Am I the only person left on the Internet who doesn't think Nikola Tesla was a goddamn God?

If you propose theories but never get them working, that NOBODY has ever gotten working, that doesn't make you a genius.

I'm sure JP Morgan and GE will be their usual philanthropic saint selves and help out with this.

To be fair, he wouldn't sleep with anyone (Tesla, not the Oatmeal guy).

I refuse to support this museum unless it is an exact replica of the workshop and creepy mountain retreat of Tesla featured in the famed documentary, The Prestige.

If they can be made to work, then he is actually a genius. But theories that can't be made to work does not make someone a genius.

Does anybody actually believe that? I think mostly people like to promote him because he is an under-rated compared to Edison.

A decent movie about Tesla, (with Orson Welles!) that somewhat accurately depicts how very odd he was socially.

The Secret of Nicola Tesla

Had his funding not been cut off by politics, today we would probably have those flying cars everyone keeps biatching about.

GreenAdder: To paraphrase Adam Savage, there were basically two Teslas, the scientist and the crackpot.

Yes, and exactly the same thing can be said of Isaac Newton. He spent huge amounts of time on real tinfoil hat stuff.....astrology, pyramid crap, etc., but along the way he managed to do all that gravity and calculus stuff, invented the reflecting telescope, etc.

Moral: If you're brilliant enough, you probably look like a loony in some ways to the rest of us.

Alternating current laughs at your voting. He did invent that. We still use it. And AC motors, Arc lighting (fluorescent lights anyone?) and the ever popular Tesla coil.

I don't get the The Oatmeal hate. WTF guys? The contrarian-for-the-sake-of-being-contrarian shiat is an old schtick.

And I think that this is a damned good cause. If you're an American, you live in a country with some really silly museums already in it. I don't see how a Tesla museum would be anything less than awesome.

I think he was both a lunatic and a genius. He had some brilliant ideas that are still foundations of modern technology, and he had some batshiat crazy ideas that may have been a good idea at the time.

I'm not letting a little mental illness override the good he did. At least he used his crazy for good instead of shooting up a crowd.
