If know it doesn't matter what any rock musician says as most of them are drug addled, selfish and self-absorbed, but how much farther can he go before he's Sid Barrett?

He'll be munching on his hair on stage and talking about the alien revolt any day now.

I think it would be worthwhile to conduct a largish poll to see how many Americans agree with him.

His theory may sound crazy, but the NRA has been essentially pushing this line for a while and would be loath to denounce him, so the polling numbers would probably be higher than most sane people would think possible.

2012-08-16 06:26:17 AM
It seems like a lot of people concerned with gun control/their guns being taken away either come off as somewhat mentally unstable and shouldn't have guns, or doesn't really have a good reason to have guns. Motherfarking Mustaine can afford to hire a security detail if he's worried about his personal safety, and he sure as hell shouldn't be allowed near a gun in his state of mind.

Unless he's planning to shoot Lars and Hetfield in the kneecaps, then give Dave a .22 gun.

No, I don't. I'm not keen on crackpots in general. You may find this hard to believe, but just because I'm a liberal does not mean that I get my information from angry blogs. Crazy, right?

However, while I find Kos and ThinkProgress to often be whiny to the point of nails on a chalkboard, I still don't think they're anywhere near as divorced from reality as some of the disturbingly popular right wing sites. Sorry man. It's not because I lean left; it's because there's a difference between posting (usually) contextual video evidence of a claim and then vaginating over it (merely annoying) vs: OMG FEMA'S COMING FOR US AND HERE'S FIVE PARAGRAPHS OF MY PARANOID FANTASIES TO PROVE IT!!bbq

Sad thing is, Dave used to be a very Liberal guy, even was a very Dem-friendly correspondent for MTV News at the Democratic Convention in 1988. Now he's neck-deep in the Derp, or he's trying to pull a Reverse Dixie Chicks, which is even sadder than his just being a right-wing nutjob.

Regardless, the Left will ignore his Derp as the rantings of a wannabe Ted Nugent, and most on the Right will ignore him because he's still a long-haired freak singing that Devil Music. The only way Mustaine can make this work is if he shuts down Megadeth, and puts out a Country Gospel album, while renouncing the entirety of his musical career thus far and tosses in some good, old fashioned hatred for Obama.

Ironically, I take his opinions seriously.

We need to have an intervention with Dave Mustaine:

"Dave, we, your fans, have something to say to you. In the last few years you have become a totally different person, and have hurt us very deeply. You've let your current lifestyle destroy the music you make. Dave, we really want you to get back on the heroin."

Sounds like the worst conspiracy ever.

"Okay, we can't try to take away their guns until next year - I'll lose the election if I try it now. So, we will have a couple of mass-shootings NOW, and hope everyone remembers them a year from now."

If this happened soon after Obama's reelection, then the scenario would at least be...well, the word I want isn't 'plausible'...not 'rational'...uh...

Anyway, to say that these things happened now as part of a conspiracy to ban guns at some indeterminate point in the future is even more retarded than a 'normal' conspiracy theory.

2 things...I went on a rock autobiography tear and Dave Mustaine's was perhaps the worst. You know that one friend who CANNOT GET OVER THEIR EX? That's him. 75% of the book was him whining about being kicked out of Metallica. 20% was him crying b/c he couldn't outsell Metallica. 5% was him bragging about his drug use. Apparently the last part was all about finding Jesus but I didn't make it that far and I'm almost pathological about finishing every book I start.

The other thing. Rightwingers are obsessed with Obama taking their guns. Don't they know thanks to him they can carry in national parks? Don't they remember that guy who brought the rifle to Obama's Arizona appearance? There was a guy in New Hampshire too. Nothing happened to them. What do they think would've happened if some guy did the same at a Bush rally? What does the NRA rate Obama?

What irritates me is that some right wing assclown shoots up a temple, and rather than condemn it and those who spread the hateful vitriol that help lead to such acts, assholes like this BLAME OBAMA.

I mean really, are you farking kidding me? Fark you, Dave.

Carn: He's still putting out good music, although I'd say Endgame was way better than Thirteen. Millenium of the Blind Is the coolest off the new one, but looking at the lyrics you gotta wonder about Dave's grasp of recent history and current events.

