Yes, this is the same guy who said we don't need Obamacare because people don't die from cancer anymore.

Sounds like quite an elitist there.

2012-08-18 09:36:07 PM
He did not say that.

"My federal return is probably 25 pages long," Collins added. "It's too much for the public to absorb."

FFS.

No, your whargaarbl is too much to absorb.

"...the cause of and solution to all of life's problems".

Still can't quite believe the GOP are going with "don't worry your pretty little head about it" as a strategy here.

THIS! This is what Rmoney should've done. At least this can be attributed to dipshiattedness more than malfeasance.

I don't trust any candidate that files anything other than a 1040EZ.

So this is the new thing then?

2012-08-19 12:54:18 AM
Given the things that are being said about Romney's taxes and how grossly inaccurate those things are...

He might be right.

Because I'm sure its just misunderstanding and not intentional distortion.

A sad new trend.
There should be a law requiring all candidates to release tax returns for at least 10 years. Of course that would never get passed as a law.

I'm loving the irony right now, considering that you all did the exact same stuff you're saying we might do when Obama released his birth certificate twice.

If only there were some profession that had expertise in researching information and then presenting to the public in an easy-to-understand way so that the average person wouldn't have to read the tax returns and figure it out themselves.

2012-08-19 01:01:51 AM
Wow, at least 2 tax return greens here, I wonder how many more we have to see over something that is boring?

Honestly, the best thing Romney could do for his campaign, starting right friggin' now, is hide. No public appearances, no interviews, no "off the cuff" statements, nothing. Let his campaign do his talking for him.

Because, at this moment, each word that comes out of Romney's mouth is just another shoveful dug out of his own political grave. Ryan isn't helping, either, but damn, Romney's just a friggin' fool.

For that to be a problem, the GOP actually has to release their tax returns, dontcha think?

Then again, wild unfettered speculation resulting in unfounded illogical conclusions IS a lot more fun.

No, it's just the argument "ah, well you don't understand it so there is no point." Well, I would probably need a journalist who is an expert in tax policy to help me make sense of a complicated tax return of a millionaire, but it's not beyond my grasp.

I'm having trouble giving a flying f*ck given how poor the writing is.

Most people probably would too. But it only takes one clueful person to understand it and pass the word. It's funny, in the day and age of wikileaks and effective crowd sourcing data mining out of massive lengthy documents, some nitwit actually tries to say that nobody could understand his 25 page tax return.

"Collins says, though, that he can't release those full tax details without revealing his business partners' income and without jeopardizing the competitive position of his companies."

His companies' positions would be jeopardized if people knew how much he earned?
If they are publicly traded then it should be pretty much common knowledge what he earns working at the companies (or else everything conservatives have told me about shareholders deciding through market forces the pay of high level employees is completely false).

If they aren't, what difference does it make whether he's earning 1 dollar a year or a billion to his competitors?

I'd share my tax returns with you but, you see, I file electronically and I wouldn't want to risk shocking you.

If it's a private partnership, you want to keep that info secret. Just release the 'back page', and not the stuff that details what's going on in the partnership.

What competitive positions of the business would be compromised?

He should be looked on with suspicion.

Romney releasing his tax returns prior to 2010 is not just political poison, but may actually be the one thing which causes a populist groundswell that upsets the gaming of the system which is so tilted to the Wall Street casino. It really could be an outrage, and a disaster for the business wing of the Republican party.

I doubt it. If he releases his returns, those of us who are not inclined to like him will be outraged, those on the other side won't care, and not a single Elector will change hands.

If he continues to make it "obvious he is hiding something," we can continue to make it bigger than it probably is.

Wait... I see what you are doing... Please carry on.

I hate to be that guy... but I went hunting for some of his old comments, and randomjsa has consistently said the whole birth certificate is only supported by a few fringe websites on the right. In fact, for one particularly trollish BC headline, his only comment in the entire thread was a "you're not helping" image...

I know it's hard to believe, you're welcome to prove me wrong...
