One metal thread per week and...it's Motorhead.

Kill me once, shame on me. Kill me twice... well, I won't get killed again!

Your performance may suck if you need to have strippers roasting marshmallows standing beside you.

Since when do they have a extra singer?

Huge Motörhead fan...and that was not one of their better moments.

I try not to sound like an old fart (I'm still on the happy side of thirty), but, damn, a lot of the SHMCs have really sucked ass as of late. Who in the hell is picking these things?

/good metal seemed to have ended in 2000

Record executives based on a formula.

I've seen Motorhead three times now and I've yet to see them put on a good show. They always have this "couldn't care less" appearance on stage and just seem to be going through the motions.

/Always say "that was the last time"
//Still go back
///Glutton for punishment
////Quadra slashies!

Motorhead are biker punk rock that started to believe the metal labels they were given in the music press.

a mix of old and new things, that I humbly submit for your listening displeasure -

Dopelord - Lucifer's son (you can probably guess the genre, but it's great)

Opera IX - Act I: The First Seal (gothic/black; this one surprised me - I thought they were just another lame goth band, but this is really excellent)

Sathanas - Ever Falling Darkness (black/death)

Molested - Following the Growls (death)

Ysengrin - To Endotaton (preview; hermetic dark metal - whatever the hell that is, but it sounds cool)

Drawn and Quartered - Lustmorder (death; guitars at the end of the song are fantastic)

Anhedonist - Estrangement (death/funeral doom)

Funebrarum - Delusions in the Sheltered Womb

F*ck Off - No return (thrash)

Well, for one they have to many vowels in their name. Most SHMHC bands have at least sixteen letters and less than two vowels.

Second, you can understand the lyrics. Lemmy isn't a great singer, but he's better than a lot of the metal singers out there now.

/Overkill is still kicking ass

I'm sad that I've been missing out all these years, though I wasn't too impressed by what I heard of Cadaveria's new album from this year. Oh well, at least I can track down the old stuff.

Yeah. Cadaveria is not very good.

I was actually just checking these guys out today because I saw a flyer that they are playing in my neighborhood next weekend. I might go see them.

The best thing about metal flyers is that you always know it's a metal show even before you figure out what bands are playing.

/lots of black/thrash/doom/death metal shows in Seattle lately. Or maybe I'm just paying more attention these days.

I'm a bit behind and just found out about Agalloch's one song EP Faustian Echoes. I'll listen to it later tonight when I have a free 21 minutes.

Cool - enjoy the show if you go!

The artwork is one of my favorite things about metal - sometimes it's even better than the music (though I often hope I'll love the albums with killer art, otherwise it's harder to justify buying them).

A few bands I have been listening to this week:

Deathmøle
Alunah
Temple

Three-Headed Dog: Deathmøle

Hell yes. I listened to that the other day at work and it is really freakin' good. Also, I really enjoy Jeph's webcomic, Questionable Content.

Been getting into Russian Circles and Isis lately. And of course, my fall back to Kylesa.

New Deathmole

This is the one I was referring to. Most of the stuff Jeph has done has been great, though.

Cool, heavy instrumentals / "post," I'm down for that.

[listens to whole album]

Tech death isn't really my thing (granted, this isn't the most technical either--which may be a virtue in this case), but I enjoyed the listen-through. Dunno if I'll listen again, but my best to the guy, he's talented. Could have a movie score or two in his future.

Well they started out that way, which is how I choose remember em. I was excited by the headline - I thought there'd be a link to this, the greatest metal video of all time!

Just saw Motörhead for the 4th time at Mayhem with Anthrax and Slayer...all put on GREAT shows. Slipknot was the headliner and watching them was a joke...the two guys on stage holding 'bones' and beating on 'drums' every now and then was the stupidest thing I've seen at a concert...and I've seen King Diamond in concert for reference.

I think Lemmy is slowing down or the pace of the Mayhem fest is killing them--they were lethargic and weren't into it that much. Would go see them anytime tho.

And on that note, there is NO good metal out there. GOOD metal has double-bass, killer guitars, and VOCALS...not some moron growling into the mic and singing old rehashed Ronnie James Dio lyrics.

Awesome, I'll have to check this out. You might want to check out the new Skagos. Link
Other stuff:
Ruins of Beverast: Link (it's like he walks into another world with a tape recorder)
Panopticon: Link (my best album of 2012 so far. One man band that is really the first to pull off an American version of the folk/black metal combination)
One of the few time Malefic played on stage: Link
Shameless self promotion: Link

Vestal Claret - Missing Girl / Call to Satan

Atlantean Kodex - Temple of Katholic Magick

Hammers of Misfortune - The Locust Years

Primordial - Children of the Harvest

What you're looking for is out there, even if it's in the minority these days.

I went to a Slayer show ten years ago and Slipknot was headlining. The idea bugged me but at the end of the day it was nice because I got to leave the venue early as all the juggalo looking Slipknot retards were piling in. I didn't have to stand though an entire set of that lame crap.

Jack Daniels and cigarettes will do that to you.

There is a scene in the Lemmy movie where someone was discussing having a drink with him, Lemmy pulls out a 5th of Jack, hands it to the guy, proceeds to pull out two more for himself and the other guy there.

A 5th doesnt go as far as you might think. If my chemistry is right (and any true drunk will tell you that it matters), I can drink a 5th.

/not a liter, though.

PC LOAD LETTER: Motorhead are biker punk rock that started to believe the metal labels they were given in the music press.

Um, no:

Metal Insider: I remember hearing in many of your past interviews how yo''ve always considered Motörhead to be more of a rock n' roll band than metal, even though the band has obviously been a huge early influence on heavy metal. Do you still have a hard time hearing Motörhead called "metal" or have you accepted that title?

Lemmy: Well, I don't accept it because it isn't true. I mean, we do a lot of things that a metal band could never do. I mean, like that acoustic version of "Ace Of Spades," I'd like to see Dave try and do that. (laughs)