Here's the last one from Endgame - The Right to Go Insane which is pretty awesome. That album is pretty reminiscent of Symphony of Destruction.

I thought This is how the Story Ends was a more CTE era style song. Thirteen is an awful album if only for the re-recording of New World Order in which they destroy how amazing that track is.

Endgame is fantastic. Dialectic Chaos leading into This Day We Fight is Megadeth at its best. And Chris Broderick has the chops to make Megadeth special in the same way Marty Friedman did. Th1rt3en wasn't great, but solid enough. Curious to see where they go next.

Chris Broderick is probably the most technically gifted guitarist ever in Megadeth, but his solos aren't anywhere near as interesting or creative a Chris Poland's or Marty Friedman's. Broderick just has too much of that virtuoso flair and not enough of the frenetic, desperate sound that made Megadeth great.

Youthanasia was the last Megadth album I was blown away by. Cryptic Writings was good, but less impressive, and everything since then has ranged between "meh" and "solid," IMO.

No the aliens were part of his left wing lunatic paranoid rantings: Hanger 18. This, broderick just wants to cram as many notes in as possible. Poland was a jazz fusion guy and Marty (while being a virtuoso) has so much expression in his solos instead of over-indulgent flair.

No, you burn the disks, take them outside, throw them up in the air and turn them to dust with a baseball bat. It's awfully cathartic when there is a fine foil dust falling all around. I discovered it back in the early days of burning after my 5th 'coaster' in a row. One nice solid swing, and they literally disintegrate. Best thing is, if you miss, they usually stay intact, and you can try again for full effect.

Tool is a good band. You may like them better than Megadeth but they really aren't comparable in terms of style. Megadeth and Mustaine in particular are pretty highly regarded in most metal circles and I would hazard a guess that there are many more people that list him as one of their big influences on guitar than... who plays guitar for Tool?

Tool was awesome up through Lateralus. 10,000 Days was all circle jerky and self masturbatory. Basically they decided they like the trippy triplet vibe and just play the shiat out of that. I saw them for both tours and after the second I was super meh. Tickets were pretty expensive and I left there saying, "won't do that again". Tool is either too proggy or not proggy enough, I can't decide. Dream Theater is one of my other favorites so I'd say too proggy.

Um, guys? Dave's been crazy all his life. It just seems that most of you didn't notice it back when his crazy was on the left instead of the right.
And btw, I'm a friggin' Jew with English as a third language and even I can tell that all his "Satanic" lyrics were written by a Christian about what he imagines "Satanism" to be.

All that bullshiat aside though, I'm sad about Dave. He's made some great songs in the '80s, some great albums in the '90s and after a series of shiat albums he'd actually managed to return to form with "System". But he's been rehashing it ever since (what, three times now? I stopped caring after the one with the sample from those GI Joe vids). On the bright side, he's a far better performer than he was in the glory days and at this point, when all that people really want him to do is play the oldies, I guess it's good enough.

Yeah, Endgame was substandard. It's like that ugly chick that should be beautiful: All the parts are there, and in and of themselves, the parts are ok, but together, they just make an ugly impression. I can't quite put my finger on it, but MEgadeth's last album was just stale, flat, over-produced, or something, I don't know. I've worried that I've grown too old to appreciate Metal, but Anthrax's latest and Lamb Of God's latest both kick ass all over the place, so it can't be me, Dave has just lost it.

I wonder how long till Megadeth is playing clubs in America ala Man-O-War but still huge in South America n stuff. Dave shoulda hung up his guitar after United Abominations, Megadeth hasn't had a solid single or song since then, and that album was just good. Their last great album was The System Has Failed which was almost 9 years ago. A freaking decade of lameness. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Add in diatribes like this crazy crap, and I'm all but done with the band. Great thing about old albums, they don't change when the artists do. I have all the old CD's as well as the redone ones Dave did back in the early 2000's.

