The writer sounds fat.

2012-08-15 12:15:45 PM
He's been writing about fitness for a while now.

Last month, he did Crossfit.

The general gist of all the articles is pretty typical snarky Gawker everything people do sucks claptrap.

Subby needs to work on his tongue-in-cheek exercises.

This reminds me, I have to re-start my p-90x. Again.

I lost about 30 pounds in 2-3 months with P90X. Notice that article does not say that it doesn't work. It's not promising a diet cure-all with 10 minutes a day of exercise. Each daily exercise is 60-90 minutes with a pretty straight-forward diet regimen. For me, the high cost was more palatable than a personal trainer, a gym membership and/or a ton of research. P90X is a beast to stick with though so I've moved on to less grueling exercise videos.

I heard he instructs free workouts for Congressional members in the gym. I wonder who all attends.

I'm sure he'll just be blasted by the left-wing, lamestream media the same way they go after Michelle Obama, though, right?

Fitness and nutrition = snobbery.

Do people realize there is a P90 program that preceded P90X? I only ask because P90X is all anyone ever talks about and Tony Horton recommends doing the P90 program first

People only ever talk about P90X because it sells a lot. Most people that buy it probably aren't in the minimum amount of shape suggested to start the program. There's even a workout test to gauge if you are eligible. I didn't pass the test and I still got plenty out of it. I'm on Power 90 now and I don't think it's quite as well-developed but it is easier.

All the article is saying is that you can get the benefits of P90X without paying out the nose for it. (Calling it "fascist" is a bit over the top, I'll concede, but everyone loves hyperbole, right?)

So I'm guessing subby is a Repbulican shill. Why is he against being bootstrappy and doing it on your own rather than by means of an expensive set of DVDs? Wake me when you guys start making some sense.

2012-08-15 01:08:59 PM
I love P90X and I'm almost done with my second round of it. It definitely isn't for everyone, though (I'm looking at you, lazy fatties). Plus, if you can exercise 60-90 minutes a day and eat right by yourself, you don't need it. It's just a motivational tool when all is said and done. But cheaper than a personal trainer and gym membership...

2012-08-15 01:10:15 PM
Sorry subby, but they're just getting started. From here to the convention it'll be playful, silly stories like this. Afterward, the Death Star will be fully operational and Ryan will be remembered as Palin 2.0.

But look on the bright side, at least he'll get his own Fox News show out of it.

2012-08-15 01:10:36 PM
If it'll scrub my Twitter feed of half-sentences proclaiming what exercises have just been done, I'm all for it.

Currently doing p90x for the third time. It's tough. And it works.

Why should I take the word of some Canadian donut maker about fitness? Give me a double-double and a maple bar and shut up.

Subby has a legitimate point. There's tons of stuff to attack Ryan on. This article is just unfunny sniping at P90X because Ryan does it, which is a little ridiculous.

It's not like he's skipping vaccinations or using one of those magnetic harmonics bracelets and claiming health benefits. Ryan works out doing something that's pretty hard-core cardio. Good for him. He's probably going to outlive most of us if he keeps it up, which bodes poorly for the country but I'm not going to begrudge him longevity because he takes better care of himself than I do.

So the other day I started cycle 2 of p90x. My roommate, who did most of half of part of the first cycle with me, walked through the room just as I was beginning overhead presses. Out of nowhere, he stops, gets this evil look in his eye and screams "fark YOU TONY HORTON!" and runs back to his room and shuts the door.

Did Tony jump out of my TV and touch him at night or something? o.O

He's not attacking Ryan, except to mention him as an aside. Paul Ryan was a convenient excuse to slag on P90X, which seems to be part of an occasional series on why your exercise program sucks.

I find working out tough at this time of year due to the fact that the workout room is like a constant 30 celcius. But I am making progress. Can't stand those workout videos; I prefer to watch tv shows on DVD while working out.

I've done P90 regular. I like it over P90x because a 25-30 minute workout is a lot easier to fit into my schedule than the P90X 45-60 minute workout. That plus it's the easier one to ease into when you're horrendously out of shape. My only beef with it was that it gets extremely boring. At least with P90X you have, what, 6 programs that cycle through, vs the 2 programs of P90.

But yeah, everybody is gaga over P90X, but I noticed results from just P90.

/someday I'll get back to it and stop being so lazy

I had to learn the lesson that running in Georgia at noon is not the same as going for a run in Florida at noon. I accidentally got my little black lab a bad sunburn on her back the first month i lived here. She's since recovered and learned to stay inside a little more in her new home.

That being said, P90X is great for people who can get into it. If you can follow the plan and the structure it can give you a basis into a healthier life. I will never reject the validity of something that requires no surgery, no crash diet , encourages people to move on a daily basis, and has nothing truly harmful beyond putting a shiny brand name on normal exercises. More power to you if that's what got you motivated to change your life for the better. P90X Bros - you do your thing, imma do me.

I'm pretty well convinced at this point that nobody who ever paid anything in the name of being taught fitness ever got fit outside sports or Hollywood.

If you can't get it done with a set of dumbbells, a pair of running shoes and any one or more of the countless free workout plans available on the internet, it's not happening because you didn't really want to do it in the first place.

What any of this has to do with Paul Ryan, I do not know.

I lost 65 bounds in 6 months and it didn't cost me $120 or a personal trainer. It's still off, I still go to the gym religiously for over 2 years now, and I eat normaly.

I think that was the author's point, you don't need a P90X type program, which ironically, I watch the infomercials in the gym at 6AM with all the other non P90Xrs, you just need to know how to excersize...and continually do it.

Practically...I have one at work but I got in very cheap contract a long time ago that my gym dues are minor.
Plus I don't need use a DVD to do my work out or wake up my wife at 5AM.

I have pondered giving that a try. I think after completing p90x three times, I will be in *almost* good enough shape to begin insanity.

Agreed, except the youtube part. There was nothing wrong with their network (I liked Lifehacker best), and they just farked it eight ways from Sunday. Worse, they did it with a supreme arrogance that really puts Drew's "You'll get over it" in proper perspective. Also, Fark was still usable after his major revision. Navigating Gawker, et al these days is like masturbating with sandpaper. You can do it, but good lord why?

But the writing itself has simply turned catty and b*tchy where it used to be some fairly epic snark. That's another reason the comment community over there has gone from one of the internet's most amusing to just plain annoying.

I started Insanity while in horribad shape. It has kicked my arse and gotten me to a much better place than I've ever been. Now, I still might not be able to make it through all the sets, but I much prefer it to P90X.

I'm young and stupid though, and am at much lower risk of something catastrophic happening because I'm pushing that hard after so many years of being a couch potato. If I was older, I probably would have started with P90.

You make a very good point. I think the whole bring up the P90X is because RR has no substance, so they need this filler when talking about their campaign.
