I tuned out halfway through last season, but caught up recently.

While the occupation idea is interesting... I'm going to be sad if they entirely lose the doppelganger aspect of the show.

Although that IS an accurate description of the end of Season 4, when the show really flew the porcupine. Aside from "Letters of Transit," it was a bit rubbish. Nowhere near as good as the first two and a half seasons.

consider this: Fringe would be better with a few more universes thrown in, the plot is just way too simplistic.

Maybe. My husband LOVES dark haired Olivia, a (male) gay friend of ours loves blonde haired Olivia and says he would be straight for her, so maybe we need a red haired Olivia for the pansexuals? A bald Olivia for the Observers?

I'm kind of hoping that the alternate universe is somehow safe from the Observer incursion, and a big arc in the next season is trying to re-establish contact with them in order to use the advanced tech from over there and the skills of the alternate Fringe team to help in the fight against the observers.

Did I just get warped into an alternate universe? There is no dark-haired Olivia. Only original Olivia with blonde hair, and red-haired Fauxlivia.

My guess is we'll only see the parallel universe guys one episode, if we are lucky. I'm not sure how this new plotline will work out but I hope they don't repeat the mistake of Season 4 and keep the team apart much of the season. When your actors have chemistry and you enjoy seeing them together, it's frustrating when the writers do their best to artificially keep them away from each other.