Their relevancy is no longer viable in the world of metal, and their albums are shadows of their once greatness. This coming from the biggest Megadeth fan out there. I've driven 800 miles to see them live and even have the tour shirt from the first time I saw them in 1984!!! It's threadbare and full of holes, but I still have that fooker.

HotWingConspiracy: I don't understand why the family members of unhinged teabaggers never step in and do anything about their problem. Why do the rest of us have to deal with these retards?

"You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into."

As someone with "mostly hinged" Limbaugh-lovin' teabagger family and friends, I wish like hell there was a way to step in... but once these guys stake out a position, there's no changing it. All the evidence in the world just makes them grab hold even tighter to their beliefs because otherwise they have to face the prospect that they're dipshiats who've spent years being conned by a fat junkie asshole who probably daydreams about caramel-colored pre-pubescent boys.

My conservative uncle just won his disability yesterday... and told my mother he was going to vote for Mitt Romney to make sure the Democrats don't cut it or take it away.

Mugato: Fart_Machine: One of the few people who became more of an asshole after they got sober.

I'm not so sure about that. I've known a few newly sober people in my time and their asshole quotient either stays the same or increases. They don't take a piss in their friend's fish tank anymore but the sanctimony far outweighs the drunken shanannegans. Same goes for born againners.

Yep. Knew this guy who was a huge drunk. When I met him he was in AA and almost unbearable. He smoked liked a chimney and replaced beer with Ginger Beer, which he drank by the case. Like, 28 in two days drank. He grew to not like me because I would not give him money for just being at certain events. Seriously, he thought he deserved my money and possessions (I sold him a jacket and he wouldn't pay me and wouldn't return it) and did not speak to me for a few years, always referring to me as "the coont" because he could not mooch off me.

Eventually we booted him out of the organization when he got pissey with us for making fun of the meltdown he had when, after 28 Ginger Beers, he found he couldn't sleep and went mental. Like, seriously mental. Screaming that he "COULDN'T SLEEP" mental.

Also, for Fark's sake, he works two hours a day in a contract janitorial job as a big box retailer (he cannot even wear a nametag), biatches about his veteran status (served three years as a grease jockey for a reserve squadron in California and expects people buy him free food as a "thank you" for his 1989-1991 hitch, oh and has wasted his GI Bill years ago on courses that he either slept in on or outright flunked because he never attended) and is, of course, is a hard core Romney supporter despite earning less then most of us do in an hour for a full shift.

But god, just listening too him act like he was better than us because of his AA bullshiat. Drove me nuts. Once at an event we were sitting there when this scraggly guy came up to him and beckoned him over. They proceeded to have a secret conversation. They were in AA together and he acted like he was spying for the Queen or something.

rpl: Um, guys?

I at least noticed he was crazy left. He had a few good commentaries on the military industrial complex but they weren't groundbreaking insights he just said those observations in a clever way. I always wanted to pat him on the head and say "bless your heart" when he went into some of his "more creative" theories.

trotsky: Bill Hicks, as always, had the answer. Drugs make good music. Reference his bit on Keith Richards on drugs. Once 'ol Dave got off the drugs he found the worst drug of all.... Fundie Religion. Instead of channeling his drug fueled late night sessions into kick-ass metal albums that transcended the times and still play well today, he has decided in his new drug fueled haze to derp and herp about farking politics.

We should send Dave some cocaine or something to get him off Jesus.

Drug addicts have a natural addicted personality, so they need to find something to be obsessed with that isn't drugs. Mustaine like other drug addicts found God, thanks to how AA was made by Jungian theory. However, he could of went the Alice Cooper route, and got addicted to golf.

Yeah, most of the "Satanism" in metal is, if it's not just outright Christian imagery (listen to Black Sabbath sometime; most of their songs sound like fire and brimstone sermons).

I wish more ex-junkie rock stars were like Alice Cooper. To hear him tell it, he never technically stopped believing in God. He just started going to the bottle for help instead of church all those years he was a hopeless drunk. When he cleaned up, he started going to church again and used running and golf as his outlets for addiction recovery. He also didn't start lacing every album with references to religion. He knew on which side his bread was buttered, and that was in being the leathered-up, raspy-throated rock singer persona. Plus it's not like he ever stopped liking old monster movies and sci-fi, which is where he got a lot of his ideas in the first place.

