strutin: dudemanbro: Something tells me he wasn't the primary saviour. Was he the one wearing the Nazi uniform a few years ago?

No, that was his younger, more partying brother..

this one is the real bees knees..just a regular bloke doing his job..just like all the other hero first responders..

/not trolling.

actually harry's really settled down for the most part. he very specifically requested to deploy with his army unit to afghanistan a few years back, a posting that was ruined by a press leak. from what i've heard, the guys in his platoon thought he was a pretty damn good officer and a 'right standup chap, wot'.

though from what i understand he's due to ship out again soon. i could be wrong.

Search and rescue pilots, paramedics, firemen and other life savers are well deserving of the occasional round of applause. They do highly stressful jobs that make a literal difference between life and death.

When I read the negative comments on here, I'm pretty much taking it as disrespect towards everyone who was involved, because almost certainly they all see each other as worthy of congratulations for a job well done.

Article forgot to add that he doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis.

BadReligion: He is only a Lieutenant? For some reason I thought he would have been given a higher rank to start with considering he will be King someday.

His Dad has all that crap. Willy probably gets it when Charles moves to Queen's Bishop 7 checkmate.
Charles is a Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Royal Air Force. Last time I looked he has similar titles for the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Australian Army and Royal Australian Navy.

I love the biased contrast in the article. Prince William helps save a girl's life like a boss while his dad is in the hospital with a bladder infection. There was no need to add that in at the end, but I enjoy that they did.

Truth - rich people are rich largely because they are *actually* better at life than poor people. Yes, some exceptions exist - but largely, it's true. The argument poor/middle class people always have is that rich people are only rich because their parents, or the benefits they get as a child of a rich person....but even that speaks to the quality of their parents. If your Mom let some dirty coal miner bang her and knock her up - well, that doesn't bode well for her ability to select a mate.

2012-08-19 06:45:27 AM
Oh, he's rich but not a rich American. Now it makes sense.

2012-08-19 06:49:38 AM
Stunning is a word I reserve for the best of the best. I would say she's very attractive.

No sammiches needed- most people fill out as they get older, and it doesn't hurt to have a buffer to start with.

All in a day's work. No, literally, it's my job. Why is this news?

Say what you will about the British royal family, William is definitely their hope for the future. By all appearances he has a serious sense of duty and responsibility to his country and is a generally decent guy. His brother is... well, maybe he's just younger, but he also knows he's not likely to be king, which takes off a lot of the pressure not to be a party animal playboy, I would imagine.

almandot: The paramedic, Master Aircrew "Harry" Harrison,

At least one Harry Harrison is still alive and kicking... :/

Yep, he was trying to do his job and some reporter had to blow it for him. It's a real shame.

He was part of a forward scout unit if I recall. Granted, this wasn't like any ordinary forward group. They weren't exactly stupid about letting a potential future king on the frontline without protection. His unit was made out of SAS and Gurkhas. The SAS are the archetype from which all other special forces in the world trickle down, and the Gurkhas are the most lethal fighters on the planet.

They must have been dangerous as all hell.

I know a lot of Americans can't understand why anyone would still want a monarchy but there's lots of reasons. And one of those reasons is wartime. They get to live it up during the peacetime and we're fine with that. But come wartime, we look to them for leadership. Whether that is as a figurehead or as an actual officer on the line, it's the noble's job to provide that leadership. Historically that's why we would have ceded power to them to begin with. And the British Royal Family continue that tradition by having their sons (and sometimes daughters - like QEII herself) serve in all their major branches to learn about the forces under their authority.

The most often cited reason for a constitutional monarchy is that it provides a head of state which does not hold political office. This means that you can be loyal to your country and to its leader, while disagreeing with the actions of its government. (And no, you can't be loyal to the United States Constitution, for example, as it's a written document, you can only be loyal to the values of the people that wrote it, and they are long dead).

Flight Lieutenant, same as a USAF captain. He has very high ceremonial ranks in ceremonial units but the actual military doesn't care about that.

2012-08-19 09:46:50 AM
He IS rich, but not because of his job!

... and the other members of the crew? Not a word about them! I guess THEY didn't save a drowning girl. Slackers.

I like that he's a S'n'R pilot, it's not a fluff position. Safe...relative to other things, yes. However, it does require quite a bit of precision flying in some treacherous conditions. It's awesome that he was motivated enough to acquire the necessary skill set.

2012-08-19 01:22:51 PM
Somethings wrong. The phrase "16 year old girl" in an article title, on Fark without the words "teacher" or "sex".

Let me get this straight, he gets crap from some of you by not being like the royalty of old, simply spending all their time on fox hunts and, then, in smoking jackets, sipping brandy. Others slam (you wish!) the fact that his wife doesn't have the baggage your girlfriend/wife does.

Good on him, I say...and I'd risk personal injury from her sharp kneecaps any day.

Bad Troll. Rich people 'get' rich usually by coming out of the right vagina. Most of the rest are miserable pricks that focus all their energy on getting rich at the expense of everyone else. As a whole, the species (and the world) would be a better place without them and their inbred DNA.

"Reporter" is overstating it. It was a crappy Australian women's magazine. Nobody actually noticed for about a month after publication until it all showed up on the Drudge Report.

He's not all that rich. Sure, being a member of the royal family has perks, but they don't have that much actually money. It's not like the queen can liquidate the palace to free up funds. Millionaire? Sure. That will buy you a small apartment in New York. Extremely rich? No.
