It's a nice gesture. Wouldn't there be a largish tax bill for such a sizable gift, though?

Dammit Kid Rock stop being so likable, down to earth and appreciative of your fame and fortune. You are ruining everything!

You just include a cash gift large enough to pay the tax bill, plus the tax on the cash gift.

But don't forget that since the tax on the cash gift is also a gift, you have to include another cash gift equal to the tax on the tax on the original cash gift, which is also taxable.

I like how he is now. Sure his early stuff sucked (Only one rap he did I thought good because it's funny), but he is turning out to be a better singer than rapper.

Hey, I rail against the income tax regularly. Most people can't fill out a one page employment application without screwing up, much less figure out their taxes. I would love nothing more than to remove every tax except sales tax (including taxing paid-for services) and import duties on products and services from countries with minimum wages lower than the US. Eliminate all property taxes, estate taxes which fail at preventing intergenerational wealth transferrance (the ideological reason for their existence) and income taxes. For people on government assistance, make certain categories of products and services untaxed (why tax people when they are on government assistance? makes the assistance less efficient, imo).

The problem isn't the government, it is that we have the best policies money can buy. Tax Masters, HR Block and the rest of the tax assistance industry would have to find something else to do. That those groups even exist in the first place shows how screwed up the system is. We shouldn't need an entire industry built around charging individuals to file forms with the government.

People value their own time enough that they pay experts to do work for them, Ric Romero concludes in his investigative report at 11.

If the general population would quit watching reality tv,they would notice that they could file for free.

Pretty cool, but this only helps one guy. Might have been better to put up some kind of bunk-house where you can show your discharge papers and they'll let you sleep there. Like a barracks for ex-soldiers.

So if I blindly follow the Government's instructions to go kill brown people and get hurt in the process, some celebrity will buy me a house and provide for my offspring.

You mean all those years of college, thousands of hours working behind a computer, and the insane taxes I've paid won't get me a free house too?

I forget it's more profitable to be brave and dumb in this country than to get an education and work hard your whole life.

1) Fark you for implying that if you're in the military, you're stupid.
2) Whine some more, snowflake. A lot of former miltary are in a lot worse shape than you.
3) You work hard to make a future for yourself. A soldier works harder and puts his life on the line for the benefit of his country. Which one of you deserves the freebies?

RTFA - the builder is donating the home. Rock was merely the presenter, as he's more high-profile than a middle-aged home builder and will draw more attention to the cause. Though Rock *did* take time out from rocking his S.E. Michigan hoes to meet the vet and his wife, so that's something.

I didn't specify 'this soldier', and even if I did, I don't know his entire service record. Do you? Regardless, what the military does is SUPPOSED to benefit the country.

I hope they threw in a couple years of free maintenance on that Pulte home becuase that soldier is gonna spend a fortune trying to fix the shoddy workmanship once the builders warranty runs out. I almost feel sorry for the guy. Should have renovated an older home and given that to his family

Wishful thinking. I lost a my whole family to mental disorders brought on by Vietnam, and the profiteering of that war. Fark the military industrial complex and anyone who hasn't figured out that every armed conflict in this country has been manufactured for profit. Wars make money for the rich, using the lives of the needy and deluded as assets to be liquidated as needed. They don't free anyone.

He was in Afghanistan, he wasn't drafted, he made his choice. Boo-hoo.

Eh I wasn't looking for self fulfillment, I just wanted to see if I perform a successful troll. It seemed to work, my other two attempts went un-noticed so I'm at least satisfied with that.

I do admit, the opening was a bit weak and has been repeated many times before on fark. Then again, sticking with the classics seems to work best.

Maybe it didn't. But he volunteered to fight and die for his country. That is laudable, even if the results weren't.

The two highest achievements of the human mind are the twin concepts of "loyalty" and "duty." Whenever these twin concepts fall into disrepute--get out of there fast. You may possibly save yourself, but it is too late to save that society. It is doomed. - Lazarus Long
