Obviously. It's very appropriate here too!

They don't care very much during election years, either

That's because you're willfully obtuse.

Actually, the Obama administration has done plenty for the "non-rich" while in office, but thanks for letting us know what a "both sides are bad/the same" idiot you are, subby. It's a Fark Tradition.™

Romney/Ryan being the exception. Their hostility to the non-rich carries over into the election year. In fact, hostility to the non-rich is the unifying idea of all their proposals.

Obama has been actively pushing for middle class tax cuts. Republicans have actively been fighting middle class tax cuts.

Aaaand what years were Social Security/SSI,Medicare/Medicaid created again? And which party has been fighting for them for 7 decades(+)?

And even then, only if they will vote.

2012-08-14 06:03:58 PM
Well, it's kinda hard to blame them when at least half of all non-rich people don't care about non-rich people either. See: non-millionaires who vote GOP.

On a more general note, I'm sick of this "OMG TEH POLITISHUNS!!1" crap. Not to white-knight for America's ruling class, but we wouldn't have the political problems we love to complain about were the electorate able to tell its ass from a hole in the ground.

Republicans never have to pretend to care about the non-rich now they have mastered the technique of using "scary black/hispanic/gay people" to accumulate votes from gullible rubes without having to give out any of their polity's money to buy enough votes - economically they can just concentrate on ensuring the as much wealth as possible is concentrated into the fewest hands.

PlasticMoby: Aaaand what years were Social Security/SSI,Medicare/Medicaid created again? And which party has been fighting for them for 7 decades(+)?

Um, both of them, really. Though it's a little dodgy since the ideological continuity of either party over the course of half a century is dubious at best. But neither party as a whole has really been opposed to entitlement programs as such until very recently, and there have been individual "fark the poor" politicians from both sides of the aisle.

Though, that said, what's more relevant here is that the Democrats currently hold pretty much the monopoly on competent execution of the social safety net programs.

That would be the same party that fought against the Civil Rights Act and for German-style eugenics laws.

How long ago was that? Before or after the invention of color television? The Democrats that fought against civil rights are all dead. The Republicans that fight against civil rights are alive, and many of them were serious contenders in the GOP primaries.

Republicans and conservatives (TM) in general repeatedly try and create the false equivalence that because both sides are bad, they're both equally bad (or not bad at all), and the rest of us make fun of them for this retarded position.

It's so simple even idiots can understand it, and no one believes that after so long here you don't already understand it.

Actually, Obama has done much of what he said he would do, and there are several scorecards available online in case anyone's really that interested in trainspotting this administration's accomplishments.