Dave Mustaine, on the other hand, has always been a gigantic asshole. It's just that for a brief moment in the early 90s, he did some pro-Clinton coverage for MTV that made everyone think that maybe there was a brain underneath all that hair. Then he found God in the early 00's, and now he's another one of those ex-wastoids who found Jesus and reject everything about their old life without any kind of deep introspection. They go full retard the opposite direction, and their drug becomes this lifestyle of the born again recovering addict, and all the idiotic sh*t it brings.

I get that some people needed Jesus to help them finally get clean. That doesn't mean you now have a full pass to be a judgmental, cloying, self-absorbed asshole who never has to own up to the bad sh*t you did.

Technically speaking, Hangar's particular brand of crazy was Menza's, he wrote the lyrics (which I think was pointed out already, as well as with Foreclosure). "Architecture", "Symphony", "Ashes", "Holy Wars" (you know, the one where he changes the subject to comics halfway through, wasn't that a clear enough sign?), those (i think) are his and come to think of it (great, now I'm analyzing the lyrics of Dave farking Mustaine), they're not leftist as much as just nihilistic in general ("take a guy, give him power, he'll fark you over", "the greater the conqueror, the more death he'd have caused", etc). Heh, maybe he was a sikrit 'publikin all that time!

HeartBurnKid: Yeah, most of the "Satanism" in metal is, if it's not just outright Christian imagery (listen to Black Sabbath sometime; most of their songs sound like fire and brimstone sermons).

"After Forever". The giant crosses they all wore were also a bit of a giveaway.

Also; Alice Cooper's morality plays on stage (isn't he Dave's godfather?), Maiden, FARKING SLAYER (McBrain and Araya respectively; Catholics or something), so on, so forth. Oh, and with a heavy influence from Gothic lit which was Christian as all hell in itself.

...and most of that time, people were going around sharing stories they'd heard that each of these sacrifices goats onstage and they're all working to... iono, do something evil.

...and all that time, these deep lyrics were written by some guy who'd spent his entire life learning and practicing music and doing drugs. But mostly drugs. And little else. Maybe read a random book or two for an example of how you put words together in a sequence. Maybe.

Really, most of the time, it's best to just focus on the music. That's the real problem with Dave over the past few years, not the crap du-jour that he believes in and is totally pissed off about.

I'm sure they already have, but he's written up to the "LameStream Media" influence. It's funny, these people don't deny the stories, they just kind of write it off as a LSM thing and file it under 'forget'... It's even more flabbergasting than when they outright deny facts. Now they just act like you didn't say anything at all.

Yes because vague lyrics in a song directed at no one in particular are the same as a speech given to a live audience directly implicating the President of conspiracy and murder.

oops I guess I just never paid much attention. I will freely admit to being musically retarded. After hearing Dave's comment that musicians who disliked digital disliked it because digital proved they couldn't really play I just kind of wrote off everything Dave says and figured all silliness coming out of that band was his. Also he's such an obvious jerk I figured the band was run as a dictatorship with him at the head. I'm a huge fan of everything between Killing is my Business and United Abominations, but Dave like many artistic types has always impressed me as being more than a little unstable. I'm sad about what I perceive as the negative impact his conversion has had on his music but can't say his current derpitude particularly surprises me. From what I know about him he's always been one of those people who latches on to an idea and then finds "evidence" to support that idea later and that type personality is prone to latching on to wildly different even contradictory ideas over the course of their life with no apparent recognition of the contradictions.

I would love a partyless system, but in the short term I would like our laws changed to accommodate 3rd parties.

Being a 3rd party candidate means that your views DON'T get heard and you are not a part of the debate. It's also extremely hard to get on the ballot as well.

I'm so happy I moved to Canada, there's problems but god damn the politics are less of a circus and I can choose more than 2 major parties.

I usually protest vote for a 3rd party but this year I'm voting for Obama (ugh) because I want to snub republicans for attacking women with their anti-abortion BC stance. There's no other first world party that has these issues.
