Fark World of Warcraft - release the next StarCraft episode...

I mean it - shut that retarded "game" down, completely...

I like the Blizzard meltdown guy's comment. Something along the lines of "I don't want to play as a farking panda!" And then, quieter and sadder, "I'm always a panda already."

I, for one, welcome my fuzzy Asian overlords (and ladies).

While everyone's in panda land, I'll be leveling my 'lock to 90.

I know a lot of people who play WoW in real life. Most of them play for a few years before they realize how much they don't like it. What's really interesting though, is how much the people who do play WoW *dislike* WoW.

I don't understand why it's popular.

Good headline but you forget to mention DRM.

2012-08-16 01:44:21 PM
weak troll-fu headline. MMO: always on connection justified. Hack-and-slash: always on connection not justified.
And having run two lan parties in the last 18 months, I'll just leave a big FARK YOU to the d-bags who counter-whine about the lan play issue. You're not interested? Fine - just move aside and stop talking shiat about those of us who have a good god damn reason to care.

They're introducing a new form of DRM called a "CD Key".

I watched the cinematic trailer and though "hmm...maybe I'll subscribe and try it out for a month or so."

And then I watched the dungeons/raids trailer and said "hmm...i know exactly what i'd be missing. nevermind."

Because once you play for a few months/years, you have a heavy financial and time investment in it, so you keep playing to justify the costs you've incurred.

I played wow a lot some years ago, but quit when it became nothign more then a gear treadmill, and a rep grind. Any sort of challenge was casual ed out of the game.

At those who talk crap because a feature is important to us? I suppose you'd be cool if WoW decided to do something that broke a huge portion of the way you play the game for no good reason?

Yes, self-centered morons who believe others' concerns are innately unimportant annoy me.

With the failure of SWTOR and the upcoming peak of MoP amd subsequent drop off, I declare MMOs are done for the time being. There won't be a new WoW until some upstart company with a cool idea and enough word of mouth gets around and it really takes off.

Blizzards TITAN will flop, if its ever even released. Yes MMOs are dead. Lord British says 00oooo0000oooo. At best WoW will keep going but will never be what it once was, a shadow of its former self. GW2 and LoL are beset by a terrible community of sick and twisted youth who poison all they commu icate with.

Its a dark time for MMOs. The new console generation will be the hammer that falls onto the deteroiated pillars of massive online gaming.

The death knell was merely mewling, but its time has come and no a blaring Urraaaooouuuu is winded every time a subscription gets cancelled.

Like arenas?

You know, there's a new technology being developed in sub-Saharan Africa that will allow you to simply not play games that you don't enjoy.

Okay, the cinematic does look pretty cool, but I'm wondering about the beginning - when the human sharpens a stick. You already have a sword, why are you going to put it away in favor of a long, pointy stick? No wonder you dumbasses lost Lordaeron.

/haven't played in years

I spent my time in WoW (launch to Cataclysm). I had a billion alts, raided to server firsts, did more than my fair share of grinding, PvP'd in all it's forms, went super casual, and even RP'd.

But it's lost its luster for me, I've been unsubscribed for almost a year and inactive for much longer. I can't imagine Blizzard doing anything that would bring me back.

I've been playing since the end of vanilla wow and the dawn of BC. I've played every expansion and casually raided them all. The game has only gotten better and richer and I'll be enjoying MoP as much as its predecessors. I love playing, I don't care how "easy" people think its gotten or that its gone from fantasy orcs to space goats to elf demons to dapper werewolves to fireball monsters to Fabio undead to furry role play with pandas - I still love it and I'll play it. Later Haters.

Monthly service fee MMOs are dying.

Free to play/pay to win are ascending now.

Yes! I've found this brilliant technology, and use it quite often! And there are also a whole slew of new technologies- email, message boards, review commentary, etc. - that provide consumers with unprecedented levels of capability to let developers know WHY they aren't purchasing these otherwise brilliant games!

Too bad we haven't developed the technology to cure self-centered douchenzzlery, it might be of great assistance to those in your unfortunate condition...

(If you honestly don't care about a feature, how f*cking hard is it to shut your damn mouth about it and enjoy the game rather than being a d*ck to those that DO care?)

Eh, I'll just sit this one out. Panda's aren't really what bothers me per se, but I do get the feeling that they're sort of mailing it in as far as content in this one.... and I'm simply not overly interested in anything else the xpac offers... though min range removal on hunters is pretty sweet.

