The same thing that's been happening for the past 30 years?

Apparently even homeless people like to sleep with roofs over their heads. Who knew?

Gazebo is such a fun word to say. Gazebo. Also spatula. Where's my spatula? I think you left it in the gazebo.

Yup it's hardly half past August and there is already one story about that in the news. Shocking.

What's with a gazebo, period? I never see anyone sitting in those monstrosities in their yard. I can get the idea of one at the beach or park or lake, but those get used - at least by homeless people!

Could it be that gazebos are fine places to sleep, just like little houses, when you're homeless?

Maybe people should ask, "What is it with all these homeless people? Why are there so many?"

/Perhaps the answers would make them uncomfortable and we wouldn't want that.

Pretty much. There's a few along one of the local bike trails here (Orlando). When I go out for early-morning rides, each of them has someone sleeping in it. They leave when the sun rises or when the cops chase them off.

Um, other than to be funny on FARK, why was paper and/or electrons wasted to tell us about how the cops rousted a homeless guy from a public park?

Slow news day?

Not only was it a slow news day, minnesotaboy, but it apparently took them 3 1/2 weeks to gather all the hard-hitting info for this story.

Actual occurrence per TFA: July 21

I believe there was a greenlight last month for a homeless couple knocking boots in a Gazebo.

If subby's never been to Florida, the summers provide both blistering sun and monsoon-like rainstorms, so public gazebos are some of the few places the homeless can find shelter.

Well, aside from libraries (during the day, when the weather is a problem - it's nowhere near as bad at night).

And carports. There's a pretty big problem with homeless folks moving into carports of unoccupied houses - and the cops generally won't do anything about it without a direct complaint from the owner. A few even have cars, which they pull right up into the carport to sleep in. They tend to arrive after 9 PM and leave before dawn, so most people don't even notice.

It's interesting - each winter, Florida gets a lot of "new" homeless people from up north - who decide to go back north when they get a taste of the summer weather, and don't come back. There are a very few who live here year-round, but not as many as you'd think.

The article doesn't say what time of day it was; it could have been broad daylight. Also the gazebo is in a public park (pops).

There are a lot of homeless people in Orlando. Street bums and homeless families alike. I think they said 30% of kids in school were homeless. WTF ?

Zork II came out in 1981. The original Whitechurch gazebo story is from the 1970s. I'm not sure that the gazebo it Zork II is a reference to the Whitechurch story, but it wouldn't surprise me.

You may have topped me. When you get to the 1970s, it's a little before my time. But, but... I was 9 when I was playing Zork II. I had no idea what a gazebo was. I had to ask my dad. Ever since playing, ANYtime I even THINK 'gazebo', I think Zork/RPG...

No no no. A gazebo is an African animal, a kind of antelope. It looks kind of like a big goat. except they run away when you troll them.
