Had to be one of those old split-rim wheels..

I saw a wreck years go, where some guy in an old Ford pickup clipped a curb, overcorrected, and the truck ended up on its side. One of the split rims let go, and the metal ring shot up in the air, and it was a good five seconds before it hit the pavement!

There was an old urban legend we'd tell when I was a teen about a guy who tried to stab a tire and the force of the air blast blew the knife right back at him and stabbed him in the neck.

/slash, don't stab

Looks like his left arm almost got amputated. Blood everywhere where his arm lands and you can see it split wide open.

I don't know. Ending up shirtless and having a quick lie down after a good blow job is fairly standard, isn't it?

If that tire is anything like the tires on my work truck, the back tires are at 85psi. Thats a lot of boom all at once.

Read the comments and watched the video, and I still don't know what the hell I'm looking at. What happened? (Did the tire explode or something)

It seems that he succeeded in puncturing the tire, so I'd say the score is 1:1.

The tire doesn't seem to deflate.
Tire wins!

Well, it looks like the guy is trying punch a hole in the tire, and it goes horribly wrong. I'm not exactly sure how, but he cuts the fark out of his arm. Notice his right arm when he gets up off the ground - he leaves a pool of blood on the ground and wraps his jacket around his arm while he walks away.

I'm guessing that whatever sharp object he was using was blown out of his hand and cut his arm.

I think he put is left arm on the tire while trying to stab it with the right. When it let go he raked/broke his arm on the wheel well as he was spun around. The blood is either from a real deep laceration or a compound fracture. Those heavy duty truck tires are nothing to sneeze at. As someone said above, they can be like 80-120 PSI.

I had no idea that there was split rim tires. One day while working on a ranch I had to change tires on the hay wagon. They were all split rims, and when the first one separated and put half the rim through the metal roof of the shop I decided not to mess with them ever again.

2012-08-16 12:36:45 PM
Doesn't really look old enough to be a split rim, also it doesn't come apart. More likely it's an E rated or higher load tire. I had a 91 F250 with E rated 33" tires on 15" rims. Recommended pressure was 80 psi cold. A volume of air that large on 80 psi will just about knock you on your ass and rip your shirt off in an explosive decompression event. Not sure where you'd find someone stupid enough to try it though...

In China one of the few ways to force public officials to give you their attention is threatening to commit tirecide.

I'd call that more of a double OK subs.

Yet another reason to fuss over proper tire inflation.

Can't tell what he did with his left arm (it's off-frame) but he clearly uses his right arm to stab the tire and it is his right arm that is cut open. If you imitate the movements you would make to stab a tire to your left using your right hand while bent over, it becomes apparent that the knife got blown upwards out of his hand and spun around to cut his forearm, which is exactly what we see in the video.

Split rims are very common in Asia. I agree, this looks like just a tire with a high PSI. Split rims usually rip people apart pretty good when they get hit. There is a reason why professional tire service people change large tires in a tire cage.

Don't fark with truck tires.

I was thinking his arm got cut open due to cavitation by the high pressure air stream. OUCH. People die every year from playing around with power tool hoses, or using them to dust themselves clean.

I was thinking more that the knife and the hand it was attached to became a high speed projectile launched from the tire, giving him a nice greenstick. Hand pushes knife in, air pushes hand and knife out. Fast.
