I for one will certainly not begrudge them the honor.

7 championships, but you'd have to be about 60 years old to remember the last of them.

Sigh.

Of course you wouldn't. Bama will claim a title if the cashier at the local Pig says it's so.

Don't be fatuous. Peter King covers the NFL.

My bad, I read that as cashier AND local pig... the local cashier at the Piggly Wiggly is Bill Simmons.

If Minnesota was in the Western Conference (what Big 10 was called back then), and did not play Michigan in 1904....their share of the title should be questioned. Both Minny and Mich were in the same conference then (the only one in existence at the time)

For the first 20 years of the 20th C...Michigan was probably the best program in the nation. They had Fielding "Hurry Up" Yost and his point-per-minute offense. I think they would have beat Minny in 1904

As a Minnesotan we will take any championship we can get .

So they put it in the 1996 record book, and it took Minnesota this long to realize it?

...1904 Minnesota squad that went 13-0 and outscored its opponents, 725-12...

Lets see.. that means they averaged almost 56 points a game, for the entire season, while allowing their opponents LESS than 1 pt a game. (off to google...)

09/17/1904 Twin Cities Central High W 107-0
09/24/1904 South Dakota W 77-0
09/28/1904 Shattuck W 75-0
10/01/1904 Carleton W 65-0
10/05/1904 St. Thomas W 47-0
10/08/1904 North Dakota W 35-0
10/15/1904 Iowa State W 32-0
10/22/1904 Grinnell W 146-0
10/29/1904 Nebraska W 16-12
11/05/1904 Lawrence W 69-0
11/12/1904 at Wisconsin W 28-0
11/19/1904 at Northwestern W 17-0
11/24/1904 at Iowa W 11-0

Pesky nebraska ruined their shutout season!

Interestingly enough, Nebraska is a school with shutout seasons in the past.

More interestingly enough, so is Oregon State.

In 1904, Oklahoma (then Oklahoma A&M) had a 15-0 record, and outscored their opponents 1,288 to 0. During the course of the year, they beat Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, Texas, Nebraska, Alabama, Harvard, Lehigh, William....and Mary.

Yeah I didnt care enough to search for them, the biggest thing to every happen to the school is that they based a crappy TV sitcom up there.
