(Sports Illustrated)   29 year old QB available with 79.2 passer rating last season on 3,091 yards thrown, with good mobility. Any teams out there with a future HOF receiver and nobody to throw to him? Who play in a crappy city in the desert, perhaps?   (tracking.si.com) divider line 102

What I love about this headline is that I thought two things:

"Kevin Kolb threw for over 3,000 yards?" and "wait, Kolb already plays in Arizona."

/Jackson would be an upgrade for them

I can't imagaine getting anything better than a 6th rounder for him, even though $4mil is a pretty reasonable pricetag.

He would be if Flynn had been more expensive. We'd be hoping to make the playoffs on the backs of our defense and Lynch. It'd probably not be that bad, frankly.

That's only 43 points behind Aaron Rodgers! That makes him a top 25 Quarterback! In fact he's 5 points in passer rating better than Josh Freeman, who as we all know is a "top 5 QB".

Hey, whatever happened to Jeff George?

Seriously though, I felt sorry for Tarvaris, but he's damaged goods now. He's had his chance.

He did do all that with a torn pectoral last season.

The Eagles probably love the players they got out of the deal, Michal Kendricks and Dominique Rogers-Cromartie.

The point is, if either is your QB, you're in for a long season.. long as in how horrible it is to watch, not long as in beyond 16 games.

TJ ain't that bad. I don't get the constant knocks on the guy to be frank. There's 32 starters and 32 backups in the league. But everyone wants to have aaron rodgers with tom brady backing him up - anything less and it's 'he sucks!'.

No. You see somebody like Alex Smith or say Flacco is not great like Rodgers, but under the right circumstances you could possibly win a superbowl with.

Tavaras simply sucks.

I absolutely agree that not everyone will be Rodgers, but if you're relying on TJ to take you to the promise land you're team is pretty much farked.

If the only stat you look at is passer rating, yes.

1,955 yds, 9TD, 8INT is pretty shiatty.

TJack is certainly not elite, but 3,000yds, 60% completion, 14td, 13int certainly isn't sucking. Especially when you consider that he did it with a trorn throwing pec.

That's a reach at best. Kolb sqeaked out qb rating but that's about it. And you seem to count missing 8 games for injury as ablolutely not a factor. It is and it's a rather large one. Kolb had 9 td's and 8 picks. TJ had 14 and 13 as well as a higher completion percentage. TJ ain't Johnny Unitas but I'd rather have him than kolb any day of the week.

In today's NFL those numbers suck. He's about the 20th best QB in a league with about 12-15 good QBs.

maybe, maybe not. But you have to field a team and play the games and win as many of them as you can even if your team's destiny is not to have a top ten guy this year. Me, I'd rather have tj than kolb as I think he has more upside. they're pretty comparable numerically of late I just have a feeling tj can get better and we've seen all kolb has to offer. I could be wrong of course.

Jackson is 16 months older (29 v 28) and has had starting gigs in two places.

I don't see much upside to either of them.

Fair enough. I honestly think the two are probably a toss-up, which sucks for Arizona if that's what your choices have come down to.

Fair enough, I'm just more forgiving or perhaps realistic. I think they both fit in the 'fair' category. There's like five guys everyone absolutely wants and five more guys almost all would be pretty happy to have and maybe five more the have nots have reason to believe can become one of those top ten guys. That leaves another 17 or so teams who are gonna have to make do and I think TJ and probably kolb as well are two of those guys. We all can't drive ferraris.

In a run-happy offense with a decimated O-Line and a torn pec, they're pretty good. When you consider how the team as a whole is developing as well, he was probably in for a better season this year. I gotta say, as a Seahawk fan, if we had passed on Flynn and Wilson was still developing (as he is), I'd have very little problem with T-Jack starting this year. As it is, he's the most expensive QB, so he's out.

I cringed when Paul Allen hired a two time failure to coach the Seahawks...and then he just pulled the same shiat again with the Blazers.

2012-08-16 02:19:37 PM
Huh. i thought we gave up DRC and two draft picks for Kolb. It was "only" DRC and this year's second rounder.

either way, if we once again are left to scrounge the waiver wire for a QB, then Bidwill should tell Whiz and Graves, playoff run or GTFO. Not playoff game, but playoff run. otherwise, we're not going into the 2013 season once again searching for a QB.

It's not like Jackson is a huge upgrade. But Jackson put up his numbers without Larry Fitzgerald to throw to (and with a torn pectoral muscle). And he's cheaper. And at least Seattle realizes he isn't "the guy" (though apparently Arizona's ready to give up on Kolb, too).

Stat-wise Kolb was a bit better last year. But my feeling is that TJ is a modicum of improvement at the position over Kolb. I got to watch a lot of TJ last year and to my surprise, he is not a terrible QB.

The other team I could think of is JAX. TJ is much better than Blaine Gabbert. Chad Henne ain't good either.

/really I just wanted to get an NFL related thread going today. Soccer sucks.

He got moved so Matt Jones could play QB. And he ended up (briefly) in the NFL as a WR.
Go figure.

Basically, if I had to pick a QB to run my team in a life-or-death game, (and I'm assuming the person wants there to be a really solid chance of my death, because my choices are Tarvaris or Kolb...) I'm taking Jackson.

2012-08-16 02:23:48 PM
Basically, most Seahawks fans who watched Jackson play last year have come into this thread and said "he doesn't really suck that bad - he's not great but he's serviceable." No one has said anything even to that level of praise about Kolb.

2012-08-16 02:24:09 PM
I like Tarvaris Jackson. He's tough, he plays through injury, and he's a guy that can get you to about .500. I believe had he started the Browns game last year, SEA would have been 8-8.

However, I am almost dead sure that eventually, Flynn and Wilson can both be better than that.

But I like the guy and I feel bad for him not being able to process a defense quickly.

2012-08-16 02:25:25 PM
Trade him to the Yankees.

I think they'd have gone 9-7 (with the idea that they wouldn't have had the incentive to lose to Arizona to get a better draft pick in the season finale).

2012-08-16 02:26:48 PM
As a Redskins fan, I decided to see how those numbers compared with the two-headed beast that was our starting QB corps last season (Grossman & Beck):

RG 3 and out: QBR 72.4, 3151 Yards, 57.9% Completion 16TD 20INT
Beck: QBR 72.1, 858 Yards, 60.6% Completion 2TD 4INT

It seems that Tavaris or Kolb would have been just as good, if not better. Now you know why the team gave up a metric ass load to get RGIII

Well he couldn't really stay at USC considering what was coming down the pipe thanks to the Reggie Bush situation.

Also, FWIW if I was going to make a move for a Qb whose team is ditching him for the next hot thing, I'd go with Matt Moore

I'm pretty sure they tried to win that game, but Fitzgerald and the fact that Tarvaris couldn't drive them past midfield in OT stopped that from happening.
