What we need to do is hook the candidates up to an electrical circuit, and if they just give part of their stump speech instead of actually answering a question, they get shocked.

Silly analogy but the writers point that legitimate third party candidates deserve a voice at these debates but can't because the two parties work together to keep them out is sound.

All the tangential beer discussion notwithstanding, that was actually a good article. Ultimately we have a two-party political oligarchy that will stamp out all outside political forces at every step. Sure, they disagree with each other on a few things, but they unite to defeat the common enemy of outside political non-affiliation at every turn.

Maybe that's because Americans can only think of things comparatively in terms of alcoholic beverages.
