"Since internet penetration is low and contact with the outside world is limited, children in Afghanistan are more dependent on textbooks than anywhere else in the world," he said.

We should just carpet bomb them with iPads and wi-fi hot spots. Would probably accomplish more and be cheaper than what we've already done.

Most people from the Balkans all have their own take on history which says what happened while using the exaggerated history to bolster their claims to the land, and woe betide the man who claims contrary to them. Also their particular ethnic group single handedly stopped the Ottomans and the Mongol Horde, had the largest empire, the best soldiery, and richest cities. They're nuts.

I also knew a Chinese guy who refused to believe that China invaded Tibet because to him Tibet was always a part of China, so I had to prove to him the prior existence of an independent Tibetan kingdom. I don't think he believed me though.

Some people cannot be convinced of anything unless they were there at that moment in history, and sometimes even then they'll have a bizarrely colored view of events.

Also, American history is by and large VERY sanitized and whitewashed. Sorry to everyone who think it's just Texans and teatards, but you probably believe in at least a few of the myths that keep the nation going. People have always been petty, corrupt, and evil, and the US has done a lot of dumb and occasionally evil shiat in its time, and ancestors of yours have probably done LOTS of both. Mine have, hell, I have. That's the human condition.

Wouldn't help much, even if you could do it without committing mass murder. There'll always be large numbers of people who will worship whatever is handy, and there will always be a somewhat smaller group of people ready to stick their hand up the worship object's metaphorical back and lead the first group around by the nose.

Or put simply: kill one god, and there'll be another along in a minute.

Yes, the idea that the very rich shouldn't pay a lower tax rate than people who work for a living is just a step on the road to Stalinism. Good thing you warned us in time, I'd almost fallen for it myself.

If I'm not mistaken that 47% statistic is for federal income taxes only -and even that is taken out of context.

If you pay 50% total tax rate, you are not the very rich he is talking about. It sounds like you work for a living. He is obviously referring to those who accumulate the majority of their wealth through investment (paying capital gains instead of income taxes). You also may want to find a better accountant.

Also, while the 47% of the country you are referring to may pay little to no federal income tax, they still lose a larger percent of their spendable income to payroll and sales taxes than you do. That, or they are to young/old to work in the first place. Damn those 80 year olds not paying income tax!

NO ONE READ THIS POST, IT IS FROM A KNOWN MEMBER OF THE JEWISH KNIGHT TEMPLAR CABAL. YOU WILL BE ELIMINATED IF YOU READ!!!!

Mock26: Care to list about a dozen or so of these myths?

Let's start from the beginning: Columbus was a hero. Despite seeking God, Glory, and Gold, he died penniless and unloved by his employers even though he kill and enslaved thousands in their name. The Pilgrims came here for religious freedom. lolnope, they were ejected after a coup d'etat against the king and a few pitiful years of civil war. They had no choice but to cross the sea or be executed. Washington was a great mold for the Presidency. He was a military man who hated governing and just wanted to retire to his ranch (which imho made him one of the few decent men to govern), and his VP and successor wiped his ass with the Constitution. Jefferson is a perfect ideal for society. His beliefs were basically intellectual teatardism - fine when you have money, slaves, and a large Virginia ranch, not so great when you have to live around other people trying to make a living. He's probably be pretty pissed at social security, medicare, government-funded roads, and other entitlements teatards take for granted, of course. Ben Franklin was a solemn statesman. The man drank, smoked, and slept his way to greatness, and there's nothing wrong with that. He was perfectly suited to Paris at the time, of course. Slavery started the Civil War or slavery had nothing to do with the Civil War. The Confederacy and the major states all went on record that slavery was definitely one of their top reasons for splitting, but there were many other differences on the scope and direction of government that it looks like today's polarization. Sherman burned his way through the South. He burned a few small towns - and at the time, Atlanta was a small town - but his reputation grew beyond his achievements. Custer was a hero and a martyr. The nation would have been better off had Custer died in the Civil War. The US was isolationist until WW1 and 2. We conquered half of the New World and as much of the East Indies as we could and held them until WW2, and anyone refusing to leave was evicted or fought off by the army. Singapore and Panama in particular were just us flexing overseas muscle. As above, Edison invented electricity. He was basically Stalin to Tesla's Trotsky, and despite being wrong about almost everything except how to make lots of money, he's still the one in the history books. The men who fought in WW2 were the Greatest Generation, as opposed to Vietnam baby-killers. The only difference is that in WW2, we were actually winning, and photojournalism hadn't appeared yet. Rape, looting, vandalism, and rape were all reported and documented throughout the war. Nixon wasn't really that bad. His record pretty much speaks for itself. People compare Obama to this shiat? We won the cold war with Free-Market Capitalism. We won it with enormous government investments in education, infrastructure, military, and scientific research. If Capitalism was all it took, Franco should have been the biggest world power by the end of the war.

Okay, I'm getting tired, I can't make it to a dozen (or did I?), but you get my drift. You might not hold any of those, you might just have lesser beliefs about the inherent goodness of the frontiersman, I don't know. I'm still re-examining things I thought I knew every year when I find out otherwise.

Why do you have to factor in 10 different taxes including probably gasoline tax to get 50% but disingenuously compare that to only income tax that poor people who barely make enough to survive?

The wiki page has data from all over the place, not just the Israel Defense Ministry's office. You can't exactly whitewash the fact that they educate children with false historic info and show the entire land of Israel as their mythical never existed country of "Palestine" and their blatant anti-semitism.

The palestinian textbooks are notorious for their bullshiat, anti-semitism and history revisionism.

The conflict is so heated, I don't think it's possible to find one. Anyone close enough to be able to gather enough information would have to take one side or another, and I doubt you want to fly over to do your own. The best you can do is look at all the sources and decide what sounds more reliable.

I ran some quick numbers and figured out that I'd have to be making at least $400,000 and spending it all to get to the point of 50% income (fed+CA), sales, gas, property, and other misc taxes. Aren't libertarians usually the ones who preach saving instead of spending full tilt?

So not only do you not have a citation to prove your claim, you also have weaseled your way out of the fact you compared all your taxes put together and compared it with merely income taxes from people who make less than 25k a year. When you want to debate facts like an adult, come back.
