It's almost as though being rich doesn't make you impervious to morality.

George Soros?

2012-08-15 11:49:21 AM
He should be attacking the billionaire's parents for being poor. Right, submitter?

Self-made? So all of his employees and business partners and accountants and all that are just extensions of himself, right?

2012-08-15 12:00:49 PM
Was he condemning him for being successful?

Or wait, are the successful immune to any criticism?

Oh, Townhall, you little scamp.

2012-08-15 12:02:37 PM
And by "bash" we mean "informed potential donors that he's given a lot of money to Republicans."

Also, Soros?

The My Little Pony Killer: Self-made? So all of his employees and business partners and accountants and all that are just extensions of himself, right?

No, they just stand around and watch him do all the work. He doesn't need them at all.

No, haven't you heard Romney? He built that!

Come to think of it, this is really the best reason for much higher marginal rates for high earners. If they are able to accumulate that much wealth they have too much power over the political process and economy.

Anyone else noticing Republicans' faux outrage is unusually transparent this election?

Isn't it weird that the media are actually doing their job? I wonder if some of them have been watching The Newsroom.

Hahaha wow. The utter audacity of the article and headline is like... astonishing. I'm not even mad, that's just amazing.

a: that's not an attack, that's a statement of facts followed by an explanation of how Obama's campaign differs from Romneys when it comes to fundraising

b: being "self-made" doesn't mean you are always right in your actions

Bingo. If you say bad things about rich people, you're attacking them for being successful.

I note with some concern that the author somehow missed that whole "I want to buy Romney so he'll attack Iran on behalf of Israel" thing. That's like...kind of important.

Also, here's a reality check for President Obama: 86 percent of millionaires are self made and 75 percent of billionaires are self made.

I checked those links. In the millionaires link, they defined "self-made" as "did not consider themselves wealthy growing up". Now, I'm not lambasting the use of self-report as a means of data collection, but there are much better metrics than that as a proxy for SES than "growing up, do you think you were rich?"

In the billionaires link, they said "almost two-thirds" and not 75%, as you said. So you're outright lying there, Ms. Pavlich. But even then, they did not back up their claim of "almost two-thirds" in any way. It is just stated, outright, as a matter-of-fact. Because the link you posted was to a slide-show of billionaires (btw, 3 of the 5 are foreigners), and not any report or data or anything.

Nothing exemplifies "you didn't build that" quite like bribing government officials.

He's not condemning his success. He's condemning what he's done with that success. Namely, undermine the sovereignty of our country and interfere with free and open democracy.

The only people Obama think warrant their success is himself (selling books that nobody read) and his fat cat democrat donors. Everybody else is not paying their fair share and did not do it alone.

That's probably on the same level as selling ice to eskimos, considering the entire point of a book is to be read. If you can make good money off of that, well damn.

Look, Mr. "President," Auric Goldfinger worked hard to make his fortune. He wasn't just born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He worked hard burning spies in half with fricking lasers and planning to disperse poisonous gas over Fort Knox with his army of beautiful circus pilots. So you can go ahead and criticize Mr. Goldfinger for attaining his American Dream, but I have to ask you - why do you hate success and hard work?

Yes. Bashes. Of course. Because it's "bashing" to factually state that a single person has already contributed tens of millions of dollars trying to defeat you in an attempt to solicit donations of your own. Right. And somehow that he's the son of poor immigrants is relevant as well.

I desperately wish conservatives would stop being so dishonest and stupid.... but I started wishing instead that my turds would start magically collecting in the backyard and spontaneously transform into a brand new Ferrari made of gold one day instead because it seemed like a more likely thing to have happen.

Destroying our democracy be the nefarious and underhanded tactic of being elected by a majority of voters. Is there no end to their evil?

Ugh. Another Townhall greenlight. I feel dirty for having clicjed it.

But that was not an Attack on Success. That was just pointing out that Romney is getting support from very rich people. Which is true. (It's also true for Obama).

But I *DO* think that the Obama Administrations' rhetoric has consistantly overlooked and attempted to downplay just how much American success is first generation. While I know it is roughly correct, I Need to go find independant cites for the specific claim that "86 percent of millionaires are self made and 75 percent of billionaires are self made."

Anyone have those on hand?

Adelson Obama is an example and product of the American Dream. Instead of using Adelson Obama as an example of success, an example of no matter who you are, you can make it big in America, the Obama Romney campaign is vilifying him and others like him.

So lemme get this straight: Anything a successful person (in this case a self made billionaire) does can't be criticized because to do so would be to criticize success? Is that the argument?

Its generous to call it an argument, but yes.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is opposed to gambling, including lotteries sponsored by governments. Church leaders have encouraged Church members to join with others in opposing the legalization and government sponsorship of any form of gambling.

How does this mesh with Romney's major donor being a casino magnate?

Surprisingly the Catholic Church is fine with gambling, and so is Objectivism so Ryan shouldn't have a moral dilemma here.

Awww... poor little casino magnate, having to cry into his piles of money while the Obama campaign tells the truth about him.

Tough break, buddy. I weep for you.
