As much as I hate that it's going to be three years down the road, I know that we have at least one more each of Iron Man, Thor, Cap, and probably Hulk in between. Maybe we'll even get an Ant-Man in there somewhere

Whedon earned my full faith with the first one (my favorite movie of the year, barely beats out TDKR because it was just more fun). I also don't like waiting, but I know the wait will make a better movie.

Aren't they planning a Hawkeye/Black Widow movie too?

Don't forget the TV show. They're milking the fark out of this thing.

While its great that there'll be an Avengers 2 in 2015, it means that Robert Downey, Jr. will be about fifty years old, which is a concern as these movies are already beginning to take a toll.

Just enough movies to establish a new character that Whedon can kill off.

They're going to be James Bond / Doctor Who'ing this anyway. They've already talked about it. Rather than suffer through and endless series of reboots, the actors are just going to be replaced over time.

And with the Avengers and other teams, that could actually work since there are always new teammates.

Well the current plan is to follow the story from the books where Tony turns bad because of brainwashing, dies, and then is replaced with his teenage self from the past.

So, LaBeouf.

Nobody stays dead except for Uncle Ben and Bucky.

I still say Whedon should troll everybody by switching the focus of the movie to the Great Lakes Avengers after the first ten minutes.

I'm hoping they also have time to release "Black Widow goes down on Pepper Pots for an hour forty in 3-D IMAX" before then as well. I predict that will be - by far - the most financially successful of the Avengers Universe movies.

Marvel doesn't own the movie rights to the Fantastic Four, just like they don't own the rights to Mutants (all mutants, I believe, not just X-Men and X-Men enemies) and Spiderman. That's a big reason why no F4 in the Avengers universe.

The Fantastic Four belong to 20th Century Fox.

The whole thing with who owns what comic book properties is a sordid state of affairs. It's why we're getting all these remakes. Next up, Daredevil.

The "plot" for The Avengers was the group getting together and learning how to work together. All the "aliens invade" crap was just the B story.

You try to have lots of characters to introduce and get to know each other and a complicated plot and you'll end up with a mess.

I liked it, but you have to admit, the plot was pretty thin. It basically felt like a 140-minute demonstration of the "who would win in a fight? This guy or this guy?"

I'm sure if I was 12 or into comics, I would have loved it. I thought it was well made, but just okay.

That's true. Maybe he can focus on writing a better ending for the next one? The ass-pull, deus ex machina was a let down.

But the "plot" was the infighting, the arguing, the mistrust etc. The plot was the group getting together. The whole alien invasion was just the Mcguffin to give them a reason to get together and why it was important. You can have the most complicated, in depth, plot but if the characters are 2D nothing characters who you don't care about then it will be a bad film.

And each character had their moments, their time to shine. In the advance publicity some people mocked Black Widow for standing in the Circle of Awesomeness with only two little handguns alongside a freakin god, an indestructible rage machine of unlimited power, a super soldier and a billionaire tech genius in a super suit. By the end of the film no one is in any doubt she is an equal in the team. She (spoiler if there's anyone left who hasn't seen it) plays a god like a violin and neither he, nor us, saw it coming. And we'd seen her do the exact same thing an hour earlier!

And I have never read comics. Any of them. I have no backstory other than random stuff I have read on Fark threads and what I saw in the movies leading up to The Avengers. I didn't even see the Hulk film until after the Avengers, but I still got the Hulk character.

The whole Nuke thing was set up well enough for me not to consider it a DEM. We saw the Council having issues with Fury's plan. The launch of the missile was another genuine threat. Turning it from a threat to a solution isn't a DEM. Start suddenly saying "Hey guys, I have a ICBM inside my building!" would have been a DEM.

The one bit that came close was Selvig saying he had secretly/subconsciously built a weak spot into the shield. But the missile would have won the war without that, just with some nasty fallout covering NY... I would have thought having Loki's staff/The cube being able to break it would have been enough.

Nope!

Marvel just got the rights to DD back. They were working on a deal with Fox to let them hang on to DD in exchange for Surfer and Galactus, but that deal fell through last week. Maybe we'll get a 70s set DD movie that sets up a separate universe for Iron Fist and Cage, maybe even Heroes for Hire.

That moment was telegraphed by its very existence. It was hardly an "oh snap" moment.

If Black Widow could not contribute by gathering information, she would not have been talking to Loki. The scene would have had no purpose. So, sorry to say, if you didn't see that moment coming, you haven't watched a lot of movies.
