We all know why it took so long -- they had to wait for the results of the polling.

How do you like that, people don't like rape. My informal poll of said 50% of participants enjoyed it, and if you've never been involved how would you really know.

/Not sure if I should clearly indicate that this is sarcasm

We can still like that, right?

"Well, we didn't have time to make the calls, but I rented 'The Accused' and in that a clear majority of working-class white men approved, so, I think our messaging going forward should reflect those results."

FFS, folks, you are acting like Republicans, focusing on idiocy

He responded the same damn day as the interview aired. Hell, it was Sunday, he probably could have wait until Monday morning.

So, Mitt Romney wants to kill innocent babies.
Disgusting.

"He didn't disagree fast enough" is what Republicans usually say about Obama. This is not worth it.

The scary thing is that this extremist is going to be reelected in part because of this.

2012-08-20 08:51:46 AM
Let's get back to what he said not whether it took 24h or 48h for someone to officially disagree with him.

2012-08-20 08:54:45 AM
Both Akin and Ryan co-sponsored a 2011 bill in Congress that would refine the federal abortion coverage ban exemption for rape to cover only "forcible rape."

This "forcible rape" thing is what gets me. Nice subtle implication that some woman are sluts and inviting it. In legislative language no less.

"Sorry, you have to carry that rapist's baby. You were asking for it."

PC LOAD LETTER: "He didn't disagree fast enough" is what Republicans usually say about Obama. This is not worth it.

Yeah, he actually responded pretty promptly. That doesn't seem worth getting upset...

Both Akin and Ryan co-sponsored a 2011 bill in Congress that would refine the federal abortion coverage ban exemption for rape to cover only "forcible rape." That language was dropped under pressure from women's advocacy groups and Democrats.

Okay, there's the problem, right there.

Shouldn't we focus on whether or not the candidate is an idiot? I mean, I'm pretty sure if I lived in Missouri, I'd like to know just how much my candidate understands about basic scientific facts.

Thats not what I am talking about.

You and I both know that Romney is an idiot. That much is non-debatable. I was refering to the criticism that many are making against Romney for not acting fast enough to issue the statement. It was a Sunday when the interviewed aired, and he addressed it the day it did air.

2012-08-20 09:03:09 AM
It only took him a few days after the poll results to run a few thousand simulations and predict which stance would gain him the most votes and cost him the fewest.

2012-08-20 09:05:17 AM
If, like Ryan, you believe in fetal personhood, the logical conclusion is there is absolutely no instance in which abortion is acceptable. You couldn't perform a first trimester abortion for a girl that had been raped by her father any more than you could bash in the skull of a two-year old.

Sure, late Sunday night. It did actually take them a really long time in the age of instant communication to respond to something that should've been a no-brainer in the afternoon.

If only there was some sort of outfit women could wear in public to remain modest and prevent them from being victims of rape.

It is a logically consistent position. But it would also imply that a pregnant women smoking and drinking should be treated the same as a mother giving cigarettes and beer to a toddler.

2012-08-20 09:18:24 AM
So Romney and Ryan don't believe that abortion should be illegal in cases of rape. Got it.

Where are they on the whole 'if you were raped and got pregnant you were actually asking for it' issue. Because that amount of stupidity and insensitivity is what I found most offensive.

2012-08-20 09:21:29 AM
Actually, Ryan has stated he doesn't think abortion should be legal for rape victims.

It's like we're back in the medieval times, when it was believed women had the power to make themselves pregnant.

No, he should have responded BEFORE the comment was made.

Seriously though, in this day-and-age (get off my lawn) people expect instant reaction to everything. People expect everyone to know everything at all times.

To be fair... Mitt probably has to have daily briefings to go over stupid stuff people in his party have said. these meetings may even include stuff that didn't even catch on in the news cycle. It may not be as easy, as some here think, to decide which comments he has distance himself from on a day to day basis.

Who gives a fark what Romney says anymore. He's a shady, clueless idiot but there isn't anything that could possibly come out that would change anyone's vote at this point.

Step 1: Your campaign tells you that one of the 33 or 34 candidates from your party running for a Senate seat said that women can't get pregnant from being raped.
Step 2: You decide whether or not this statement from this person is worth spending the five minutes to come up with a response.
Step 3: You issue a one sentence statement that you don't agree with him, that he's a moron, and that obviously women can get pregnant from rape.

If you can't run a campaign well enough to get step 1 done, then you don't have the administrative skills necessary to run a country.
If your decision process can't take you all the way to step 3, then you're too farking dumb to be entrusted with running a country.

The only thing that would have made this story better is if he had used the phrase "rape rape" instead of "legitimate rape".

And if you are a Jew or Muslim and believe that pork is unclean then you have the right to ban Christians from eating bacon.

Being logically consistent isn't the same thing as being correct.

such a bizarre statement to begin with

2012-08-20 10:02:42 AM
"A Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape."

This is proof that Bible Pounders do not think/care if a fertilized egg is in fact a person and they do not believe it is murder. It is about shamming promiscuous women out of fear that if they loose control over women then their wives will leave them. At least some are responsible enough to conclude that a rape victim has already been shammed even though they did nothing wrong.....so the appropriate punishment is to get raped again by a wand before you are allowed to have an abortion.

I'm from Missouri.

SHOW ME the rape was "forcible" or I'll shoot up your abortion factory!

The problem is, Romney doesn't actually disagree with him. Well Romney might, but his campaign doesn't. The sluttiness of women being to blame for most rapes is a central tenant of the Republican platform

We're talking about Romney here. He can't decide on a tie for the day without two studies, a panel and three national polls. :P

I love that Ryan is one of the "more intelligent" members of the GOP in Congress and he is right there supporting the "forcible rape" bill. Really reaching with that one.

If it were a legitimate rape, then the anti-rape defenses God intelligently designed would cause the woman's body to miscarry.

Since the woman became pregnant, that right there is proof that she was asking for it, and should be treated as the slut she is, and not a victim.

That unborn baby should be defended to the fullest extent of the law. It is innocent, unlike the slutty meatbag that carries it.

2012-08-20 10:06:34 AM
The proper way to handle this is:

Hold a press conference, issue a brief statement that you feel Akin's belief has no grounding in reality. Remove a baseball bat from behind the podium and excuse yourself. Then be heard off camera yelling "Akin come over here so I can beat the stupid out of you."

I guess Akin was worried the female vote might have forgotten Limbaugh and the slut issues, so he wanted to make sure they got a reminder to avoid voting Republican.

Diogenes: "Sorry, you have to carry that rapist's baby. You were asking for it."

ALL REPUBLICANS BELIEVE THIS

Ok, as a side note, why does the electoral map keep showing more and more red? I remember Romney below 200 electoral votes and now he's at 220. Does he really have a shot at winning this?
