I read the headline as "pissing on the Brits" and thought that I might have to rethink my vote for Obama for a second

I thought it was because Romney was worried the tea party wouldn't support him without one of their own on board.

I think he picked Ryan because quantum Romney has both "daddy" AND "sonny" issues.

Nice that he dispatched his biological son to deliver the bad news to Portman and Pawlenty that they didn't get picked. I wonder if Ann will send all the others some tasteful gift baskets.

Are you making an historical pun by any chance?

Prior to the official start of the Revolution, the HMS Romney seized John Hancock's ship Liberty. Which later led to the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party.

I was quite stunned when I saw that recently in the book I've been reading. I have to say I'm a little surprised more people haven't been playing with a "Romney Seizes Liberty" meme. John Freaking Hancock's ship, to boot!

Socialized medicine may improve mortality, but those patients often suffer from hypoliberty, which hampers their quality of life.

Of course socialized health care hampers freedom and liberty. I mean, c'mon, who's thinking of all the people who WANT to be denied healthcare? Where's their freedom and liberty to die horrible painful deaths?

I've noticed the Brits have the "no one can pick on my little brother but me" attitude towards the NHS. They bash it constantly, but get really mad when we do.

My dad fell over the other day.

Dislocated his finger and fractured his wrist. We went to the local Accident and Emergency, were seen in about 3 or 4 minutes (and greeted with lovely hot lattes), he had a series of about 6 X-rays to confirm the dislocation was properly fixed, got a cast for the wrist, and a follow-up appointment yesterday to make sure everything is going as it should. And I watched the canoe sprint coverage in the waiting room.

So basically as close to a perfect service as you could wish for. And no bill at the end, nor any sense you were being hurried out.

Evil, this NHS. Evil.

/if enough Republicans came to the UK, had an accident, then actually experienced the NHS, you'd have an NHS.

Yea but where's the freedom for someone to pay 10k for the privilege of using emergency care and them expensive new fangled picture machines? WHY WON'T YOU THINK OF THESE PEOPLE'S FREEDOMS?!

Well obviously it has minor flaws that people become aware of and want fixed. Like any massive system.

It's irritating when people who have clearly no idea or experience of it attack it, especially when their own system is considered 3rd World by most of the West.

Another NHS supporter here.

Last year, my brother had life threatening blood clot, which caused havoc with his internal organs; heart, lungs, liver and pancreas. A day's stay on ICU, a couple more on HDU and then three weeks on a regular ward.

At the moment he's still on blood thinning tablets and insulin. As both of these are probably life long requirements, he gets them for free.

Three and a half weeks of hospital stay, including countless tests, and lifelong medication: I'd hate to have seen the bill for this if he had to pay for it.

Yeah, about that:
In what appears like a clear endorsement of a presidential candidate, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Monday night that Barack Obama has been the most supportive president on matters of Israeli security throughout the two countries' diplomatic relations.

In an interview aired late Monday night on CNN, Barak told political anchor Wolf Blitzer that the Obama administration's support of Israeli defense and intelligence establishments was far greater than under any other administration he remembered working with since and including President Jimmy Carter.

What's Ryan's plan for Americans without health care coverage who become ill? As far as I can tell, it's a painful and ugly death.
