both sides are bad? really?

i'd say it's 80-20 republicans. maybe 90-10. but we have to be "balanced," amirite?

2012-08-17 11:17:11 AM
That depends on what the definition of "very" is.

Surely someone can point out all these lies Obama has been telling.

I'll wait.

Well, he's black, so just pick something he said at random and there ya go. Tens of millions of Republicans will believe it's a lie.

Oh that's an alternative way to go: attribute to Obama hyperbole or distortions that were said by people who are not Obama.

2012-08-17 11:28:09 AM
So Romney's campaign is lying and all of Romney's SuperPACs are lying and one of Obama's superPACs is lying.

So yeah, both sides are bad. Vote Republican.

Romney hides his recent tax returns = Obama not releasing his homework

Romney making millions by taking away employees health care = Obama eating a pork chop with a knife and fork

Romney helping Marriot lie and evade taxes = Obama not wearing a tie in the oval office

Romney hiding in France during the Vietnam War = Obama mispronouncing "corpsman"

Romney hiring illegal immigrants to work for him = the whole Obama mustard thing

Both sides are bad, vote Republican.

So your example of Obama lying is someone who isn't Obama making a series of factually accurate statements and his opinion of them?

Swiftboats and Willie Horton stuff was worse. Give it time we will get there. Romney has already started playing up the Chicago (inner city) angles. He's working his way up to it. Obama has come out tough but I don't think he will bump it up any further. Of course the Superpacs can do whatever the hell they want. Did you see the one with Obama pushing Granny in a wheelchair over the cliff.

"Unbiased" article was clearly pro-Obama.

Obama's favorite Super PAC, the only one that he encouraged his donors to support, has been running on the web a deceptive ad in which a laid-off steelworker blames Romney and Bain Capital for his wife's death from undetected cancer. The story is sad, but the woman died five years after the steel plant closed and had health insurance for part of that period.

You forgot to mention, as Romney's campaign clearly pointed out, that she would have had insurance in Massachusetts when Romney was governor, because of his universal health-care. Why are you hiding Romney's accomplishments?

Near as I can tell, Romney and Ryan are the only ones that have outright lied. Obama may favor an optimistic interpretation of some things, but that isn't lying, it's simply opinion. Lying is when you state a fact incorrectly, and with the intent to decieve. In fact, politicians rarely lie, but Romney is an exception to that

That would be credible if a) she lived in Mass. and b) Romney wasn't now campaigning against nationwide universal healthcare.

2012-08-17 01:41:04 PM
What makes the 1988 campaign so relevant today is that Obama and Romney are the first pair of presidential candidates since Bush and Dukakis who behave as if politics are beneath them. Watching Obama you have the sense that he would rather read a book or a stack of position papers than spend three days on a bus touring Iowa.

I fail to see how this is a bad thing. But I digress, Obama and Romney are equally dishonest? Do provide examples.

Romney, in television ads that he authorized and in speeches, has repeated the blatant falsehood that Obama has enacted a plan "to gut welfare reform" by removing its work requirement. Obama's favorite Super PAC

Ah yes, in Romney authorized ads and directly from his mouth in speeches, Mitt Romney has blatantly lied. Also an ad run by Super PAC that Obama did not authorize lied, therefore both sides are equally bad.

Worst. Journalist. Ever.

A 22 minute ad was put online in the last week. Short version: because information was leaked about details of the raid it proves Obama would threaten national security by releasing classified military information that makes him look good despite the fact that the former Navy members they interviewed (who had no involvement in the raid) say they don't believe that Obama was a driving force in the mission going forward and probably was forced by the military who collected all the intelligence that lead to the raid to take action.

This is the problem. Obama or his people have certainly twisted facts occasionally, but there are very few outright lies. Romney has outright lied. And yet, 'both parties are bad' once again. Look, I don't approve of every message Obama has put out, the cancer one was definitely beneath him, but if you think for a second Romney will institute a healthcare plan, you've got another thing coming.

While we're on half truths, the Medicare thing is to me basically a lie by Romney's group - it is a spending cut but not a services cut, yet they are screaming about it being a service cut. I mean isn't cutting spending what the GOP wants? Can you guys literally have ZERO credibility? So far, pretty much. Even better, the original projections were 500 billion in spending cuts, now that figure is 719 billion. That's even better!

This is seriously the worst campaign I have ever seen in my life, but make no mistake, most of it comes from the psycho right wingers and their horrible presidential pick.

2012-08-17 01:53:00 PM
Wow, what a lazy piece of journalism.

False equivalence is false.

Best line in the piece is ""Roger Ailes and Lee Atwater were the perfect Good Cop/Bad Cop team, but with one twist: there was no Good Cop." and it isn't even Shapiro's.

Comparing Romney's blatant "Obama wants to gut welfare reform" lie to the "deceptive" Bain killed my job and then my wife died of cancer" ad?

How about "Obama says you didn't build this"?

Or "Obama wants to stop troops from voting"?

Etc, etc, ad infinitum, ad naseum.

Oh, and edited several of Obama's quote out of context to make it look like he was claiming things he didn't. And leaving out information like that Obama ordered the raid over a missile strike over the objections of just about everyone. Or the use of a backup helicopter. Or that this new swift boat group is made up entirely of die hard republicans and is run out of the office of a republican pac but they're TOTALLY non-partisan.

Yes, try not to derp out, but I had thought it was fairly accepted that both candidates have been talking out of their butt basically their entire political career. Feel free to prove me wrong.
