eh, I can spare $10 for this. Hopefully they get a few million and can start on the restorations proper.

The fundraising goal is less than a mil? What the hell kind of museum can you create for such a tiny sum? What am I missing in this equation?

Good lord.

They're buying the PROPERTY that the WardenClyffe Tower ruins is on! The property is for sale for 1.6MIL or something. The fundraiser is paying for HALF the property value. A NonProfit that's been trying to secure the property for some time has the other half, as donated by the State of New York. This does NOT build the museum! This saves the WardenClyffe Tower ruins from being knocked down for development, and restores the property! It will make it official historic ground, unable to be developed in the future!

First steps and all that!

Why do you do this?

Your name is pixels away, surely you can't think people who might remotely give a shiat are so clinically retarded that they can't master the intricacies of 'look a teeeeeny bit up, but stop at the blue bar' to find you name?

The Third Man: I like the idea of a Tesla Museum but I want to see it in Niagara Falls, seeing as:

1. Tesla's best idea which came to fruition--tapping the Falls for cheap clean electric power--still works every day;
2. Millions of tourists from all over the world come to Niagara Falls as it is;
3. All the stuff on the American side is cheap touristy stuff, the Tesla museum would be a real honest draw;
4. We've already got the Tesla statue, which is cool enough in its own right that last time I was there I saw a line several people deep just wanting to take a picture of it;
5. Look man, Tesla is cool. Niagara Falls is cool. And da Falls hasn't exactly had a great run economically of late, which not only means we need it, it means we can build it cheaper.

Silly Americans and charging money to see the falls from the crappy side. Come to the Canadian side for actual fun tourist traps, water parks, 2 casinos, and the best view of the falls for free.

Since this property is less than 8 miles from my house, this is relevant to my interests.

I was driving on 25A one day and saw a sign that said "Tesla St". Being a nerd and knowing of Tesla, and knowing he was once in the area I looked around to see if there was anything Tesla-ish aside from the sign. I saw through the trees the remains of his lab and was surprised to see it was still standing. There were signs up about it being a superfund site and a cleanup going on so I didn't stick around to get radiated or anything, my wife would be pissed if I came home all green like the Hulk. I've followed it on and off and hoped that somebody would have done something about it, I guess now is the time.

As someone who actually discovered the awesome that was Nikola Tesla via a certain geeky hair-metal band in the 80s, I also approve. :3 (Yes, to the point of actually hunting down a copy of the book "Man Out Of Time", even. Still have it, in fact.)

/yes, kids, hard rock can actually be educational! :D

I gave a non-trivial sum, didn't want any "gift", and selected anonymous.

Never understood the concept of premiums in exchange for donations. Just give to the case and leave it at that.

Geez. It's almost at 500k. I hope this means the extra money for the museum will make it hands-on and awesome.

Did you miss the part about how his original Wardenclyffe lab is *still standing* and can be rebuilt? I doubt it would be easy to move. I'm not against the idea of a Tesla monument or museum at Niagara. But while Wardenclyffe stands, its the most obvious choice, if there's to be one. And currently, there is NO Tesla museum anywhere in the U.S. Further, Wardenclyffe is vulnerable right now, and could be razed forever; it's a small miracle it's still there at all. While it stands, I think we owe it to Tesla's legacy to first preserve and rebuild his own lab.
