Yeah. A month. With minimal losses. And all of the Iranian citizens will gladly take this invasion and overthrow, the neighboring countries will be pretty chill with the whole thing happening and and a pig will fly right over the fireworks of the day of victory. No short-term or long-term effects, nosirree.

No way they plan on invading and overthrowing, just a bombing campaign to remove their capability to develop nukes.

After about 30 days Iran would probably be out of shiat to lob at them.

Syria can't really spare troops to help out Iran now.

Saudi (as we learned form Wiki leaks) wouldn't be too hurt in private if Iran was taken down a peg or two.

Lebanon (or at least Hezbollah) may try something, but I see that ending in the 30 days.

Egypt would still probably stay out of it (if the military is in charge).

So short term it sounds about right. Of course it overlooks what this will do to Israeli/Muslim and even more importantly Israeli/International relations for the next 30 or so years. Can't see that coming out a win.

Assume that isreal does manage to decimate Iran's army to such an extent that Iran can't wage 'proper' war after 30 days

I could see the mission being a success in destroying the nuclear power plants and research facilities and killing key personnel, but I'm not sure how a quick strike is going to kill even a fraction of Iran's army.

If there's a naval battle involving the US, the Iranian fleet will probably be nonexist within days if not hours, but I don't think anyone thought it mattered anyway. Iran's air force is probably in the same spot.

Still, just the threat of Iranian ballistic missiles, mines, and/or torpedo boats sinking a few oil tankers is probably going to cause the price of oil to jump to $"You can't afford it, even if you can find someone selling it". Just in time for winter. Oh and so much for the economic recovery.

Thats really the thing I don't get about the whole "Invade Iran" thing: how can it possibly end in a good way?

Now, that's not what he said and you know it. There were a lot of very deeply-rooted reasons why Jews were so hated in Eastern Europe, thousands of years of lies and deceit. People believed the "Protocols" were genuine, that Jews ran the world, and that Jews were responsible for their troubles. There was a lot of behind-the-scenes politicking, some of which led to things like the quotas for Jewish immigrants actually being reduced by the US, among other things. And there WERE Jews in positions of power in the Weimar Republic, at least until Hitler got the Nuremburg Laws passed.

A good takeaway point here is that by reducing it to JEWS: GOOD VICTIMS! NAZIS: EVIL MURDERERS! we lose the nuances of why everyone ELSE was so anxious to exterminate the Jews, and why the Jews had good reasons besides fear for not rising against their oppressors until almost the last minute. And it allows Israel to continue to make extremely wrong-headed choices and thwart any possibility for peace in the Middle East because they can always count on supporters to trot out the anti-Semite card for anyone who disagrees with them.

Look how fast the Captain got you off-track about whether war between Israel and Iran might be a bad thing, because you had to jump into proving him to be a bigoted Jew-hater. It's an argument you can't win, at least between you and him, so why make it? Why the need to proclaim anyone who criticizes Jews must be an evil anti-Semite? I'm game for blaming Mossad/Israel for various conspiracies (USS Liberty, Iranian nuke scientist assassinations, etc.) but the evidence on JFK really points elsewhere. Look into E. Howard Hunt's deathbed confession that he was involved as backup. I read Dr. Mary's Monkey and Me and Lee and both books are outstanding for understanding where Oswald came from and the intelligence community that was operating in New Orleans. I haven't read JFK and the Unspeakable yet, but I hear it's solid work and I don't think it points toward Israel. Few people realize just how much new information has come out on JFK just in the last three years.

There is no upcoming war with Iran. It's all just a political ploy to rally around the government that keeps having to deal with massive protests about living conditions, drafting religious youth, etc.

If Israel wanted to attack Iran they would have done it already, in strikes similar to Syria and Iraq, to which there was no warning.
