Starring Tom Hardy. Are they going to put a mask over his face and alter his voice so that he is unrecognizable and could have been played by any actor with a pulse?

I'm a bit leery of a fourth film in this series, although it is written by George Miller. I hope he fills it with all the gritty realism he brought to the script of Babe.

I would have loved to been at the story pitch for Thunderdome.

"Guys, we have a really cool idea for a Mad Max movie"

"Yeah but where are the cars?"

"That crap only gets in the way of the story and characters. Trust me, a midget on the back of a big dude in black leather will make everyone forget all about those stupid car cars. Plus, we have an idea for an awesome theme song""

A: Global warming

Oddly enough, for most of the last few years, the Australian AGW True Believers were telling everyone that the drought there was a result of the Dreaded Global Warming, and that the drought would continue indefinitely.

They started coming up with alternative explanations when the drought ended. The end of the drought was, of course, caused by... Global Warming.

Because Global Warming causes everything. Forever.

sounds good... too bad the guy that knew how to make a decent mad max movie died back in the day.

yes, mad max and mad max II (the roadwarrior) were good. i don't talk about the tina turner movie.

This actually sounds promising. Miller has a great cast lined up. Heres hoping we see another v 8 interceptor

Any MAD MAX movie buffs in this thread?

What the hell happened between Mad Max: the Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome? I mean in regards to the theme, production, and filming of the movies. Did they change directors and writers? Did the producers and movie studio step in and say, "let's make Thunderdome more kiddie friendly and not the hardcore insanely violent movie like the previous one was!" The Road Warrior is still one of the most graphic, violent, and disturbing movie I've ever seen but Thunderdome is just an hour and a half, "WTF am I watching" movie.  Kind of hard to understand how Mel Gibson would sign on to doing this third film when it is sooo bad!

I liked Mad Max 3. There. I said it.

Besides, it gave us: Thunderdome; Break a deal, spin the wheel; Who run Bartertown?; Master Blaster; and lots of other awesome. Yes, it kinda broke down in the third act, but it was still fun.

But Mad Max 4 without Mel Gibson? Yes, he's a collossal douche, but he IS Max. notsureifwant...

the producer died. apparently, he was the brains of the operation. the director wanted to make it a mixture of homage to his deceased friend, and child friendly... also, there was a lot of trouble making the film, many distractions, and no one could be completely engaged.

In my opinion, what happened is that the first two films became popular on video, specifically in the United States. So rather than make a low-budget action film for a niche audience they went for a Hollywood blockbuster that would appeal to everyone.

Another vote for Mad Max 3 being good. Not better than 2 but surprisingly good.

meh, mad max 3 is problematic. unfortunately, it is many people's introduction to mad max, so they hold on to it like it's special.

mad max 1 is the best. it follows the fall of max, coinciding with the fall of man. the degeneration. mad max 2 (road warrior) progresses beyond that initial lapse, to show the hellish landing of the fall. regardless, it maintains a striving optimism in spite of its bleakest outlook (papagallo and his band of refiners). part 3 is like an apology, an attempt to rehabilitate mankind. through children... terrible.

/ oh yeah, *** spoiler alert *** anyone else know that max's wife lives through the first movie? the baby is doa, but the wife is alive, max is just too oblivious to listen to the doctors.

YESSSS!!! YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

In Mad Max the Road Warrior does anyone think Max could take Wez (the gay guy with a red mohawk) or the Great Humongous on in a fair fight? All the bad guys were frightening and looked like they would eat you alive but the bad guys in Thunderdome were the comic relief. WTF! The main bad guy was tiny and not the least bit intimidating.

Gotta say, Mad Max and The Road Warrior hit the nail on the head, delivered, and left you wanting more.

Thunderdome was the Aliens 3 of the series. Not...bad..... but sufficiently different in vibe to make you very aware that things were proceeding in alternate, weirder tangents.

Really like being in the car with your parents, and instead of taking you to awesome, they turn left and bring you to a teahouse instead of the boardwalk.

The seriously funny thing is Max Max (1979) and Road Warrior (1981) had tons of insane car culture to pull from - all the wild rides you see are built on late 60s / early 70s iron. Pop out of the theater back then and you'd still see American (and in this case, you're exiting the theater in Australia) and Aussie cars of that era still on the road.

I can't imagine anyone making post-apocalyptic cars or awesome rides out of Prius' or Corollas.

/Gets a sad because 99.999% of the stuff today is very, very sterile. Competent, but boring.

Because of TDKR, I see Hardy as more of a Lord Humongous character. They should have gone with Ryan Kwanten or Eric Bana or Russell Crowe as Max.

FTDFA:
Shooting on "Mad Max: Fury Road" is taking place in Africa with the support of the Australian government. Originally slated to be shot in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia, the production was forced to relocate due to severe flooding, rendering the Australian landscape unsuitable for the film. The rain turned the area into an oasis instead of the post-apocalyptic terrain that is the setting for Max's world.

Remember kids, global warming causes both drought and floods. It causes both MORE moisture to be in the air (causing more snow) and LESS moisture to be in the air (causing drought). It causes polar ice to be both more prevalent and less prevalent.

In short, global warming is omnipotent - it can do literally ANYTHING.

Really like Ryan Kwanten in True Blood. The guy nails the role and accent so well, I didn't even realize he was Australian until after 2-3 seasons and came across it on another website.

On another note, one of the things that bothered me most about Beyond Thunderdome was bringing back Bruce Spence and acting like he was a completely different character.

Probably 50% of the cars in Road warrior were based on the VW bug. There were scads of those things back then. I should know, I owned 5 of them back in the 80s and 90s, mostly chopped into baja dune buggies

Okay, when I first saw the Road Warrior, I was about 10, and I thought the blonde guy riding behind Wez (red mohawk guy) was a chick. I remember asking my dad, "Is that a woman?" thinking at the time 'wow, Australian women are ugly and those are some sad boobies.' After a long uncomfortable pause my dad said, "......yeah....." Also, why the hell would all the guys turn gay and wear assless chaps in the Mad Max world? I can understand the punk-mohawk look as part of gan/tribe culture but turning gay? WTF?

And the little guy, Ironbar(?), from Thunderdome would get his ass handed to him by Max on his best day and Max's worst.

why do people have gay sex in prison? does prison make them gay? nope. sometimes people just go after what's there, or like to dominate another person, or something. or, maybe the guy was just gay, and leave it at that.

in the first mad max movie, when the biker gang attacked the man and woman, they raped both of them violently... as can be inferred when the guy ran away with a bloody ass. (the mfp (max and goose) just called him a turkey).

Maybe he's straight and just enjoys a gentle breeze on a hot day. It's not like there are many of life's little pleasures left in that apocalyptic hellhole.

(I don't remember the movies well enough to remember if there is any reason besides his choice of pant for people to assume he's gay)
