It will also pay for itself with Iranian oil revenues and the Iranian people will greet you as liberators.

Looks like Israel is slowly coming to the cold realization that the US is kinda busy right now, militarily speaking, and this president isn't going to be double-dog dared into a war with Iran (and that he's gonna be the guy in charge for the next four years)

So now they are trying to pysche themselves into doing it on their own.

Bad Move. You all used to be the conference powerhouse what with the Six Day War and all, but your most recent game was an away game tie against a division IIA opponent (Hezbollah)

Also, what happens after 30 days that causes the conflict to end?

What does isreal do say "We blew up all your equipment and factories and stuff. We're chill now right?" Assume that isreal does manage to decimate Iran's army to such an extent that Iran can't wage 'proper' war after 30 days... doesn't this just mean they now have for face an intense suicide bombing and shelling campaign?

Thats really the thing I don't get about the whole "Invade Iran" thing: how can it possibly end in a good way?

Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.

There has been a good deal of comment - some of it quite outlandish - about what our postwar requirements might be in Iraq. Some of the higher end predictions we have been hearing recently, such as the notion that it will take several hundred thousand U.S. troops to provide stability in post-Saddam Iraq, are wildly off the mark. It is hard to conceive that it would take more forces to provide stability in post-Saddam Iraq than it would take to conduct the war itself and to secure the surrender of Saddam's security forces and his army - hard to imagine. --Paul Wolfowitz Feb 2003

/he was right about the figures being wrong. it took 1.5 million troops to "secure and hold" Iraq.

Izzy's been beating the war drums HARD (again) since ROMNEY! went on his ass-kissing mission to the Zionist State.

Noticed the price of fuel since then?

You ain't seen nothin' yet.

But it's worth every dollar it costs you if it will make Bibi less nervous.

AMIRITE?

This is more about influencing American politics (read DUMP OBAMA) than it is about anything Iran is doing.

Barry needs to grow some balls and throw down sanctions on Israel NOW.

Good times.

Obama needs a couple of months before he can grow any balls. The last time a President started pushing Israel to quit acting like a genocidal monster Lucianne Goldberg unleashed the Lewinsky "scandal". Clinton shut up about Israel.

And I think the Amirites were annihilated on God's orders in the Old Testament, so I don't see how they figure in.

Indeed.

And there was this ONE president that was DETERMINED that Israel would NOT get nuclear weapons.

He demanded that the Israelis open Dimona - their nuclear facility - for inspections.

njtoday.net

Unfortunately, he had an accident.

But that's okay, because the guy who replaced him was VERY pro-Zionist.

This has less to do with Iran getting a warhead anytime soon and more to do with influencing the US election - our election in Nov figures into just about every piece they are running in their media over there.

They sent their bagman, Adelson, over here with a billion dollars to ensure that the schwarze doesn't get a second term - all because Obama hasn't kissed their ass enough for stealing land and starving people to death.

Tatsuma: The regime once again declared on Wednesday that Israel will soon disappear from the map. At a meeting of the Iran-Iraq veterans, during Al-Quds day which is the official day of the year where the Iranian Government cheers for the destruction of Israel and having Muslims take over the land.

See, some people have labor day, some people have shark weeks, others have 'death to Israel' fridays.

Its quite puzzling that Israel might want to take steps to deter a country that continually supports terrorism against her and routinely announces its commitment to its destruction from getting nuclear weapons.

Well, Tats, if you're cool with starting WWIII, then you and Israel can go right ahead, but fark you all if you want our help. I damn sure won't be over there fighting for you. Israel has been upping the ante in the inflammatory rhetoric, playing right into what Iran wants: an external enemy of another religion, backed by the "Great Satan." So congrats, Israel has fallen for a poorly veiled Iranian attempt to gin up support for a war to distract from crippling problems at home.

She comes in colors everywhere: Elegy: I just don't see this (conventional war with Iran) happening, at least not with Israel as the initial aggressor: I think Israel is too aware of its own geographical disadvantage when it comes to conventional war.

Look at the country on the map - it's one long eastern front with the sea at your back. Lots of wide open desert, with nowhere to run or hide. A perforated border with the Palestinians, who will rise up and fight for the other guy at first chance. Not to mention that something like 80-90% of the Israeli population and industrial base is concentrated into only three cities - so there is no hope for sustained conflict on Israel's part, as those cities will be struck early.

Put simply, there is no way for Israel to win that war.

Tell that to Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.

/3 days.

and do you know who treats the Palestinians worse than Israel? All the surrounding countries. Iran funds Hezbollah who works in Lebanon. And Lebanon forbids Palestinians from everything including having a job.

Well, we know how that narrative goes.

