crushed the hunter/gatherer out of them so they have to make up all kinds of lame, safe things to convince themselves they are human.

Biking naked for under a mile might be alright, otherwise, you will have a really sore ass.

How does "naked bike ride" equal "riding around in your underwear"?

AverageAmericanGuy: "So it's a gay-pride parade on bikes?"

Thumbing through the slideshow I thought it looked kinda like "Halloween with bikes".

Then again, Halloween *is* kinda like a pride event for heterosexuals...
So I guess we agree.

There was not a lot of naked in those pics.

I am disappointed. If you are not going to go all out, stay home.

you've got some valid points and while it's a good observation it's also so very sad. in slowly transforming ourselves into members of polite society we have abandoned a huge amount of the primal being that we were. we are living unnatural forced lives. who gets to enjoy their primal urges? boxers, the police and the military. the rest of us are reduced to maybe having sex once in a while, making a twisted face and a few grunts. maybe we should have camps were people can go and live like cavemen for a few weeks, i don't know. i just think it's sad that we are hollow shells of what we once were, because as you pointed out, it has left people feeling empty or dead inside.

All of your negativity is overcompensation for being envious of anyone who's brave enough to go out in public (nearly) naked.

/also envious & terrified

Having participated in WNBR in the past there are specific reasons it is done naked and not naked at the same time. Naked is symbolizing the fact that cyclists are somewhat invisible on most public roads, so this draws attention to us, but on a deeper level riding on the same street as vehicles we may as well be naked when it comes to vehicle bicycle accidents. So combination of drawing attention to the vulnerability of cyclists co-existing with cars in the current infrastructure. The other part of not being naked is a direct result of nanny state laws, where it originated in Europe you could ride naked and not fear being a convicted sex offender. A lot of us cities even being naked in public is an instant ticket to the sex offender registry.

Why is this news? If you GIS "naked bike rider", there's a lot of people doing this.

/subby sniffin the seats again I guess.

Glistening bicycle seats.

despite the fact that the bike ride is a protest against oil and therefore protected free speech, Tulsa's Police Department has said they will arrest anyone who actually rides naked. They'll only be able to throw you in jail for a day because they won't be able to charge you with anything, but darnit they'll do it.

Fark the police.

Message? We don't need no stinking message. It's just stupid ass fun, like the no pants subway ride, which I've done 3 years in a row and its been a blast. Ok, sure you could just as eadily call it the AW subway ride and be just as accurate but who cares? It's all in good fun...

Did someone actually go on record saying that? The wrongful arrest lawsuits should be most entertaining.
