So Honey Badger doesn't get to play in the tie breaker?

It must have been bad to be that talented and kicked off the LSU football team. I mean when you can kick a guy into the side of curb and play for a national championship that same year.

What, did this guy literally come to the spring practices with a needle sticking out of his arm...more than once?

Eh, say what you will about Les Miles, the dude will not hesitate to discipline a player.

It kinda helps when you know that #2, 3, and 4 on the depth chart were all 5-star recruits as well, but still, Les will kick a dude off the team without remorse.

Maybe he can go hang out with Greg Reid from FSU now.

Drug rehab ... does that mean image rehab? Or did he really have a drug problem worse than marijuana?

2012-08-17 10:38:02 AM
This kind of makes me think Mathieu wasn't kicked off for weed, as was the general suspicion. Nobody goes into rehab for weed.

How big is meth in the bayou?

Marijuana addiction? Jesus christ, what a pussy. The only withdrawals you feel from not smoking weed are a decreased appetite, irritability and insomnia. If you can't handle coming down off that I don't know what to tell ya.

Does anybody know what the heck he's been doing? It doesn't sound like weed anymore.

Sounds like desperation to me

Being the cynic that I am, this strikes me as an overreactive PR based move to convince potential future colleges and (more importantly) pro scouts that he is not a character risk and has "gotten his life back on track."

I am an actual "graduate" of the facility he will be attending. When I was there, someone who claimed to be addicted to weed would have been laughed out of the place. However, John Lucas does have a lot of pull there, so who knows?

Whether Mathieu might be able to return to the LSU football team in 2013 still has not been addressed definitively by the school or athletic department.

I like their optimism, but wasn't this his junior year? Dude isn't playing college ball anywhere this year, or ever again. He'll be eligible to enter the draft this spring and someone will pick him up. He won't be a 1st round pick most likely, but he won't be a 7th rounder either.

What tie-breaker? Alabama leads 46-25-5. Would love to watch him get beat down again by the Tide.

If he entered rehab due to marijuana use, then he should be called "Big Fat Pussy Badger" or "Honey Bucket"...

Surely he was doing something that is actually addictive?

2012-08-17 12:52:33 PM
Yeah I agree. This does not sound like he has a problem with weed. This sounds like he is full on addicted to something. My money is on pills or coke.

I vote PR move.  Most people don't know a lot about pot.  As well, many people (including NFL scouts, etc.) are not going to believe he "just gave it up".  Though its entirely easy to do so.  Hence, spend a few bucks documenting yourself going to rehab and coming out a better person.

No, this sounds like "shiat, that plan won't work because it will drop me down at least 2 rounds in the draft."

This is no different than Tiger's treatment for sex addiction.

Also, won't he be eligilbe for the draft next year? That way, no chance of injury this season.

Dude's like 5'7''. He's a 3-4 rd pick at best. He's not even the best cover corner on his team. If he can play safety, maybe. Or be a standout returner. But I don't think he has millions of dollars at risk over this, really. Nobody was gonna pay him millions in the first place (ok, except maybe the Raiders).

No way. In the SEC, all that means is you are made to run a few extra wind sprints.

That's just a rumor, however.

Actually he's eligible this year (something I just learned in a related thread).  Maurice Clarett successfully sued the NFL to allow players with only 2 years college experience to enter the draft.

2012-08-17 04:26:09 PM
Well, he wasn't smart enough to get kicked off the team before the deadline for the Supplemental Draft, unlike Josh Gordon. There go his NFL dreams.
