Two things
1. LF at Yankee Stadium in the afternoon is obscenely bright, fly balls get lost often
2. He hit a game-tying 2 run HR in the next inning

Wow... we'd bench somebody on our softball team for doing that.

//It's a competitive team.

Gunny Highway: Jones has been pretty damn good this season.

This. Especially with the bat, though.

The Texas right fielder farked one up in this same game, though I don't know if it was the sky that messed him up.

As someone who doesn't watch baseball, I don't know anything about this guy, so...

Is there something wrong with his face? His upper lip area looks swollen, like he got stung by a bee or something. I did a quick GIS and he looks normal in those pics.

I noticed that on his face too and had to restart the clip thinking maybe he was hit in the face by the ball. But nope, was just dip like others have said.

No, he farked that up because he is a 3B making his first big league start in RF.

When I dip, you dip, we dip.

I haven't thought about that in years, now it's stuck in my head.

Why was that a ground rules double rather than a triple?

Legit lost in the sun, and as mentioned, he belted a game-tying homer his next at-bat.

All that said, this game had yet another example of what I feel to be the glaring weakness of this 2012 Yankees team (well, aside from having so many members of this year's ALL DL Team)...

Rob Thomson.
Why has this man not been fired?
He has one job, and he sucks at it.
I'm not angry. This is my calm voice.
Please fire Rob Thomson.

Di Atribe: This pleases me. Go Rangers.

Meh. If not for the Wonder Twins Boone Logan and Joba Chamberlain, Yanks win this one and Rangers woulda dun got swept. Ah well, I'll take a 3 out of 4 any day. Gotta get the house ready for the Bobby V show coming to town tomorrow.

2012-08-16 07:59:25 PM
Andruw Jones looks a lot like Joe Mauer and why is he playing catcher for the Twins and being white while talking to a brunette?

Oh you think so, eh? Rangers have been swept twice this season & one of those was a 2-gamer, sooooooo.... sweeps are unlikely with us. I'm not really tryin to say, but I'm just sayin.

Andruw Jones goes in the Hall, right? 450 home runs, 10 gold gloves as CF, one of the best players of the 00s, and considered a clean player. That sounds like enough.

Maybe after Jim Edmonds, and Edmonds isn't a lock.

Really? .214 BA? Granted he has 13 homers but only 30 rbi.

I still can't believe how much money he stole from the Dodgers. I would have sued him ... or put a hit on him.

Andruw never cared enough about baseball to use steroids.

He'd be one of the greatest ever if he had the drive of someone like David Eckstein.

He was always nice to me, though.

Ah... that makes sense.

But, to say that Andruw is still "one of the top fielders in the game" is beyond a stretch. He's possibly one of the best left fielders in the game, but that's about it.

If Andruw Jones would have retired before going to the Dodgers, he would probably end up in the HoF. He is one of the few players I can think of that actually played his way out of the HoF (i.e., performance, not a PED issue).

Yeah after he signed that big contract he started eating sammiches 3 at a time.

2012-08-16 10:38:42 PM
when a fly ball is in the sun, you are supposed to turn sideways and catch the ball facing sideways, not directly into the sun. that takes the sun out of your field of vision. that's what they teach in the majors now.

Kinda rough subby....

Im pretty sure he lost the ball in the sun a couple times during those gold glove seasons as well. He isnt a superhero....

Human beings cant see when staring into the sun. Its a scientific fact or something.

Problem is that andruw has been doing stupid shiat for the past 6 years now, he got past his first contract and then turned to shiat after he signed a long term deal, he used to be a 40 HR guy, now you are lucky to get 15 out of the fat ass.

The_Great_Hambino: //Before he got fat and obsessed with HRs

Ironic since he hit more HRs before he got to be huge, I had high hopes for him but he got paid and then sat on his ass all off season them came to camp 35 pounds overweight the first year, 50 the next, farking sad to develop those skill to just waste them.

Bonanza Jellybean: Most of those Gold Gloves were undeserved.

No they werent, he did shiat in atlanta that humans couldnt do, the kid was amazing, then signed his long term deal and gained 50 pounds of fat.

Don't they teach you to use your glove to block out the sun? His glove was down the whole time except at the very last moment and then it was too late. Bad mechanics on his part.

Agreed. He is like the Rasheed Wallace of MLB.

To the people criticizing Andruw for his post-ATL performance: he played in 1761 games in Atlanta. Over 7000 PA.

We forget:
1) He broke into the league at 19 -- lots of mileage on those legs by the time his tenure in ATL ended(he was 31)
2) He doesn't have a body type that says "longevity"

He was arguably the best player in the game(in the discussion anyway) for 10 years from age 21-31. Consider that most players break in around 24 and slow down at 34. Same deal, just he was on an accelerated time table.

Yes to HOF. Especially because he'll probably kick around a few more years, end up hitting 25 out in Cincy or something, and hit 500.

/comp to Bobby Abreu
//more power, way less discipline
//he's a HOF too
////neither probably get in

Yeah, I love andruw but the subby is an idiot.

Hitting 500 HRs doesnt mean much if your BA is .255, he would be the lowest BA to ever get in on the basis of 500 HRs, its highly unlikely he gets in on that basis since he played in a live ball era with most 500 members having .270+ BA.

Andruw is the anti-b*nds, instead of cheating to get ahead he pissed his talent away and ate his way out of the league, for a baseball fan those two are about the same, pissing away talent makes fans angry.

2012-08-17 12:49:31 AM
Oh and Abreu does not even deserve a mention to getting entry into the HOF, he is an average player on good teams.

If you read the slashies, you'd see that I don't believe either will get in. I believe Jones should get in. I don't think Abreu should but I think he's very underrated and closer than you seem to think. Career .400 OBP, 300 HR, 400 SB, scored a ton of runs.

Again, neither probably gets in unless Andruw can sneak in under the "dominant" title like Jim Rice. But Rice's induction was BS.

I thought the funniest part was where he fell on the ground and immediately went into the fetal position.

"Please don't hit me baseball...please don't hit me."

There's losing a ball in the sun and then there's being a pussy.

Wrong. He may have LOOKED impressive at times, because he was slow, had poor range, and played too shallow. Modern statistical methods make it clear that he was as awful as non-Braves fans always suspected.

We have Trayvon Robinson roaming the left field fence these days. He's sixteen points above the Mendoza Line.

What the hell are you talking about? TZ has him as one of the best ever. Even UZR, which we only have data for from 2002 on, has him as a damn good defensive outfielder for his career.
