Yeah I am not sure if cute is a word I would describe a giant marsupial rat. Those things are evil in the wild. I have had my fair share of run ins with them and I know them things are mean and dirty and destructive.

They could say that opposums are highly unlikely to have rabies, which is true, as they are very resistant, but it's not impossible for them to contract it.

That's simply not true. 1 in 800 opossums are carriers of rabies. They're not immune, but they're very unlikely to carry it, and far less likely to communicate it to humans...

provided you don't keep one in the house and feed it by hand.

A girl I used to date in Florida. She found it as a baby and it had a lame leg. She fed it and took care of it awhile, it was a cute little thing. Then for whatever reason, she got tired of it. She told me she was going to return the opossum to the wild, I said don't, it's accustomed to humans now. Let's turn it in at the wild life preserve. She did it anyway, next day she found it squashed in the road on it's way back to her house.
I took it as an omen..no, I didn't get squashed, but I ended up disposed of as well.
Which was ok, cause I had a replacement lined up.

Resistance, nothing. Small mammals are very unlikely to have rabies. To contract rabies, you have to a) be bitten by a rabid animal, b) survive the bite. Cats, rats, bats, and other small mammals are generally pretty unlikely to catch rabies simply because the rabid animal will just tear them apart.

I was going to contradict you regarding bats, but fortunately I read the CDC page first. Bats seem to be in the same boat as humans - they may get rabies, but it's not common. Not worth taking the risk by handling a bat without gloves, but then again it's not worth worrying about being bitten by a rabid bat.

I like bats. They get a bad rap.

When she finally let him talk and he said he had not idea what she was talking about and had no kitten or possum to get rid of and someone must be pulling a prank, she started cussing them both then walked out...

We've had possums living under our house, on and off, for about 10 years. My husband considered the last one a pet--it would eat carrots from his hand. Me, I think he's nuts for encouraging ROUSes anywhere near our house.

There's a very simple solution. It involves a series of gas lines, valves and timed ignitions.

You may want to review your insurance first.
