Look at that, you scrambled in here so quick to be the first to shout "REPEAT" you forgot to even read the article.

HopScotchNSoda: The fundraising goal is less than a mil? What the hell kind of museum can you create for such a tiny sum? What am I missing in this equation?

Good lord.

They're buying the PROPERTY that the WardenClyffe Tower ruins is on! The property is for sale for 1.6MIL or something. The fundraiser is paying for HALF the property value. A NonProfit that's been trying to secure the property for some time has the other half, as donated by the State of New York. This does NOT build the museum! This saves the WardenClyffe Tower ruins from being knocked down for development, and restores the property! It will make it official historic ground, unable to be developed in the future!

First steps and all that!

Oatmeal presented the case so extraordinary good. I was reading it on my phone and I simply couldn't stop myself from scrolling down like under a spell.

Considering all the things people want me to know each and every second that really caught my attention and that is very rare since my computer-game damaged brain discards information faster than it can go in.

That's cool all around, but damn that's an odd name. "Elon Musk" sounds like a cheap cologne

Since this property is less than 8 miles from my house, this is relevant to my interests.

I was driving on 25A one day and saw a sign that said "Tesla St". Being a nerd and knowing of Tesla, and knowing he was once in the area I looked around to see if there was anything Tesla-ish aside from the sign. I saw through the trees the remains of his lab and was surprised to see it was still standing. There were signs up about it being a superfund site and a cleanup going on so I didn't stick around to get radiated or anything, my wife would be pissed if I came home all green like the Hulk. I've followed it on and off and hoped that somebody would have done something about it, I guess now is the time.

kroonermanblack: Why do you do this?

Your name is pixels away, surely you can't think people who might remotely give a shiat are so clinically retarded that they can't master the intricacies of 'look a teeeeeny bit up, but stop at the blue bar' to find you name?

to prove he's old school, and to troll you.

Ringshadow: If they're smart they'll increase the limit or start a second limit that will fund the museum itself.

If this operates like the Bear Love Good Cancer Bad campaign the goal isn't really a limit; it will keep going until the 45 days run out. The original statement already detailed that even with the goal they hoped they could buy the property for cheaper than the current asking price and any overages (including beyond the goal) will go towards the remodeling and operation of the museum.

I'd love to see them rebuild the tower--better yet a functional one!

I've been watching it since it got on Fark yesterday. Three perks sold out and one about to. That said from what I can tell it's at least slowed down a bit. But hey, I'm sure more geeks will get paychecks soon and this will finish well, WELL before the 45 day clock.

If they're smart they'll increase the limit or start a second limit that will fund the museum itself.

/I hope they rebuild the skeletal tower
//I'll probably donate again in a few weeks

The ode to Tesla for Colorado Springs (where he had a huge laboratory) is a small bronze plaque next to the road at Memorial Park (where said laboratory used to exist). That's it. Nothing more. Sad, I tell ya.

KatjaMouse: Woops. There goes the Bumper sticker/shirt/tote perk. Looks like you're out of luck if you wanted something more than a $25 photo but didn't quite have $500 to contribute.

I have a feeling they'll add more perks soon.

KatjaMouse: Huh. He actually sold out of one of the offered perks. Now there are people lamenting in the comments how they wanted to kick in $50 for a shirt and bumper sticker.

I was going to wait until I got home to contribute, until I realized how close they were to even running out of the photos. I don't even care about a damn 8x10 photo, I could print one of my own, but wait, you mean I might not get one if I wait?!

I like the idea of a Tesla Museum but I want to see it in Niagara Falls, seeing as:

1. Tesla's best idea which came to fruition--tapping the Falls for cheap clean electric power--still works every day;
2. Millions of tourists from all over the world come to Niagara Falls as it is;
3. All the stuff on the American side is cheap touristy stuff, the Tesla museum would be a real honest draw;
4. We've already got the Tesla statue, which is cool enough in its own right that last time I was there I saw a line several people deep just wanting to take a picture of it;
5. Look man, Tesla is cool. Niagara Falls is cool. And da Falls hasn't exactly had a great run economically of late, which not only means we need it, it means we can build it cheaper.

It's only been five minutes and they've thrown down an additional $2.5k to $433,030.

That's... quite the fundraising rate.
