ok, prove it. release your returns.

I make decent money and I've never come close to paying 26%.

2012-08-16 04:19:15 PM
Ok. This one.

Come on. We deserve this.

I pay around 40% and don't have the money to make up BS deductions (like a "cattle farm"). Hell I'm going to get remarried just to re-collect the $20k/year I'm getting nailed on since I got divorced. If I can manage to keep it together for 10 years I'll have saved $200k.

/of course pre-nup

pudding7: I make decent money and I've never come close to paying 26%.

As of last year, a single taxpayer wage earner would pay 25% of the amount of income between $34,500 and $83,600, and 28% of the amount between $83,600 and $174,400. So it's not that far-fetched. (Of course, these figures are for taxable income, not gross income, so probably figure something like 1.5X of those amounts for the gross income.)

I think the most recent year is 13.6 or something like that. So I paid taxes every single year. Harry Reid's charge is totally false. I'm sure waiting for Harry to put up who it was that told him what he says they told him. I don't believe it for a minute, by the way. But every year I've paid at least 13 percent and if you add in addition the amount that goes to charity, why the number gets well above 20 percent.

Why bless his heart! He wants the informant and you to know he's giving boat loads of cash to the Mormon church.

The top federal tax bracket is 35%... so, maybe I'm missing the joke here?

I hit 25% one year. Single, living in an apartment, made good money, no deductions at all basically.

Now that I'm married, wife doesn't work, have a mortgage, and one kid on my last tax return ... 7%.

Awesome.

2012-08-16 04:39:18 PM
By my math, Romney's paying atleast 56% in taxes

2012-08-16 04:41:31 PM
Sure, we'll take your word for it, Mitt. It's not like you're a lying sack of crap.
Oh, wait... you are a lying sack of crap.

Exactly. 21% is the highest I've ever paid. Last several years, making good money, it's been 16% and 17% percent of gross.

If you count the money I spent at the bar there were years where my taxes went well above 50%. Just like charitable contributions and fee based religions, bar tabs don't count as taxes, but boy if you did...

When people say they pay 40% are they throwing in SS and medicad?

Thanks for bringing this back up Mitt.

ourbigdumbmouth: When people say they pay 40% are they throwing in SS and medicad?

in all likelihood, yes.

a single person with $400k of taxable income only pays an effective federal tax rate of 29.3% and, if they were in california, an effective rate of 8.7%.

Dear Romney campaign,

Taxes do not work that way. Charity is not a tax. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this fark thread is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, presidency, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm sure Mitt is counting every nickel in a desperate attempt to make the figure as high as possible.

There was that one time I pumped my own gas, so that's like a tax.

Thank you!

I'm taking at least partial credit for urging the mods to green this.

2012-08-16 05:18:12 PM
who here thinks they pay more in taxes than Romney? 13% = a couple of million

Do those of you that pay $400 really want a dog fight?

2012-08-16 05:20:00 PM
I submitted this with a better headline, but had to pay a 40% greenlight tax.

yes, but only because i fight dogs as part of a tax deductible form of stress therapy.

Well Romney has been nothing but honest and forthcoming so far so I have no problem taking him at his word.

I'm glad this settles the issue. Harry Reid should resign. Case closed.

At least he hasn't threatened the electorate with slavery if he loses.

Mitt has been denying the government tax revenue, plain and simple. He closed down businesses, laying off hundreds of people who would be paying taxes, at a much higher rate than him, in all likelihood.

See, all those people whose jobs he destroyed are paying 0%. That's less than his 13%. So what is everyone whining about?

I just don't understand how Romney thinks he can get away with this. Why bother saying anything when you know it won't be believed without the tax returns?

can you imagine all of the jobs he could have kept in america if he weren't forced to pay long-term capital gains taxes? we would still be in the bush boom economy

Just remember that those of us who have to actually work for our money have to pay a much higher tax rate than those who simply let their money "work" for them in investments and the stock market because, well, fark us, we're poor, that's why.

On top of that, I heard the poor can deduct refrigerators and flat screen TVs. It's an outrage!

Today's Republicans are starting to sound a lot like Monarchists.

Every American pays taxes as long as you buy something during the year. 47% of Americans pay zero income taxes AFTER taxes are computed. Many people pay income tax during the year, but get it back at the end of the year.

So, that little tidbit is wrong 6 ways from Sunday.

At least 1500 of those Americans were millionaires. Perhaps Romney was one of them.

2012-08-16 06:04:45 PM
13% is barbaric.

Every night, Romney has to drive home in his luxury SUV, park it in one of his many garages, eat his dinner prepared by an onsite five-star chef, then toddle off to bed to put on his silk, monogrammed Moroccan sleepwear, and pull up his 1,000 thread count Egyptian linen and pray that the next day he can wake up poor and be free of this horrible burden.
