Bobby V has done well doing the job he was hired for: isolating the next manager from co.parisons with Francona.

I'm no fan of Bobby Valentine, but I think a lot of these players are blaming him for their own crappy performances as individuals this year. Their starting rotation has been pretty awful, and two of their supposed "super stars" are looking like anything but - Yes, Pedroia and Gonzales, I am looking at you.

This team is such an embarrassment. They are making to hard to root for the laundry.

Last month I was told my blood pressure was better than it's been in years. I attribute 97% of that to not giving a day-to-day fark about the Red Sox for the first time in my life.

Maybe now tickets will be easier to get next year, if it's not cool to be a Sox fan.

obligatory retelling of the Norfolk Tides game in the mid 90s where then-manager Bobby Valentine, after every inning, was checking out my then GF, now wife.

SIX MONTHS! He has only been there SIX FARKING MONTHS! That is not enough time for anything! You know what? They should just suspend Boston's season now because the newspapers are not mature enough to handle the concept of a baseball team. Just CLOSE IT UP!

I think we're past the"Does Bobby V come back year?" point and are now into "Does Bobby V make it to 162?" territory.

It's boston. They were calling for his head 1-week into the season. They overreact on everything, and always with negativity.

When the players start to mutiny, that's the press' fault?

I love seeing the empty seats on TV. Even more, I love knowing how much of a bath Ace and Stubhub are taking on those empty seats. If they were for sale for real, I'd buy some - I love baseball, even crappy 2012 Red Sox baseball - but they've got to keep that horsecrap "sellout streak" going, so there's nothing officially available, so I find other things to do with my life.

Get rid of all of them, just leave Fenway alone.

It's the players' fault for being children. Bobby V's a horrible coach, but he should at least try to keep the inmates from running the asylum.

I haven't been following Boston all that closely so I can't comment on Bobby V (full disclosure: I'm the only Mets fan who didn't love him when he was here). But seriously. You're 57-60 with a rotation that's been nothing but suck most of the year and a lineup of guys that underachieved. Suddenly some of the pitchers are throwing better, and Gonzales and Pedroia remembered how to hit a little.

Sox fans should be happy they're only 57-60 and not much worse, and stop acting like this is the worst team they've seen. That's only true if you jumped on the bandwagon around 2003.

If only ESPN would provide any coverage of the Red Sox, maybe I'd be better informed of the situation there.

There's only so much he can do, with Luccino involving himself in everything.

yeah....a quick glance at the standings show a host of teams with 45-55 wins and Houston for christ's sake, with 39. you're not going to the playoffs this year Boston, but....it could be worse.

and to your second point, "Red Sox Nation" was 100mi radius around Boston up until 2004. Now every third coontslap that has never been east of the Mississippi claims RSN.

Oh this. Stubhub, ace tickets, and scummy season ticket holders that only sell to the gray market. All of can go jump off the Tobin.

Currently on Stubhub.

maybe boston and florida could work out a coach trade, and Mount Saint Ozzie could try to whip the Red Sox into shape.

Remember, when Kevin Millar was passing around shots of whiskey or jaeger or whatever the f*ck it was in the clubhouse (hell, it was probably both and then some) before games, it was "cool".

It's amazing how suddenly not winning games changes how people perceive things.

/Seriously, Lackey and Beckett are just assholes in general. You don't need to force a narrative about them to make them look bad.

question (and I'm ashamed I don't know this): is the attendance in the box score "paid attendance" or the actual turnstile count?

I really should google things BEFORE I ask questions here.. it's paid attendance

Exactly. I'm sick and tired of people making out slightly-under-.500 teams to be alltime epic failures.

A failure is when you win 60something games. Not 78.

I suppose, but I guess there's a difference between trying to get a ticket at Fenway and getting one for the Ted

If you have a $173 million payroll, finishing below .500 is an epic failure. At least the Red Sox will have company, the Phillies are right there with them.