"We urge Israel not to engage in unprovoked attacks on Iran, and we warn them that we will not support such action but condemn it in the strongest possible fashion."
|
v
"We categorically reject intervening. This is not America's fight, and we ask everyone to remember the innocent people on both sides of this senseless conflict."
|
v
"Our sympathies go out to our allies and friends in Israel, but we must also not forget the people of Iran. We hope for a quick resolution to this senseless war."
|
v
"Our sympathies go out to our allies and friends in Israel and we are proud to announce that we are providing humanitarian aid to help address the recent food shortage as well as rebuilding damage civilian residences."
|
v
"We continue to call for an end to this senseless war. However, we recognize our responsibility to our friends and allies in Israel and are sending 2,000 troops in a strictly defensive capacity to help protect Tel Aviv."
|
v
"We stand with our friends in Israel and are saddened and outraged by these attacks. I have authorized an additional 2,000 troops to help defend Israel against Iranian incursion."
|
v
"The senseless aggression by Iran toward our friends in Israel can no longer be tolerated. That is why I am asking Congress for authorization to send 20,000 active-duty troops to augment our personnel already on the ground. In addition, we have already begun, based on standing authorization, targeted air strikes against Iranian military emplacements."

And by the time three weeks are up Iran will have been the evil instigators the whole time and there will be endless cheering of America's "thoughtful defense of her allies".

So basically just like living on a Native American reservation?

I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I

So you admit how much worse the actions of America has been compared to Israel?

And therefore Israel gets a free pass to do whatever evil they want just up to the point of being as evil as the most evil other country. Proportionally, what does that mean? Israel gets one free rape of every Arab? Maybe the government should print voucher cards, "redeem for one free rape"; just as long as it's not quite as bad as everything that America's ever done cumulatively.

You're the people trying to paint Jews and Israel as the devil while their actions were not close to worse than any other country. Don't project your insecurities on anyone else but yourself.

Poor, poor, repressed Israel. Manipulated, defeated, and/or overthrown every regional rival and with the world's only superpower in its back pocket, and still the victim.

WeenerGord: Hobodeluxe: it's in the Bible, what to pay for them, how to treat them etc...

I knew I read it somewhere.

it's in the Torah too

It is permissible to work a non-Jewish servant harshly. Yet, although this is the law, the way of the pious and the wise is to be compassionate and to pursue justice, not to overburden or oppress a servant, and to provide them from every dish and every drink.

The early sages would give their servants from every dish on their table. They would feed their animals and their servants before sitting to their own meals. Does it not say (Psalms 123:2), "As the eyes of the servant to the hand of his master; as the eyes of the maid to her mistress [so our eyes are towards the L-rd our G-d...]"?

So, too, you should not denigrate a servant, neither physically nor verbally. The Torah made him your servant to do work, not to be disgraced. Do not treat him with constant screaming and anger, rather speak with him pleasantly and listen to his complaints. Such were the good ways in which Job took pride when he said, "Did I ever despise the judgment of my servant and my maid when they argued with me? Did not my Maker make him, too, in the belly; did not the same One form us both in the womb?"

For anger and cruelty are only found among other nations. The children of Abraham, our father--and they are Israel, to whom the Holy One, blessed be He, has provided the goodness of Torah and commanded us righteous judgments and statutes--they are compassionate to all. This is one of the attributes of the Holy One, blessed be He, that we are commanded to emulate (Psalms 145:9): "And He has compassion for all He has made."

Furthermore, all who have compassion will be treated compassionately, as was stated (Deuteronomy 13:18), "He will give you compassion and He will have compassion upon you and multiply you."

(Mishneh Torah, Laws of Indentured Servants, 9:8)

America's war in Vietnam alone, the chemical and napalm dropped on civilians, what has Israel done that can be classified worse than that? How about the treatment of Indians by the British colonial powers? Or Russia with its own people? Like I said, Israel is a saint compared to what these nations have done. And yet they are the first to judge Israel. Hypocrites.

The people who are against what Israel does to the Palestinians are the same ones who were against those things. The ones who think Israel can do no wrong are the same ones who thought those things were necessary to win the war, to save"civilization," to promote God and Country, etc.

Not entirely. There are plenty of People who would loudly denounce this if it was happening in South America or Africa, but turn a blind eye when it happens in Isreal. They convince themselves that it's not that bad, or it's somehow different.

Look at apartheid. Day in and day out over and over we had news coverage about what was happening in some country most people had never hear of. We ALL denounced that, but somehow, the same thing doesn't even warrant coverage when it happens in Isreal. Because it's.... Different.

Are you playing obtuse on purpose? You said Israel isn't an innocent bystandard because of their past actions. So anything that happens is justified. But that only applies to Israel, a country who is the most innocent out of any major player in world affairs. A saint compared to the past history of America, England, Germany, Russia, etc.

So because America has a history of genocide that means Israel should be allowed to practice it? Because Russia practiced ruthless suppression of others they get to do the same? We playing some kind of catch-up game where nobody faces sanctions or criticism until their level of evil matches the evil of others?

