But why do real-world facts have such a liberal bias....it's a liberal conspiracy to use empirical data against good-sounding talking points!

Ryan's plan doesn't have any savings. It just cuts benefits.

I'd like to fact-check Soledad O'Brien's analysis and offer up my own humble opinion.

It's starting to look like "Obama cut $700kajillion from Medicare" is the official FARK position as well as the official GOP position.

2012-08-14 02:06:29 PM
So Sununu just flatly lied and got angry when his mendacity was pointed out?

Is anyone really surprised? Republicans have gotten so used to a timid, compliant media that they literally go a bit insane when they're challenged.

If I have $100 taken out of my checking account and put into an interest-bearing savings account, have I "cut" my funds? I'm really interested in your answer.

THIS!

I don't know who Soledad is, but I'm swooning. THAT is what I want to see. I *want* these people (both Dems and Repubs) have their feet held to the fire by the media.

Someone give me the applause.gif image, please. I applaud CNN and Soledad for this. Keep doing this and you may see some of us return to watching TV.

So is this the GOP argument? If Obama actually successfully reduces the cost of healthcare, and therefore we don't have to pay as much in Medicare, that's considered "cutting benefits"?

Is this what I am to understand?

What you don't understand is whose "benefits" the GOP is fighting for.

It's the people getting paid, not the people getting treatment.

The funniest part is that the only thing their VP candidate is known for is a budget plan that does exactly what Sununu was biatching about.

2012-08-14 03:49:51 PM
This is actually something I saw Rush and other "conservative" hosts start talking about months ago. In order to keep the senior vote, they're trying to create a clash of young vs old.

Essentially it comes down to: You old people deserve medicare for all the hard work you put in during life, however anyone younger than 55 (or whatever) is a lazy slacker and they don't deserve medicare. They need to provide for their own healthcare when they get older, because they didn't earn Medicare the way you did. If we allow them to have medicare, they'll get even lazier, we need to take it away to force them to work harder.

Heck, a month or so ago, Rush went on some rant claiming "young people" were stealing Medicare and Social Security from seniors.

2012-08-14 03:56:21 PM
Now I understand. I'm over 55 so I've earned Medicare and Social Security and my 54 year old sister, the lazy bum, can suck it! Perfect.

Sununu was a butthurt crybaby when he would take over for Bill Kristol or Robert Novak on Crossfire in the early 90s. I didn't expect that to change much.

The comments are wholly unsurprising, and very disappointing. The GOP is emulating Best Korea in a lot of ways, regarding brainwashing of large swaths of the population. They have lied so long and so hard, and the media has been so complicit, that an enormous percentage of the population legitimately believe spin like this.

Props to Soledad for sticking to the truth, and holding somoene's feet to the fire. I am Jack's lack of surprise regarding the accusations of liberal conspiracy regarding her conduct, though.

That's truly mind-boggling part about the whole "liberal media conspiracy" thing. A "liberal conspirator" isn't someone who lies to make liberals look good; it's someone who doesn't accept conservative assertions at face value. It's completely absurd.
