Honestly! You drive like a woman!

This girl is the New York Jets of NASCAR. Seems to have all the tools, the fan support, etc but goofy shiat just keeps her from getting it done.

Really? A sneaker? Just seems... strange.

The sneaker likely just sped up the failure of the suspension component that broke. She still managed to lead 10+ laps with the rear-end sliding everywhere under the car. That takes talent.

So she was knocked out of contention thanks to some drunken shoeless imbecile? That sucks.

I agree, that was one talented shoe.

Seriously, you hope they found that guy and booted him from the track. Bad enough when you throw shiat onto the field at a football game. You do it on a racetrack, you could get someone killed.

I thought women and shoes were a natural mix.

Not really shoeless. Whoever it was still has the other shoe.

I love that it looked like it was a high-top sneaker at that.

Listen, this is Fark. We will not acknowledge that she has talent here. She's just there because of her gender and looks and can't perform despite having good equipment, unlike a master driver like Dale Jr. who went 4 years between wins during the same time his teammate was winning the title every year.

I'm a big fan (largely because of the hate she generates) but I have to admit that it could, maybe, just possibly be that she just isn't all that good

I'm a fan as well (and for the same reason as you, mostly) but exactly how long is this girl gonna get before she starts winning or even PLACING before she gets drummed out of the biz?
I suspect that if she had gonads and a goatee, she'd be driving dirt track somewhere in South Dakota.

As a Boston Bruins fan, I am not surprised at the conduct of that he fan throwing a shoe. At least those in Boston use shoes to get up close and personal with fans in the stadium, not vice-versa. Montreal is full of godless, francophone, hairy, neanderthals.

That said, LOL. At least no woodchucks were harmed.

Is she a driver who models or a model who drives?
A GIS is unclear on this question.

/If her rear end broke loose and was sliding all over the place, I bet I could keep it under control

2012-08-19 04:40:32 PM

darch: Seems to have all the tools

Can you explain what this means?

I mean, she has a CAR. That's one of the tools it takes to be a decent professional driver.

SharkTrager: She's just there because of her gender and looks and can't perform despite having good equipment, unlike a master driver like Dale Jr. who went 4 years between wins during the same time his teammate was winning the title every year.

Oh. Yeah. This line... because in order to prove that Danica is a good driver, people pull DALE EARNHARDT JUNIOR'S name out of the woodwork. Oh, you!

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the male version of Danica Patrick: famous and popular for something OTHER than driving talent.

And that's insulting to Dale, who has been racing at the top for many years but actually has MANY wins under his belt (oddly enough, mostly with inferior equipment back in the day), unlike Dan1ca who rode her sports version of Hendrick for years with a whopping single victory, in an era where her sport had probably 1/10th of the depth that it had twenty years ago and about half as much driving talent as the 2nd-rate NASCAR series in which Danica is currently competing.

Of course, another way to direct the argument is that Hendrick is playing the game really well... use all of the money Earnhardt brings in to buy the methods that allow Jimmie Johnson to cheat year in and year out without being punished for it.

2012-08-19 04:49:12 PM
Anyway, I think it's insulting to the women of NHRA, some of whom (the Force girls) have made it in the sport because of family ties (but those girls are still, you know, winning events), but a gal like Shirley Muldowney was at the top of the heap for many years. She didn't get pity points for not having a penis, she just kicked their asses and didn't whine and cry about the meanies that tried to knock her out of the race.

Know how I know you don't know anything about track driving?

Racing- especially THIS kind of racing- takes a great deal of talent, actually. Timing, shifting, situational awareness are but a few of the talents needed to navigate a course like this with a dozen or more other similarly-equipped vehicles all trying to get to the same place you are.

Now why this woman can't seem to catch a break is beyond me. Like I said in my Weeners, she, like the Jets, seems to be snakebitten. Even when she is performing well, something (like a FARKING SNEAKER) ruins her day.

However, this year, the Jets have a Tebow that is going to ruin their days.

2012-08-19 04:52:58 PM
And I also have to apologize for insulting NASCAR's second series so much... IndyCar is more like the Truck Series. Nationwide usually has more than five great drivers in any given race.

darch: Know how I know you don't know anything about track driving?

You know how I know you're understanding of the word "relative" is limited to family relations?

/that's not a joke about inbreeding, by the way

darch: Like I said in my Weeners, she, like the Jets, seems to be snakebitten. Even when she is performing well, something (like a FARKING SNEAKER) ruins her day.

I think she's just like the Jets, just not for the reasons you state.

What other horrible things have happened to her when she was competing late in a race? I know she had gas issues once or twice when she was actually competing to win back in the day, but that happens to everyone. Hell, JJ has had engines blow that cost him races (today), but he still wins OTHER races.
And, do these things happen to her MORE OFTEN, or are you more prone to remember them BECAUSE they happen to her?

We need a stats person in here to crunch the numbers.

/also... how have the Jets been "snake bitten"?
//hell, they are annual playoff overachievers considering their QB's talents, or lack thereof
///seems that the Giants have more snakebites in recent years, yet they seem to be getting over it rather well

2012-08-19 05:02:49 PM
I'm amazed a yellow flag wasn't thrown before she hit it. Heck, in some of the Sprint Car races, imaginary items warranted a yellow flag.

I don't buy that the Giants (my team, btw) have more raw talent at the majority of positions than the Jets. I think it has something to do with a Santorum-y mix of front office mismanagement and a certain intangible something that divides them.

Back to Danica...

You could lead points for 35 weeks & not be leading at the End of Race 35. Leading the points doesn't matter. WINNING the championship matters.

puffy999: I know she had gas issues once or twice when she was actually competing to win back in the day, but that happens to everyone.

Wasn't her win a gas thing, also?

Regarding the way she is covered, the best comparison I can come up with is Tiger Woods (without the championship pedigree). I remember a golf tourney a few years back and Tiger was 7 shots out on the final day and he got a ton more coverage than the leaders that day. The announcers were coming up with crazy scenarios like: If Tiger holes this from 180 out for an Eagle, birdies the next three and all the leaders hit out of bounds he's right back in it!

From what I understand a lot of the other drivers don't like her, and you can't blame them. If you come in fifth, have a few wins under your belt over the course of you career you might not even get mentioned on SportsCenter. She could come in 25th and get more air time.

She may have talent and skill, but money is what puts her on the track. She's attractive and the sports media pay a ton of attention to her. The only thing her sponsors care about are eyeballs on that car and sports media talking about her.

If she were Hatchetface McGee, she probably wouldn't be there, or she'd be lumped in with the rest of the also-rans that have to switch sponsors and teams every few years.

Thing is that Danica is a decent driver. She does seem to have bad mechanical luck in anything she drives however (or that could be from roughly handling it too I suppose...).

She did pretty well in IRL, not stellar, and not a repeat champion but she did place 3rd in the Indy 500 once and that's a pretty amazing feat.

I wish she'd cut back on the 'image' advertising so much and just focus on racing, she'd be a lot better off.

I'm sure the person focusing on her image is some publicist. so, she's trying to make some money in advertising, which in turn may bring up the sponsorships she gets for her team. it's part of the business. a business paid for by advertising. sometimes people have to play the game in order to play the game.

I was very disappointed when that happened, because Jacques Villeneuve was right behind her and I was having fun envisioning what his radio must have sounded like. I had him sounding a combination of Pepe le Pew and Black Jacques Shellaque.

"Oh ho ho ho, bonjour, ma petite fleur! It is I, Jacques! Do not run away, ma bumper, it is hard for you, let me show you!" *crunch*
