He's really back at this actual policy stuff. Mitt does better without specifics, it's what his campaign was designed for. Good job farking that up, now we get to talk about Paul Ryan killing Medicare for the next three months.

The DNC thanks you. The President can keep talking about the economy, which voters actually care about, and just repeat the phrase 'kill Medicare' endlessly.

FTA: "If you are going to restore (Obama's cuts), then what it's going to do is complicate the financial condition of Medicare," said former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker, a fiscal conservative who says government health care programs are too costly.

"It's going to affect your long-term plan to reform Medicare and reduce the deficit and mounting debt burdens," said Walker, now heading the Comeback America Initiative, which promotes deficit reduction.

"If you are going to put that back, then how are you going to pay for it?" he asked.

Do go on...

(FTFA, natch)

I find it maddening when a viewpoint, opinion, talking point, etc. is expressed and isn't supported by further reason, rationale, or facts difficult to debate and easy to source. WHY, Mr. Former Comptroller General David Walker, would restoring the cuts complicate the financial condition of Medicare, WHAT sort of complication are we looking at? WHERE is your logic, and upon what foundation is it placed?

Because a "fiscal conservative" who also feels that government health care programs are "too costly" sounds very much like the right man with the wrong idea who said the wrong things when the wrong people were listening. It reads like personal opinion, as well as in-line with the party-line, and a former gov't employee, not to mention a comptroller general, well, Mr. David Walker didn't come out of the blue or just volunteer himself. He can be a sacrificial lamb, a tool for the party. He doesn't stand to lose anything, and he can catch all the heat and deflect criticism of his view on Medicare by pointing out what he saw in his career as CompGen.

I really hope I'm not that cynical and silly sounding.

"Gov. Romney's plan is to repeal Obamacare and replace it with patient-centered reforms that control cost throughout the health care system and extend the solvency of Medicare,"

That little gem right there is a talking point directly from Frank Luntz of Fox News. He came up with that one on one of his beloved study groups. What it tells me is the Rmoney campaign does not have a plan but they damn sure know what to call it. That little phrase means nothing but it polls well so repeat it often. I can't recall any presidential candidate that had so little substance ever.

Eh, her point (in context) is valid. The idea that repealing the Medicare cuts would bankrupt the program would only be true if Romney's replacement never passes. That would likely bankrupt Medicare much faster.

433: WHY, Mr. Former Comptroller General David Walker, would restoring the cuts complicate the financial condition of Medicare, WHAT sort of complication are we looking at? WHERE is your logic, and upon what foundation is it placed?

Medicare has a 'trust fund'. When our spending is more than our income, we deplete that 'trust fund'. We are on pace to have that trust fund run out - and experience an interruption in service - in 2024. Were spending to go up the $711 billion over the next decade because the PPACA spending cuts were repealed, we would run out in 2016. This is explained in the third paragraph.

But Obama's cuts were not directly aimed at Medicare's 48 million beneficiaries; instead they affect hospitals, insurers, nursing homes, drug companies and other service providers. Simply undoing the cuts would restore higher payments to those service providers. And that would cause Medicare to spend money faster.

Assholes. The lot of them.

It was brought up in another thread by a better poster, but I am hoping a Fark Con has an answer.

Why was Paul Ryan a person with:
- No Business Experience
- No Executive Experience

Selected if not for his slash and burn Medicare Plan that Romney will not in anyway be using.

Specifically, they mostly are aimed at providers that provide shiatty service. If they improve their service, their payments don't get cut.

Easy critical writer guy. Have some tact and decorum. Mitt has established the fact talking about anything he has done, may do, or plans on doing is off limits. You can comment on his full, luxurious hair, his charming smile and his alleged love of laughing and practical jokes. Any other talk regarding Mitt is mean and hurts his feelings. And it's not fair to be critical of a candidate anyway. Look at the GOP's long record of civil, intelligent campaigns.

*sigh* No, no it is not. Social Security can be "fixed" or "saved" by doing one simple thing.

(Now you might want to sit down for this, because I know it is going to shock you and I wouldn't want you to fall down and hit your head.)

Social Security, including Medicare, can be saved by ... raising taxes. I know, I know it is shocking, it is unthinkable, it is the moral and responsible thing to do, but hey when have Republicans ever been moral or responsible?

2012-08-16 10:19:16 AM
This is going to sound more tinfoil-tastic than I want it to, but at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the whole idea.

Either that, or Romney and Ryan are the two stupidest people in history, even when counting Bush, Palin and Beta Plus.

You'd think that such an accomplished businessman would understand the whole "money in, money out" equation.

2012-08-16 10:19:58 AM
By bankrupting Medicare and/or Social Security, republicans can say "see, its bankrupt, it doesn't work" and then start handing out vouchers for 1 annual checkup based on prices in 1984 (because Reagan) and a free frosty.

The Mitt Romney Coast Guard:

*man calls over radio about another man overboard*

*CG managers calculate the risk of sending chopper in, agree the risk is worth it if a major profit is involved, chopper is sent*

*Chopper arrives, rescuer lowered into water next to man*
Man: Oh, thank god for you all! Thank you! Please, help me!
CG: That's what we're here for sir. *hands him coupon*
Man: The fark is that?
CG: Oh, this is a highly valuable and completely equal coupon for hiring a rescue service.
Man: But you can help me right now! You're already here! You've been here - it's what you're for! You're really good at what you do!
CG: Sir, you don't understand. These people do the exact same thing as we do. It's a coupon! They can rescue you with this! Our manager assures you it's even better than if we just rescued you here, now.
Man: Just help me! You're already here! You rescue people very well!
CG: Listen - you can get rescued with this coupon! It'll get you rescued - just not by us because of our philosophy. You understand.
Man: I don *drowns*

*rescuer is retrieved, chopper returns to base*

CG Manager: We did the people's work here today, gentlemen. Look at the marginal savings!
