No way, man, I'm going to Diaspora instead. It's the social wave of the future!

$50 is pretty steep, but I wonder if $1 might get a lot of people in the door.

Next step for FB is a $6.99/month service that makes your stream ad free. You'll still get sidebar ads, but nothing in your stream

After FB makes its coming changes and starts catering primarily to advertisers rather than users, this might become attractive.

Though the contacts list in my phone is still vastly superior to both.

NoScript/AdBlock does a pretty good job if killing sidebar ads. It's the bullshiat stream ads posing as your friends posts that piss me off.

Did you find that long lost classmate who was your best friend's second cousin that sent you a message? Was the message important?!

I remember reading somewhere, a while back, that Google averages $25 per user annually through ads. Assuming that's correct, that $25 provides access to a corni-farkin-copia of online services, some of which are insanely good.

So I have to ask, in what ways do App.net believe it's vast array of online services are twice as good as Google's?

Exactly. My Facebook "friends" are already half-assed careerists who like cats and showing pictures of their babies, I don't need trending articles or music right now thank you very much... Only three of my friends read interesting things and they tell me about them already.

Yeah, I've lost the fascination with the news feed, due to every third post being an ad and the others usually being inane narcissistic crap. I check FB for events and messages. If FB or anyone else thinks I'll pay for their services, they're nuts.

Can modmins at least attempt to not green verbatim headlines?

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way... The verbatim headline always feels like it was submitted by the author in a moment of lazy self-promotion.

Unless the joke in the headline was unintentional, that is.
