Since this is Kos, the answer is "no, it most likely isn't"...

Actually, it's Senator Max Baucus saying this.

Uhm. You know this is the sort of thing that you can verify outside of Kos, right?
There's no magic here. This isn't wizardry.

Zilch can't "prove" anything until Glenn Beck tells him what to think.

What do they need returns for? He's already admitted he pays about 1/3 of what "little people" pay, percentage wise.

I'd say the point is already proven.

Jasson Cherkis, of Huffington Post reports that Mitt Romney's 2010 Tax Disclosure May Be Lacking 'Unrelated Business' Form. This is in addition to the previously discussed lack of the itemization of the schedule itemizing foreign bank holdings
...
From what Romney has disclosed, there is mounting circumstantial evidence that the IRA may hold offshore investments through what are known as "blocker corporations," which help him avoid paying taxes. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.) told The New York Times, "From what I have read about Governor Romney's tax returns, I think it raises very serious questions."

Let's get back on thread topic, shall we?

Long form tax returns?

2012-08-18 04:37:13 PM
I just want to see what tax loopholes he exploited for his own gain.

That will remind me of how hilarious it is when people try to remind me that the rich in this country are taxed too much and need more tax cuts to create jobs.

Wow. For a non-issue there sure are a lot of threads on Mitt Romney's refusal to release his tax returns.

That's just weird.

It's bullshiat like this is why Romany would be a fool to release anything more. Give these idiots in opposition research, they could find something wrong with a ham sandwich Romney had for lunch.

You do know that Kos usually hyperlinks to other sites, right? In this case you can go to HuffPo and from there you can go to the NYT and Vanity Fair. It's not that hard.

Now that you mention it, I was going to create a job today, but then I got a sad because of how much money Mitt Romney would have had to pay in taxes if he didn't hire an accountant. So I didn't.

One of Romney's key points is that rich people need their taxes lowered. Tradition aside, releasing his returns would be a great way to prove his point...but so far, he's released only one part of one return, that still shows he pays less, as a percentage of income, than most people.

Furthermore, releasing the returns would absolutely destroy Harry Reid, due to the 'Paid no taxes' claim.

Something has to be in there. Something that would damage his campaign far more than the speculation already is. Otherwise, refusing to release them (as every Presidential candidate for the last few decades has) is counterproductive.

And it would have to be fairly recent as well. Otherwise he'd go back to 2008 or something with his returns and just say, "There's 5 years, let's move on." Some people would still want more but he'd illustrate that he's running in good faith and it would pretty much be the end of it.

I'm thinking he liquidated millions of dollars one year to the next in an offshore account or something, nothing illegal, just incredibly shifty and douchey.

If this is the case, why hasn't Romney turned the argument around and attacked Obama's tax record since he has over 10 years out? Why hasn't anyone? Romney certainly has shown he isn't above that sort of thing and it even fits his "I'm rubber, you're glue" strategy, and even if he wouldn't I'm sure someone else who wanted to see Obama lose would use Obama's tax returns against him.

Or maybe releasing all your tax returns normally makes this a non-issue, and Romney doesn't just release them because he's afraid of what's in them.

Nope, if he has to start explaining every little thing they decide to make issue with, it will just take hime off message. As for Harry Reid -- fark him, he's just a child molester that hasn't been caught yet, that is unless he can prove me wrong.

I'm sure Reid would be happy to release his Federal "I didn't molest children" forms from 1999-2011.

It's looking more and more like he got amnesty for his Swiss bank accounts in 2009. Romney didn't have a problem handing over twenty years worth of returns when McCain asked, either because there was nothing amiss with them, or all of the incriminating stuff was neatly tucked away in Switzerland. When the Treasury started leaning hard on the Swiss, they started releasing names of account holders, and at that point any tax attorney is going to advise his client to take the slap on the wrist and pay the fine.

Obama's team knows this, which is why they said they only want to see five years. They're giving Romney enough rope to hang himself. If he releases five years, there's a glaring hole where 2009 should be. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama goes even further and asks for only one more year. Romney again is stuck because releasing 2011, 2010, and 2008 is even more suspicious. They've got him in checkmate, and they're free to plaster the television with Mitt Romney saying how suspicious it is that Ted Kennedy wasn't releasing his taxes, Mitt's father saying anyone who doesn't release taxes is probably hiding something, the fact that Romney already lied previously about his taxes, and Romney saying, point blank, "I've given you people all you need to know."
