Pretty good list. A couple I'd add:

Li'l Zé from City of God

Ben Wade from 3:10 to Yuma

List doesn't completely suck. Very nice.

I'd throw in Geoffrey Rush's Captain Barbossa from the first PotC.

I dunno, The Monarch has a soft side. For pure evil, I'd go with Baron Ünderbheit or Monstroso (he's a villain and a lawyer!)

I think they mean "Best Villains of the First Eleven and a Half Years of the 21st Century".

How could they have O-rin without Bill?

legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen plays Erik Lehnsherr, a Nazi concentration camp survivor who is determined to make sure mutants never suffer like his family did - no matter what the cost. Matthew Fassbender portrayed Magneto in "X-Men: First Class,"

MICHAEL Fassbender is one of my favorite actors, so fark you for getting it wrong HitFix

I have an article due? Crap, lemme just write about the last couple popular movies I watched this weekend.

Kid, Ben Wade wouldn't last five minutes leading an outfit like that if he wasn't as rotten as hell.

1998 is close enough.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has several of the best villains in movies.

Hatchet Harry, Barry the Baptist, Big Chris, Dog, Plank, and Rory Breaker come to mind.

/If you don't want to be counting the fingers you haven't got, you best be calling 1998 the 21st Century

That was a pretty decent list... I don't get all the Punching the Clown over No Country For Old Men, and I never saw The Help, but the list was pretty solid overall... Best part? The different people writing the blurbs actually gave good reasons for why they included the villains on the list. It wasn't just 'Ooooh, he's so creepy!', there was actual reasoning.

And no, Smeagol isn't really a villain, he's a tragic, conflicted soul, closer to Frankenstein's Monster than to Sauron, for context... I actually thought they did a good job of presenting his conflicted dual personality in the films.

2012-08-15 06:59:22 PM
Tom Hardy as Bronson.

Although it was a pretty sympathetic portrayal, so maybe doesn't count as a villain.

I really did not care for 3:10 to Yuma. Plot was too unbelievable, and the leg thing was never an issue until it was.

I know the Captain is the antagonist, but I'd rather nominate Herr Doktor, what with his actually intending to be a villain.

It's not film, but Ian McShane's Al Swearengen on Deadwood was an excellent villain. He was always three or four steps ahead of everyone else.

Do comedy movies count? Because I would throw Bradley Cooper from Wedding Crashers in there.

Ooh, I forgot about him. A favorite, really gross villain.

One of the scarier villains I remember seeing within the last year. Maybe it was that he was just a little too real. Just a brute that loved messing with people.

I submit Charlie Prince in his place.

The "other Ryan Gosling" deserves to be in the list. Also, he's an awesome bad guy in every movie he's in and should get more roles.

List was surprisingly solid. If we're throwing folks from TV out there, might I suggest...

He was a ruthless, coldhearted bastard but goddamn did I love him

I think I got about half the list to appear on my phone.

I thought Loki was a very likable and sympathetic villain in Thor. A bit less so in The Avengers, as he seemed to be motivated entirely by his bruised ego in that one.

No. The villain from the original Hong Kong version did it better. The amazing part was, he's more known as a comedian!

In the American re-make, it was just Jack Nicholson being Jack Nicholson.

I second this.

"Other Ryan Gosling" = Ben Foster. Sometimes I have trouble telling him apart from Aaron Paul from "Breaking Bad." But yes, he did an amazingly creepy job in 3:10 to Yuma, even made Ben Wade look like a sympathetic good guy by comparison.
