Hell of a game last night. Leake threw a gem and the Reds bats were on fire. Especially impressive against a Cy Young candidate.

Anyone denying the Reds are a contender, especially with how they've played without Votto, is a troll or a hater.

Can't disagree - Pirates fan and they're not catching the Reds - just hoping to hold on and battle for one of the Wild Cards.

You forgot the Dusty factor. Any team with Dusty Baker as manager can automatically be assumed to not be a contender, no matter how good they are playing.

It must be nice for Votto to know that he doesn't have to come flying back from meniscus surgery

I'll be honest, as a Reds fan I penciled in this game as a loss about a week ago, once I saw it was Leake vs Dickey. But then Leake goes and throws a game like this. Well god damn it, if he pitched like that even just half the time he'd be a decent number 3 or 4 pitcher for most teams. Every time I'm ready to give up on Mike Leake, he goes out and throws a 4 hitter against a good team (ok, maybe not in this instance), and then gets a big hit in the same game.

Other than that inexplicable 5 game losing streak where nothing went right, the Reds have been playing amazingly well since the all star break. Well, amazingly well the last 3 months really. One might even say they've been playing like some sort of machine... a large one, maybe that's also painted red.

That's what we'll call them, the Large Painted Red sort of Machine. I think it'll catch.

Leake has pitch pretty good this year....won't win a lot of games if you only get around 2 runs a game in support
