Girion47: rudemix: Glenford: Kommunaut: Parthenogenetic: I just want to say that I hate those motherfeckers who turtle in Australia.

Except when I'm fortunate enough to grab Western Australia and/or New Guinea first.

Meh, I go for the North and South America combo (7 reinforcements/turn, only 3 entrances). Beats the easy Australia thing every time.

/never seen anyone who just turtled Australia actually win
//eventually, they get overwhelmed by the guy with 3 full continents

I have, several times. You just can't wait too long or else you're screwed.

A great website for email turn based games is here Games By Email. Risk, Axis and Allies, Diplomacy, History of the World, Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, etc, etc.

If anyone is interested in a game of Axis and Allies or History of the World I'm up for it. Oh, and it's free.

I'll play, but I feel a 2 person A&A isn't that fun.

It's very much not fun. Good practice but not fun. I play with a solid group of players (solid as in make their turns regularly and don't do incredibly silly things) who play well. But I'm always looking to push the site because I've played free for over 6 years and like sharing it out, both for the benefit of the site owner (no idea who s/he is) and people who love the old games but distance, time, etc makes it hard to play with friends. If you want to start a game or have a couple friends who want to play and you need an extra body I use ins3ctmusic[nospam-﹫-backwards]oohay*com for a game addy there.

IIRC the Soviets didn't declare war against Japan until 1945. Then backed way the fark off.

/Ka-boom went the A-Bomb!

//and yeah, that settled everything nicely

After the collapse of the Soviet Union the Japanese tried to buy these islands back from the Russians, who needed the money. The Russians wouldn't sell. I thought this was odd, but then learned there was a good financial reason - the islands cover the entrance to the Sea of Okhotsk. Presently there is no way into that sea without crossing Russian territorial waters, which means the Russians are the only ones who get to fish there and so on. If the Kurils were returned to Japan you can bet Japanese trawlers would be in there all the time.

So in other words, the Russians are not going to return the Kurils.

Satanic_Hamster: Wow.

I wasn't aware that the Russian navy even HAD two vessels capable of taking to the seas.

Coincidentally, one is a tugboat.

BronyMedic: Sorry, I have to side with Japan on this one.

The JNSDF is one of the most modern navies in the World Today, Sans the United States. I'm sure they could do horrible things to two cold war Russian Ships.

From what I've seen in Japanese movies, they would cover the Russian fleet with Semen.

Remember the hot mike conversation between Putin and obama? The one where obama promised to give Putin some of Americas secrets. WOW! What a loser of a president.

Launch Code, from what I know, every president since Carter has given away secrets to either the Russians and/or Chinese. Kuril Islands? World War Three has to start SOMEWHERE.

Ryker's Peninsula: From what I've seen in Japanese movies, they would cover the Russian fleet with Semen.

Yeah, but you'll never see, because they'll blur out the gun ports.

Here we go again. Many conditions the same as pre WWII. Unemployment, money value tanked, class, race, and religious conflicts in Europe. Russia with a can of gas and Japan with the matches.

kbronsito: NallTWD: Eh, I find it hard to side with Japan on these territorial disputes.

This.

Had they been a winning party of WWII or even a party that managed a negotiated peace rather than an unconditional surrender, they would have gained territories. They lost and unconditionally surrendered... territory is usually lost when that happens.

I'm sure this has already been covered but...

The West enjoys screwing Japan over when it comes to territory after Victories. First example would be The Russo-Japanese War which Japan essentially won after annihilating Russia's fleet. However during the peace treaty Japan lost territory to the Russians (Sakhalin) even though they were by all counts defeating the Russians. (The peace treaty was negotiated by Teddy Roosevelt)

And then WWI Japan's Navy battled the Germans in the South Pacific as well as Africa being a fairly pivotal role. And yet at Versailles Japan got some token territory and racial equality was left off of the Treaty.

So they really had no reason to trust the West when it came to war, at the time.
