(Jezebel)   In their continuing efforts to fix the economy, over the last year, conservative lawmakers have passed a record number of bills regulating banks and out of control financial institutions. Oh, wait, I meant women's access to medical care   (jezebel.com) divider line 18

ignite ice: Pro Life has almost nothing to do with "God's supervision" and more to do with an unborn child still being a living entity that has a right to life. Age should not be a determination for whether or not a child can be legally murdered. There are thousands of families waiting to adopt and they literally are adopting children from China of all places because everyone in this country has near zero morality when it comes to following through on the consequences of one's actions. If you're going to have pre-marital, unprotected sex, then you should be held accountable for seeing through your child's health, and that includes seeing through its birth and its chance at life.

This is a good point.

Though I would have to qualify that by saying it's absent any understanding of science, relies on some sort of horseshiat cartesian dualism the rest of the world debunked about five centuries ago and awash with hideous unintended consequences and could only be supported by a dangerously deranged fool that is deliberately ignorant.

Guys, this IS about JOBS. Blow jobs, hand jobs... If you scare women by taking away contraception or abortion rights, they'll have to be job creators to keep the men in their lives happy.

Ignorance of the Policy Cube, Wealth Cube & Ineffable Truth Cube indicts you stupid. Ignoring Republican Creation indicts you evil. Singularity President impossible. Lamestream Media allowing the elitist educated stupid to evaluate the 4 simultaneous 24 hour positions within a single rotation of News, equates allowing child-eating atheist demon to proof-read the Book of Mormon.

lennavan: Kome: I'm not. I'm proposing it being up to the woman to make that decision since it is her body and her rights are not in question

To get to the heart of the matter - do you think it should be legal to abort a 39 week old fetus? Is that solely a decision about the woman, her rights and her body?

I do, but only in stand your ground states. In ones that still have duty to retreat she has a duty to retreat once its possible to(in this case, at the point where it wont die anyway once she's no longer wrapped around it) before that she of course has every right to kill the intruder in body.

No this is the thread where a bunch of pro-choicers argue who is the most pro-choice of all. I believe the jobs bill thread is down the hall and to your left.

Well I believe that a woman has the right to terminate her child's life until it can survive on it's own. I'd say by like age 10 or so. Do I win the "most pro-choice" award?

ignite ice: Weaver95: But the first laws were handed down by heathens and pagan gods, not the christian gods (who didn't happen along until MUCH later). so...basically you are saying that only pagans are moral?

You're confusing myths with legends. A myth is something that has no factual basis but has been accepted as a concept or idea. Myths are founded on the notion that they didn't happen. A legend is something that concerns a particular subset of historical, cultural value, and is considered accurate based on its acceptance. Pagan gods are a good example of myth. Countless people in the Bible worshiped pagan gods and it was well documented that these were false gods who could not support the beliefs in them. The Judeo-Christian God is what we're looking for when we think of legend. The belief in the Christian God is a belief that is highly supported by historical documents in countless museums. The very fact that there are some billion followers who recognize the Christian God as truth is testament to His existence is substantially more noteworthy than the near zero people who still worship pagan deities.

The rights of the pregnant woman should take precedence if only for one simple fact:

Her personhood is not in question. Period. No one - liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, pro-choice, or anti-abortion - is saying outright that a pregnant woman is not a person. For that reason alone, her right to decide how her body is used is logically the one that should dictate whether or not she has an abortion.

By comparison, we do not force people with rare blood types to donate blood because it can and will go towards saving the lives of people who need blood transfusions. We do not legally require them to go through the minor inconvenience of taking their blood and having them rest for a couple of moments afterwards. And in those cases, the rights and personhood of both the person with the rare blood type and the person needing the transfusions are not in question. Both are people, with the right to live and the right to choose.

So, I ask seriously, what the f*ck is so special about a fetus that its rights somehow magically trump the rights of the woman carrying it? Why, all of a sudden in that case, does the supposed right of the fetus demand that a woman be forced to carry it inside of her for 40 weeks, with all of the resulting physiological changes that affect her physical and cognitive capabilities, and endure an incredibly painful and life-threatening procedure (giving birth is 14x more dangerous than having an abortion, by the by)?

Logically, if you genuinely believe that a pregnant woman should be legally forced to carry a fetus to term, you should also be voting to require people with rare blood types submit to having a pint of their blood taken every 6 months or so. Because in the latter case, you save more lives and the infringement on the rights of the carrier of that blood is far less severe. If you do not support forcing people to give blood, then SHUT THE EVER-LOVING F*CK UP ABOUT MAKING ABORTIONS ILLEGAL!
