I'm definitely voting for R.H.

Since he was a politician, I hope the boy checked to make sure his watch wasn't missing after.

O'Fallon? That's not far from here, and a pretty derpy area.. a Democrat? (reads more) Ah, he was an educator.

I've always hoped never to need to do CPR on anyone. I used to be an EMT, and I've heard stories about hearing the ribs break and the pops under your fingers as you do it. I mean, that stuff sounds bad enough, but I'd be worried with a 2 year old that it would be like playing with Buffalo Wings where you could cut yourself on the bone splinters from trying some CPR. Maybe they should equip ambulances with baby bags so you don't need to broken Buffalo Wing your fingers?

I always got to remind myself it's "shake hands and kiss babies" and not the other way around.

Good on ya, sir. *tips hat*

Hopefully the parents have learned a very important lesson: A minute is all it takes for toddlers to get into shiat, keep an eye on yours. Glad the kid is ok.

Bystander CPR is what saves lives. EMS can't do shiat unless you keep them pumping until we get there.

Push hard, push fast, and don't stop til the lights and sirens show up.

Their bones are so soft, you just feel a few pops, and the sternum floats. Even in the elderly, it snaps off as the thoracic cartilage between the costals and the sternum, it's just a louder pop.

"What he did was a good thing, and I'm glad he was in the right place at the right time," Hicks said.

I guess the office is too minor to worry about getting an instant Tea Party challenger.

OBVIOUSLY a Democrat. A republican candidate would have either told the kid to stop being so dependent on others to save his life, or stood there by the side of the pool, cackling to himself while watching the kid sink to the bottom.

I don't care what party you are; you save a small kid and I'll congratulate you for that. Then go back to campaigning against you if I think the other candidate(or myself if I'm running) is better on the issues.

That's part of the problem with the Tea Party - they don't want to compromise, they don't want to agree that anybody else can be taking the right action at any time.

Heck, I'll even admit that there are negatives to many of my stances. It's just that I think the positives outweigh them.

Compromise is the fundamental skill of Politics, which is the process of reconcilling opposing viewpoints for a single solution that nobody may like, but can live with.

Teatards, and the Republican Party that caters to them, don't know how to do that. THAT, in my mind, disqualifies them from being able to practice good governance.

This is so... out of the pale for modern Republicans that I'm shocked. It's a good thing, don't get me wrong - good on this guy! But it is amazing because it runs counter to what we expect out of the American Reactionary party.

Yes.

Let's never stoop to the Republicans level. Or worse, get tough with them.

Allowing the GOP to sabotage Carter and spend 30+ years defaming him as the WORST PRESIDENT EVAR? Brilliant!

Allowing the GOP to pin Willie Horton on Michael Dukakis? Wonderful idea! Let's especially not hammer GHW Bush for not remembering he was in Dallas on November 22 1963! That would be uncivil!

Should the Democrats have let Newt Gingrich throw an epic hissyfit over Clinton's adultery? Certainly! It was the 90s, we were supposed to be blase and cynical!

Should John Kerry have let the unfounded Swiftboat allegations fester for weeks back in 2004, thereby allowing a draft-dodger to seize the "patriotic" high ground over a decorated seaman? We sleep well with our consciences clean!

God damn it dude. You don't abide by Marquis of Queensbury rules after your "honorable" opponent has already stabbed you repeatedly.

Enough with the handwringing. The American people hate pussies who refuse to fight back. We love overwhelming force.

I agree wholeheartedly - but keep pumping until someone taps you on the shoulder and says
"we're EMS - we'll take over." Only EMTd for 6 years, but some yards can be looooooooong,
and I've had people stop as you said.

But in general, you're spot on.

Great, now politicians will have people throwing kids into pools so that they can just "conveniently" come by at the right moment. They may not save the kids, but they'll get brownie points for trying.

Really, though, he did a great thing. I need to recertify myself. I have 2 children under 3 and we had some scary moments in the pool this summer while we were NEXT to them. It really doesn't take long.

If by "able-bodied" you mean "hover-round bound blobs of self-loathing completely dependent on medicare and disability payments while scolding/accusing people of stealing their tax dollars, anyone with a hint of self sufficiency, and determination to make their lives better while attempting to become an asset to the nation at large, and hating them for it" I might agree with you.
