And we still can't get them to relax the freaking ethanol in gas rules, how stupid is that?

Also you people who are going to say Hershey's chocolate sucks, have never tasted good chocolate until you've had my exclusive heirloom, organic, shade grown, fair trade, craft made, hand conched, smoked, steam melted, slow tempered chocolate.

Your failure of sarcastic hipsterism aside, Hersey's does in fact suck.

I would also certainly volunteer to taste-test the steaks that result from such an endeavour.

This isn't all that shocking. Farmers have done this for decades when feed was scarce or costly.

why not just feed them, oh, I don't know, grass? how the hell can you call this dude a rancher?

Finally. Let's give all of it to the livestock. It's not fit for human consumption.

This is how major food manufacturers have gotten rid of edible waste forever.

I was always told it was sold to pig farmers, but that may have been a generalization.

Just like Texas has made it a law for all pregnant women wishing to have an abortion to have an ultrasound and listen to the beating heart, they should also make it a law to witness a cow's trip from the ranch through the slaughterhouse if you want to eat beef.

Not sure if serious, but cows have to eat a ton of grass, and he probably doesn't have enough. Also, it's during a drought.

There reason corn prices are so high is because there isn't much of it. So they need help still. Although, I hope they aren't paying them not to grow, because that would be silly.

Good idea. Then we can get really fresh beef while it's still warm.

I got a dozen ears of NJ sweet corn yesterday for $4.50. I don't think that's too bad.

We buy our feed by the ton from United Livestock Commodities for our beef cattle and horses. The price jumped by 15% in one month and I am worried how bad the next delivery will jump. So far, I have not recieved any of the chocolate feed but my last load was different because the substituted peanut shells for the soybean hulls. He swears that the protein content is still at 14% but I have to wondered since I have never heard of using peanut shells.

I would be okay feeding the chocolate to the cows but concerned with the horses because of a foundering issue with my older horse. All I know is, that between corn and hay shortages, I am about ready to sell out and start fresh with the cows - I am sick of worrying how we will feed them this winter due to the drought.

You could just have them watch this:

Look at all the cows in the slaughterhouse yard! You've got to hit them in the head -- Hit them real hard...

i know all about it, mostly since I am fortunate enough to still work the family ranch.

a 50 sack of corn is going for ~$14.50. a bale of grass hay is going for around ~$10.50.

calorie-wise the grass is far lower, but f-n candy? really? his margins must so low that if he doesn't pack on every ounce of blubber on those cattle he can't afford the payment on the GMC.

we won't go into how the antibiotics he's pumping into those cattle are going to start the next Creeping Death. those are going to be some sick ass animals.

We were feeding hay in early July due to the drought- the grass was literally fried...

I'm heading to the meat locker today to pick up my half steer. 2 inch porterhouse steaks, beef bacon and the like. So yeah, I've been thru a slaughterhouse. I know where my food comes from.

I may, if there are no other options, *lower* myself between 60% and 70%, BUT only in a crisis..and yes, 80%+ you may as well be licking chocolate starfish candies, but hey, we're talking about chocolate here, so again, if I have to lower myself to that, then I'll do so.

Usually cows produce chocolate milk. I'd rather not harvest the milk chocolate.
