Either I'm reading that wrong or Ireland has the wussiest cops on the planet.

I bet it was union rules, I hope it was union rules.

A prosecution lawyer said that after McEleney spat on the vehicle it was unfit for use.
The lawyer said it had to be cleaned again before it could be used.

Was this guy McEleney a farking xenomorph or something? Do they not have baby wipes in Ireland? Was the guy's BAC so high it made the car a fire hazard?

In the US the police would've wiped it off with his face.

The traditional way to disable a police car in Ireland and bits of Scotland is to head-butt the engine block until it falls to the ground. Ta da!

Makes you all the more likely to be arrested the next time.

Head-butting seems to have been invented in Glasgow in the late XVIIIth or early XIXth century. The first reference I have seen dates to the 1830s but it was probably only a novelty to the magistrate or social observer who recorded it. It caught on from there, especially during after the "Punk" movement in the late Sixties and Seventies of the last century.

So this is what Northern Ireland has come to. Back in the day the police stood in the face of terrorist bombing. Now they cower from spittle.

A friend of mine was a cop, and in the days before 24/7 video, yes, earlier poster, spit used to be cleaned up with spitter's faces.

/Same guy once had to hose out the back seat full of poo that oozed of of a drunk.
//That one received a screen-test before being dropped of at the jail.

This story is hard to swallow

I suspect he spit somewhere like the cops' seat, and they decided to declare it unfit until detailed to teach him not to be an ass.

2012-08-17 03:34:21 PM
Deputy District Judge Peter King ordered McEleney to undertake 175 hours of community service and pay compensation of £138 for the cleaning of the police vehicle.

Either I'm in the wrong line of work and should be undercutting the competition by charging 100 quid for 5 minutes of work with a garden hose and a rag, or "District Judge" Peter King is getting kickbacks.

Or maybe he's just a moran?

The court heard that while he was being placed in a police vehicle to be taken to the custody suite he spat on the door of the vehicle.

Well to be fair in the US, the cops would have shot him and said he was coming at them in a threatening manner and then threw a dangerous projectile at them.

After reading the article, I thought, "Aren't Irish men s'posed to be tough?"

I only ever pulled even at best with the Irish I boxed. Most of the time I got stomped through their sheer will...

Hmm. Of course those fellows were Irish-American...

I spit on a cop in Detroit in 1993 (see: Freddy Villia) and he didn't seem to give a fark about anything except kicking my ass.

/luckily I was still young and could run fast

I have to admit, I was hoping he had found a way to lock up a belt or wheel well or something by shoving an actual novel into it. Spit just wasn't what I was looking for.

Spit on it? I woulda pissed on it AND wiped my ass with the pigs uniform - with him in it!

There has to be more to that story. There is no way that merely spitting on the door of a cop car makes it unusable.
