in that both require magical thinking to be believed, yes.

You could call it that, or you could call it what I call it, horsesh*t.

They both pretty much boil down to "f*ck you, I got mine"

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call the '90s a "non-supply side era"

Shorter answer yes with an if. Long answer no with a but.

2012-08-16 03:48:52 PM
it's BS.

tell everyone you know.
Let's try some demand side solutions shall we?

tax cuts for middle/lower incomes
tax incentives for jobs created stateside

those are good ideas. you know who opposes them? the GOP.

What's a three letter word for "yes"?

2012-08-16 03:50:22 PM
Please tell me how cutting personal income creates corporate employment. If you own a small business and you don't protect yourself legally by forming a separate entity then you don't deserve tax incentives because you don't willingly accept legal incentives.

I'll leave the word propserity alone, subs.

The one thing they have in common is a belief that the richer should get richer.

It's mass theft. It is not functionally different than the Soviet state monopoly or medieval Japanese feudalism. Call it the prosperity gospel, call it what you will, wrap it in any high-sounding theoretical framework you like, it is farking theft.

Relative to the other two eras they highlight I don't think it's a stretch.

Pretty much, I think.

Ayn Rand also didn't believe in government at all, and hated compromisers (or "pragmatists") like Mitt and even Paul Ryan.

no shiat. i've actually heard a "christian" try to claim that the whole rich man entering heaven/camel passing through the eye of a needle thing actually means the opposite of what we think - that the "eye of the needle" was actually some large geological feature in ancient israel that many camels could pass through so god was really saying that it's super-duper easy for rich people to enter heaven.

this is actually what he said.

Ayn Rand equated any kind of altruism to committing suicide.

No, really.

Wrong, Ayn Rand believed in the same "minarchist" gibberish that modern American libertarians like to vomit all over the place, a government exclusively and only empowered to wield violence as an enforcement arm for the wealthy and powerful.

You have to be a special brand of stupid to read the New Testament and come away with "Jesus loves rich people best".

I've heard that one, it's right up there with "there's no drinking in the Bible! Everywhere that says 'wine' actually reads 'new wine' in the original Derpamaic which means grape juice! No one in the old world drank alcohol!" nonsense justification for alcohol prohibition.

wow, but how do they get around all the other passages in the bible that aren't so easily twisted?

Do these people watch Little house on the Prairie and come away with the impression that Mrs. Olsen and Nellie were the heros?

But I was told that rich people would create jobs for us even when there was no demand for their products because they like giving their money away.

The prosperity gospel has always been a joke that normal people laughed at. Trickle down however was considered a viable economic policy by many not so bright normal people and it ended up trashing the economy.
