Seriously. Author has some serious necrophilia for Jobs. Jobs didn't predict the death of Flash on mobile devices, nor was Flash pulled/dumped from Android by Google. Adobe chose to end support for mobile Flash. Not only that, but Flash *is* still available, and works just fine on every modern device. Even if you get a device that does not show Flash in the Play Store, you can just grab the .apk and sideload it - no rooting required.

Author is a tard.

Ed Finnerty: Porno is what drives the internet, not Apple.

Yep.

I'm running Flash on Jelly Bean, so suck it Adobe.

If backwards compatibility, or rather, not being able to ditch old, bad flash support was making Flash such a bloated mess, then couldn't Adobe have reworked the plugin to load either an Old version or a new Version based on the file/media details?

Old news exciting etc etc.

t3knomanser: So powerful that Adobe has abandoned the mobile platform and thrown their weight behind HTML5. It's one thing to white-knight a product, but when the people making the product contradict you, you're full of shiat. Flash isn't going to sleep with you.

As I said, Adobe makes authoring tools, they go where the money is. It is possible to support both.

Flash isn't going to sleep with you.

I make a very good living programming and processing video for Flash. This makes my wife happy and she sleeps with me.

Flash .swf files are a file format with compressed resources and ECMAScript (JavaScript). They compress resources so well that comparable projects in HTML5 are about 4 times the size. And one quarter the performance. The 'Flash Player' can be optimized for any platform and that is being done. Mobile hardware is so far behind desktop devices and is evolving so quickly that Adobe wasn't making money supporting it.

Flash 3D performance has been improving by leaps and bounds. Of all of the games on the internet that actually make money, what percentage do you think are written for the Flash plugin?

How many hundreds of millions of dollars have these games made?

As for Unity? It requires a plugin for the browser as well. Fortunately, it publishes to Flash .swf format. Apparently the Unity developers still think Flash support is important.

If Flash does fade away I'll just switch to whatever takes it's place. (After you learn your first dozen or so development tools you realize that they're all pretty similar).

gingerjet: Vegan Meat Popsicle: To be fair, shiatty performance is what happens when your phone is constantly two generations of technology behind the competition because you spend 90% of your development time tweaking the hue of the plastic case until it's just right...

The 90s called. It wants its shiatty arguments back.

Your mac's overpriced, outdated video card insists to differ, iDrone.

Pretty much, that blog was painful to read, the Job fanboys are truly delusional "he single handedly killed flash" LOL, wow,.

I don't know about games--never seen any HTML5 games in the wild worth a damn--but for video, I haven't had any complaints about Flash in the last few years (whereas prior to that I did). Sometimes I wonder if video playback is so improved because it's actually HTML5, but I right-click on it and it still says "About Adobe Flash Player..." Full 1080p works perfectly in any browser.

Meanwhile, half the time I try to watch something on the Apple Trailers website I get some disk thrashing up front and the video never even starts.

Sideload? Is this a term that people are using now? WTF...  And I have no idea wtf you are talking about...

HTML5 + WebGL

Flash has been pointless for a while now. Not to say it isn't used, but the alternatives are better, and not closed source, non-standard shiat.

/Porn on iPhone/iPad you say? Plenty work! Xvideos.com and pornhub.com, but many others as well.

Strange, I'm not running Flash on my 3rd Gen iPad, and porn is working fine.
Most pr0n sites detect Safari/iOS and just load the HTML5 video player I stead of flash. Same for embedded videos on most sites. Honestly couldn't tell you the last time I had web video not load on my iPad.

*shrug*
