Twice of the legal limit of zero BAC is still zero.

That's why a sober person driving without a license gets charged with drunk driving.

Yes this father is an ass.
No, the legal limit really doesn't say much.

2012-08-19 08:06:33 PM
technically he's infinite times over the legal limit since one doesnt exist for that age since they're not supposed to be driving at all.

I was on that interstate once....you could go MILES before seeing ANYONE.

there are some areas that are so rural the locals don't often see a police cruiser. i wonder if this is the case in this instance. not saying that would excuse the behavior. just saying.

The reason everyone is bad at driving drunk, is the no one learns to drive drunk. Summer School, we should have listened.

Massively Multiplayer Addict: technically he's infinite times over the legal limit since one doesnt exist for that age since they're not supposed to be driving at all.

The article doesn't state that he didn't have a license. In South Dakota, the minimum age do have a driver's license is 14. Since he was not charged with operating a vehicle without a license, I'm going to assume he has one.

Also, there is a defined level of DUI for those under 21 as well. For those over 21, the DUI threshold is 0.08%. For those under 21, the limit is 0.02%. Technically, the kid was 8 times over the legal limit.

(To answer the question before it is asked, if you are under the age of 21 and driving with a BAC between 0 and 0.02%, you cannot be charged with a DUI, but you can be charged with underage drinking.)

"Police caught the vehicle after receiving reports the boy was driving.".
He's 14. That's really not probably cause to pull over a car.

Legal to drive at 14 in South Dakota

BTW, I could have got my license at 14 in Kansas, but waited a whole year until I was 15.

That's Ricky from Trailer Park Boys, a hilarious Canadian mocumentary from a few years ago.

Ricky thinks letting his pre-teen daughter drive the car (only around the park, of course!) makes him a good parent. Also thinks that staying up late getting hammered makes him a good dad as long as he gets up to do something with her while still extremely hung over and burnt out.  Because dedication.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: WTF is the legal limit for a 14 year old to begin with?

0.02

32-23-21. It is a Class 2 misdemeanor for any person under the age of twenty-one years to drive, operate, or be in actual physical control of any vehicle: (1) If there is physical evidence of 0.02 percent or more by weight of alcohol in the person's blood as shown by chemical analysis of the person's breath, blood, or other bodily substance

(And, yes, a 14yo can drink alcohol in SD if "it is done in the immediate presence of a parent or guardian or spouse, who is at least twenty-one years of age, while not on the premises of an establishment licensed for the retail sale of alcoholic beverages.)

So he had more than *8* times the legal limit, not 2. The 0.08 limit is for drivers 21+.

Yup. I live in South Dakota and see kids driving all the time that make me think "holy shiat that's a little kid driving".

It is. It really is.

There's a "pilot" movie, as well as a couple of theatrical releases. Start with season one and ignore the pilot -- it's interesting to check out later, but the characters are very different and it's not quite the finished product.

The theater releases follow the series, and are worth checking out after completing the TV show if you enjoyed it.

^ This. I waited until the series was over and all the hype died down and I laughed my ass off. Many a boring and lonely late night was spent 'in the park'.

I loved that show. I grew up in a trailer park. I could recognize every single one of those characters as my friends and neighbors when I was young. It's funny and sometimes painfully true to real life. Great stuff.