I can't believe you of all people are trotting out the "I may be bad but you're worse!" argument. Doesn't Santayana's quote about remembering the past instead of repeating it carry any weight at all, in favor of trying to justify doing it because everyone else did it to?

intelligent comment below: Amos Quito: There was a LOT of political skulduggery that went on behind the scenes that most people are unaware of

Jews were in positions of political power? Name the countries

Now, that's not what he said and you know it. There were a lot of very deeply-rooted reasons why Jews were so hated in Eastern Europe, thousands of years of lies and deceit. People believed the "Protocols" were genuine, that Jews ran the world, and that Jews were responsible for their troubles. There was a lot of behind-the-scenes politicking, some of which led to things like the quotas for Jewish immigrants actually being reduced by the US, among other things. And there WERE Jews in positions of power in the Weimar Republic, at least until Hitler got the Nuremburg Laws passed.

A good takeaway point here is that by reducing it to JEWS: GOOD VICTIMS! NAZIS: EVIL MURDERERS! we lose the nuances of why everyone ELSE was so anxious to exterminate the Jews, and why the Jews had good reasons besides fear for not rising against their oppressors until almost the last minute. And it allows Israel to continue to make extremely wrong-headed choices and thwart any possibility for peace in the Middle East because they can always count on supporters to trot out the anti-Semite card for anyone who disagrees with them.

Look how fast the Captain got you off-track about whether war between Israel and Iran might be a bad thing, because you had to jump into proving him to be a bigoted Jew-hater. It's an argument you can't win, at least between you and him, so why make it? Why the need to proclaim anyone who criticizes Jews must be an evil anti-Semite? It makes reasonable discussion about the ISSUES impossible when we have to argue PERSONALITIES instead.

If you think this statements are anyway anti-israel or anti-semitic in any way, this means that you are racist against muslims and particularly muslim persians:

"Our dear Imam (referring to Ayatollah Khomeini) said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement. We cannot compromise over the issue of Palestine. Is it possible to create a new front in the heart of an old front. This would be a defeat and whoever accepts the legitimacy of this regime has in fact, signed the defeat of the Islamic world. Our dear Imam targeted the heart of the world oppressor in his struggle, meaning the occupying regime. I have no doubt that the new wave that has started in Palestine, and we witness it in the Islamic world too, will eliminate this disgraceful stain from the Islamic world" - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

"[Muslim leaders who accept the existence of Israel are] acknowledging a surrender and defeat of the Islamic world." - Mahmoud "Men's Warehouse's best customer for bad suits" Ahmadinejad

If you think these statements in anyway justify Israel's aggressive stance towards Iran, it simply means that you are a despicable human being who needs to have 100% of his wealth and income taxed to pay for Fark Libs to not get real jobs.

One of the world's largest holders of oil and natural gas reserves simply wants nuclear energy. Funny how libs suddenly have no problem with nuclear energy when their third world allies need it.

Wake me up when the muslim version of Judith Miller uses the nation's "paper of record" to publish front page propaganda that leads to the death of thousands of American service men and women.

I'm pretty sure that, according to the Bush Doctrine, Iran is perfectly within its rights to pre-emptively destroy Israel. Right? Seems fair.

Did you know Israel is deporting all of its African immigrants right now? Started on June 10th.

Google "Israel deport" and throw in the word "infiltrator" for extra fun

Snarfangel:shkkmo: 'Decimate' means 'kill every tenth' as a punishment for an army.

What about hexidecimate?

That would mean "kill every F'th" soldier.

I think that they'd have to cut Iran's army by more than a tenth in order to win.

9/11 Israelis

In September 2001, The New York Times and Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that four hours after the attack, the FBI arrested five Israelis who had been filming the smoking skyline from the roof of a white van in the parking lot of an apartment building, for "puzzling behavior". They were charged with illegally residing in the United States and working there without permits. The Israelis were said to have been videotaping the disaster with what was interpreted as cries of "joy and mockery".[57][58] Police found the van and a search revealed $4,700 in cash hidden, along with foreign passports and a boxcutter which aroused suspicions and led to the detention of the occupants. The men were held in detention for more than 2 months, during which time they were subjected to interrogation and lie detector tests, before being deported back to Israel; one of the men (Paul Kurzberg) refused to take the test for 10 weeks, and then failed it.[59]

The five men worked at the company Urban Moving Systems, owned and operated by Dominick Suter. After the men were arrested the FBI searched their offices and questioned Suter, however Suter fled to Israel before he could be questioned further. Eventually, Suter's name appeared on the May 2002 FBI Suspect List, along with the September 11 hijackers and other suspected extremists.[60][not in citation given][61][62][63]

According to a former CIA chief of operations for counterterrorism Vince Cannistraro, there was speculation that Urban Moving Systems may have been a front for an intelligence operation investigating fund-raising networks channeling money to Hamas and Islamic Jihad. On March 15, 2002, The Forward claimed that the FBI had concluded that the van's driver, Paul Kurzberg, and his brother Sivan, were indeed Mossad operatives, who were in America "spying on local Arabs".[64] ABC news cited this report on June 21, 2002, adding that the FBI had concluded that the five Israelis had no foreknowledge of the attacks.[65]

The nice thing about preemptive strikes, they never piss off the country attacked. The other country is all like "Ha, good one! You really got us that time."

It was funny then, now it's kinda sad.
