Yes, and decapitation cures headaches.

Things can be both legitimate and stupid.

2012-08-14 09:35:22 AM
So, I can sit through a six minute video without a transcript, or I can just assume that the headline misleadingly implies that he endorsed Ryan's plan to slash $700M from Medicare, when, in reality, he did not.

2012-08-14 09:41:41 AM
Technically, isn't something only legitimate if supported by current law. Ryan's proposal conflicts with current healthcare legislation so by definition it is illegitimate. It only becomes legitimate if signed into law.

As far as pick out from the Google Closed Captions, he considers the budget that the budget committee pushed out to be a serious one, but one that he has fundamental disagreements with, like the voucher program.

No, it's a proposal. Now, technically, my proposal to enact single payer health care and pay for it by liquidating the assets of health care CEOs and then turning their actual bodies into soap is a proposal.

Yup. It's a "legitimate proposal" in comparison to nonsense like this:

Ryan's proposal has numbers and everything! You can actually talk about specifics. Like how it's designed to murder the elderly.

2012-08-14 09:45:20 AM
I'm totally ignorant of his actual proposal, but I've heard that it will treat people differently depending on whether they're under/over 55 years of age.

Wouldn't it suck to be 54? Shouldn't there be some sort of gradation instead of a cliff?

what_now: my proposal

The start of a new movement. Kind of like Alice's Restaurant.

GOP must be worried if these are the depths to which they are willing to stoop.

That'd be unconstitutional! Those corporations are limited-liability! The BEST you could do it turn the actual corporation into soap.

2012-08-14 09:46:37 AM
I've also heard it described as "modest".

2012-08-14 09:46:59 AM
Looks like the GOP got their wish... we're talking about issues now.

Of course, it's issues that'll cause the elderly from fleeing the GOP sinking ship in droves... but hey... ISSUES!

Yes. So basically, if you're 65, you're ok....for now. But most oldsters don't believe that they'll be grandfathered into this plan. My dad (70) is convinced that once they START messing with Social Security and Medicare, they'll just slowly cut it for everyone, and he's probably not wrong.

Now that's a proposal. Not only would I back it, I would seriously look into a bit of extra revenue by running the second part of the plan on commercial television.

Well, there are any number of people who made an awful lot of money by denying coverage to people based on actuarial tables (you know, death panels). I bet we could make a law calling that murder, and I bet you could find the parents of some small children who couldn't get a liver transplant or what not who would be willing to support this.

Much in the same way a nuclear war is winnable.

A legitimate proposal? Sure. Fine.

In the same way that 'Payday loans' businesses are legitimate even though they fark over their customers in a most horrible fashion.

That's it. I'm voting for McCain.

Why are all the politics stories about Americal politics? Does FARK not realise that American politics is eye-wateringly, knee-tremblingly, mind-umbingly boring?

A live body and a dead body contain the same number of particles. Structurally, there's no discernible difference. Life and death are unquantifiable abstracts. Why should I be concerned?

Nope. Recall, Romney believes one chooses their family in the pre-life. One also chooses their date of birth. If someone was born a day late to a family a dollar short, that's their own fault for picking that family. Same is true for the opposite.

And that, ladies and germs, is how you "spin" a story.

Class dismissed.

I wasn't aware anybody was suggesting he wasn't earnestly proposing the things he's proposing. I absolutely believe he's malicious enough to seriously propose the destruction of elderly healthcare and the income safety net so that he can give the savings to his rich friends.

I am under no delusions here. I think Paul Ryan is absolutely spiteful enough to take away your grandmother's arthritis medicine so Mitt Romney can buy a boat.

Even if he isn't wrong, gutting a system people have paid into their whole lives is a dick move.

Indeed. Although I wonder if giving control of Medicare to each individual state, then combining the programs with each state's Medicaid program, would help reduce the bureaucracy while NOT impacting beneficiaries...

He was explaining that the GOP legitimately made him read the budget proposal as if they were serious. Not that he himself thought it was anything but a political stunt.

A dick move, sure. But one that is entirely legal.

You have no legal right to any benefit from the money you pay into SS or Medicare. You are at the mercy of whoever is in power making policy.

Or, just put every man, woman and child on medicare and adjust the funding levels and administrative staffing for the influx of new people.

What you gotta do is hang a loop of piano wire from the ceiling, put your head through it and glue your hands to your head. Then when you hang yourself, your head will come off and be stuck to your hands. It'll look like you got super pissed and ripped your own head off!
