I'm sure it won't last if we keep electing teabaggers.

Well, he's a politician so I'm going to go with "getting elected." Seriously though, while his issues page is good, it is a little sparse.

If there's a spiffy tag and a spliffy tag, there should also be a stiffy tag.

Spiffy tag trumps the Florida tag for once

Only because there isn't a Fabulous tag.

And why is his sexual preference of any consequence to anyone? It's a non issue and no ones business but his.

That's a nice sentiment, but until everyone else agrees, it will remain an issue.

There's plenty of gay politicians - yes, "out" ones - in Florida. There just haven't been many trying for state offices.

Most of our gay political types are "local issues" people anyway. They don't tend to run on "I'm gay, so vote for me," but more often start out as "I'm running on this local issue, and by the way - I'm gay." It doesn't seem to have much impact on electability, either way.

I thought Florida already had a gay lieutenant governor...

Did you forget what country we're talking about here? One of our two political parties does everything in their power to restrict the rights of homosexuals, and the other is slightly within reason, but has to be kicked and punched repeatedly to get them there.

A candidate's sexual orientation is as political in America as their views on defense or fiscal issues. Sad but true.

Today in Fark gay indoctrination.

Spiffy, ok.

For Democrats and bible thumpers. Everyone else doesn't care.

It's going away as more people don't care every day, and they resent having it shoved in their face. Go live your life and stop trying to make everyone applaud you.

When you receive death threats, are abandoned by your family, told you're evil by 99% of religious institutions in the United States (who, by the by, have massive clout and nigh-unquestioned authority with the general population), and one of the two major political parties of the country is especially interested in curtailing your rights and liberties based entirely on the sex of the consenting adults you prefer to do it with, come back and say that with a straight face. Until then, minorities of all stripes should be allowed to celebrate their victories, small and large, in the path towards equality.

We had a extra-fabulous gay governor. It was called the worst-kept secret in Florida.

Well, teabaggers/religious nuts won't vote for gay for anything ever. So ask THEM why it matters. Because it does, to them.

Why is this still an issue? Well, let me tell a story about what happened when someone posted in my county's Young Republican facebook group encouraging people to have their kids participate in Focus on the Family's "Day of Dialogue" (aka, send your kids to school to tell the gay kids they're going to hell). I was a member of said facebook group because I'm friends with the past president of the YRs and he added me, though that's not terribly relevant. Anyway, I posted something saying that people shouldn't be sending their kids to school to do that because it's basically teaching your kids to bully. it ended up degenerating to the GOP State Committeeman for my county essentially google-stalking me, digging through tons of pages of results to find "proof" that I'm a radical gay rights activist all because I objected to bullying gay kids. That's the kind of political environment that you find in much of the state, and quite frankly the creepy google-stalking felt like an attempt to silence me from speaking up. Until the GOP manages to grow up, it most definitely is an a big deal that there are out elected officials.