I think ToR was one of the most compartmentalized MMO's I've played. Nothing about it had an open world feel to it really. Played a month, got bored, and simply won't go back, even when it goes F2P.

GW2 has the same zone thing going on, but it's not so immediately apparent, so I wonder how long it will take me to get annoyed at it.

I played WoW long enough to level up one guy to the max, then I quit. Ever since, I always get the expansions, level that same guy up to the max, then quit again. It's long enough between expansions, and they change enough each time that it's almost like a new game every couple years.

That is what I disliked about it, too. It took SO long to go from one zone to another, between all the long loading of worlds and docking at space ports to go to planets that had 20 people on them. Plus, there was no world pvp to speak of.

They should have just made Kotor 3. The singleplayer-ness of the game was absolutely top notch. I just couldn't take all the loading.

And i absolutely hate F2P. What I like about MMOs is immersing myself in another world and nothing breaks down the 4th wall more than game stores and stupid game coins and buying content to progress. Its stupid.

I agree MMOs are in a decline right now but since Mass Effect series has ended, there is a void in RPGs so maybe we'll see more of them.

Implying a true Pokemon in 3D isn't something fans have wanted for a very, very long time. This may not be true, but it's damn close and something I'm excited to try out.

/Yes, I realize Stadium and all those are in 3D, but none have ever allowed you to actually move around in the world and capture/battle in the field.
/As for the Pandas: as if bipedal cows/wolves, walrus men, snake people, fungus monsters, and space mummies made sense to begin with.

"We have an opportunity that is unprecedented in the history of modern thought. We can create an entirely new culture from scratch. We can give it its own history, its own rules, its own philosophies and styles and art, and we can bring it to life with a level of detail that is truly astonishing. Then we can allow the entire world to visit it and live in it. They can have adventures. They can live alternate lives there. This could be the ultimate act of creation! We are not bound by any limitations of the real world!"

"I know! Let's take some pandas and give them lots of Chinese cultural stereotypes! You know, like they do kung fu and like jade and dragons and shiat!"

"Brilliant! Let's do it!"

Yea. Because offering an opinion so other people who may have similar tastes and interests can consider it is just stupid. Clearly nobody should ever share their opinion on anything as it can have no value to anyone else ever.

I usually don't mind the zoning. It often gives me time to go get a new beer. On a related topic, I had that when you get finished with a heroic you don't immediately go back to where you were. Several times I have logged out for the night instead of wanting to go through the pain in the ass to get back to the zone I was in.

Did you play GW1? For all its (massive, glaring and inexcusable) faults, the zoning didn't really bother me because it just seemed like "that's how it was made". Basically ran from level to level with some neat 3D chatrooms between them.

Gave up on WoW a long time ago, pretty much gave up on all MMOs, the found The Secret World, with actual complex puzzles to solve, an awesome in-game story, no pre-defined builds, etc.

Worth giving a go if you're into storyline MMOs at all.

Fantastic.

There were a lot of things that SWTOR almost did right, or could have done right. The biggest problem with it by far was the constant, glaring missed opportunities or poor design choices.

redmond24: I watched the cinematic trailer and though "hmm...maybe I'll subscribe and try it out for a month or so."

And then I watched the dungeons/raids trailer and said "hmm...i know exactly what i'd be missing. nevermind."

Don't bother with raids, then. I really took my time leveling and twinked my main character many times so I could enjoy the content of each expansion. I did have my nose to the glass like a kid at a candy shop. So, I finallyI did lots of dungeons (which I enjoy) and rep grinding so I could raid. Jeeze Louise, raids are tedious. You sit there for three hours of scapegoating and QQ over loot. Then, you have nothing to show for it but three hours of lost time, a sore butt and a huge repair bill.

A friend has the Pandaria beta. I spent most of my time creating characters, running all the emotes and looking at the new scenery and special effects. It'll be fun.

2012-08-16 02:52:50 PM
I've played through the Pandaren starting area in the beta, and I was actually very pleasantly surprised. It was fun and actually engaging learning the Pandaren lore and whatnot. I think this is really the first time in WoW that Blizzard has been able to build something from the ground up, without retconning the crap out of it.

That said, I haven't played the beta since, so I can't speak for the dungeons and/or raids.
